Book Policy Studies Review Annual

Download or read book Policy Studies Review Annual written by Ray C. Rist and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1986-08-01 with total page 812 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of the Policy Studies Review Annual series, Volume Eight continues to offer the best of recent writing and analysis in a number of policy relevant area. Indeed, reflecting the shifting nature of policy debates and public attention, Volume Eight has introduced seven entirely new substantive areas, including such sensitive issues as the viability of the "safety net," information policy, work and labor policy, immigration policy, and environmental policy. The volume is also characterized by explicit attention to two critical aspects of the policy analysis craft--the strengths and weaknesses of various methodological approaches and the role noneconomic factors should play in economic policy analysis. Drawing from such public sector administrators as William Ruckelshaus and Eleanor Chelimsky, academic policy analysts such as Martin Feldstein and Irving Louis horowitz, and two congressional support agencies (CBO and GAO), the volume provides the most timely and relevant assessments of current policy issues. It also provides the reader with a framework within which to approach substantie areas as widely disparate as national security and health care. The volume is an indispensible tool for those who seek to sort through the confusions and contradictions of present policy statements in order to gain a cogent view of how these and other issues are framed and what viable policy options are available. , Contents (partial): METHODS FOR POLICY ANALYSIS--S. Rosen, S. Tolchin, D. McCaffrey, J. Hall, P. Dommel, S. Kelman; NONECONOMIC FACTORS IN ECONOMIC POLICY MAKING--A. Etzioni, A. Bhattacharya, J. Fel-dman, M. Book Research Anthology on Business Continuity and Navigating Times of Crisis

This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 1907 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the COVID-19 pandemic caused a halt in global society, many business leaders found themselves unprepared for the unprecedented change that swept across industry. Whether the need to shift to remote work or the inability to safely conduct business during a global pandemic, many businesses struggled in the transition to the “new normal.” In the wake of the pandemic, these struggles have created opportunities to study how businesses navigate these times of crisis. The Research Anthology on Business Continuity and Navigating Times of Crisis discusses the strategies, cases, and research surrounding business continuity throughout crises such as pandemics. This book analyzes business operations and the state of the economy during times of crisis and the leadership involved in recovery. Covering topics such as crisis management, entrepreneurship, and business sustainability, this four-volume comprehensive major reference work is a valuable resource for managers, CEOs, business leaders, entrepreneurs, professors and students of higher education, researchers, and academicians.

Book Who Pays for Financial Crises Price and Quantity Rationing of Different Borrowers by Domestic and Foreign Banks

Download or read book Who Pays for Financial Crises Price and Quantity Rationing of Different Borrowers by Domestic and Foreign Banks written by Allen N. Berger and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial crises result in price and quantity rationing of otherwise creditworthy business borrowers, but little is known about the relative severity of these two types of rationing, which borrowers are rationed most, and the roles of foreign and domestic banks. Using a dataset from 50 countries containing over 18,000 business loans with information on the lender, the borrower, and contract terms, we find that publicly-listed borrowers are rationed more by prices or interest rates, whereas privately-held borrowers are rationed more by the number of loans. Also, the global financial crisis appears to have changed how banks price borrower risk. Further, there are important differences between foreign and domestic banks and between U.S. and non-U.S. loans.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Symposium on Aneuploidy: Etiology and Mechanisms" was held at the Carnegie Institution of Washington Auditorium from March 25-29. 1985. This Symposium developed as a consequence of the concern of the Environmen tal Protection Agency with the support of the National Institute of Envi ronmental Health Sciences about human exposure to environmental agents that cause aneuploidy. The program was chosen to explore what is currently known about the underlying causes, the origins, and the extent of the prob lem of human aneuploidy, and whether exposure to environmental agents is assodated with an increased incidence of aneuploidy in humans. Basic research findings in the area of mitosis and meiosis were presented and related to possible mechanisms of how aneuploidy may be produced spontane ously and chemically. A survey of data regarding the chemical induction of aneuploidy in experimental organisms was presented. Outstanding scientists from different fields were invited to cover a broad perspective of aneu ploidy from the molecular aspects to the human situation. We hope that the publication of the proceedings will share the enthu siasm of the meeting and its scientific content. The topic of aneuploidy has received little attention and it is the purpose of this Volume to establish a scientific basis for assessing health risks posed by environ mental exposures to aneuploidy-inducing chemicals. Vicki L. DeJlarco Peter E. Voytek Alexander Hollaender vii ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The Editors of the proceedings of the "Symposium on Aneuploidy" wish to acknowledge the support of Dr. Elizabeth L.

Book African American Women and Poverty

Download or read book African American Women and Poverty written by Catherine M. Casserly and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-28 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, public policies designed to reduce poverty are overwhelmingly influenced by human capital theory, since education is viewed as the powerful mechanism by which productivity will increase, incomes will be raised, and economic opportunity will be provided. Although African-American women followed the prescription set forth by human capital theory and increased their educational attainment by over 2 years from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, their incidence of poverty remained fairly stable. First published in 1998, this study examines why educational investments by that population most susceptible to being poor, African- American females, have not reduced poverty as expected.

Book How Costly Are Debt Crises

Download or read book How Costly Are Debt Crises written by Davide Furceri and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this paper is to assess the short- and medium-term impact of debt crises on GDP. Using an unbalanced panel of 154 countries from 1970 to 2008, the paper shows that debt crises produce significant and long-lasting output losses, reducing output by about 10 percent after eight years. The results also suggest that debt crises tend to be more detrimental than banking and currency crises. The significance of the results is robust to different specifications, identification and endogeneity checks, and datasets.
