Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling and evocative novel with an unsettling question at its heart, The Golden Hour from acclaimed author T. Greenwood explores the power of art to connect, to heal, and to reveal... On a spring afternoon long ago, thirteen-year-old Wyn Davies took a shortcut through the woods in her New Hampshire hometown and became a cautionary tale. Now, twenty years later, she lives in New York, on the opposite side of a duplex from her ex, with their four-year-old daughter shuttling between them. Wyn makes her living painting commissioned canvases of birch trees to match her clients’ furnishings. But the nagging sense that she has sold her artistic soul is soon eclipsed by a greater fear. Robby Rousseau, who has spent the past two decades in prison for a terrible crime against her, may be released based on new DNA evidence—unless Wyn breaks her silence about that afternoon. To clear her head, refocus her painting, and escape an even more present threat, Wyn agrees to be temporary caretaker for a friend’s new property on a remote Maine island. The house has been empty for years, and in the basement Wyn discovers a box of film canisters labeled “Epitaphs and Prophecies.” Like time capsules, the photographs help her piece together the life of the house’s former owner, an artistic young mother, much like Wyn. But there is a mystery behind the images too, and unraveling it will force Wyn to finally confront what happened in those woods—and perhaps escape them at last.

Book When Texas Prison Scams Religion

Download or read book When Texas Prison Scams Religion written by Michael G. Maness and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Texas Prison Scams Religion exposes corruption in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, especially in the abuse of religion. In many ways, this book is a literature review of 1,800-plus works that defends freedom of conscience in prison while exposing the unconstitutionality of the seminary program that “buys faith with favor” from prisoners. The state veritably ordains the prisoner a “Field Minister” that represents the offices of the Governor, TDCJ Director, and wardens throughout the prison. Therein, TDCJ lies about neutrality in a program all about Christian missions and lies again in falsely certifying elementary Bible students as counselors. Why is the director sponsoring psychopaths counseling psychopaths? In fact, TDCJ pays $314 million a year to UTMB for psychiatric care and receives not a single report of the care given, and worse, for UTMB generates no reports itself. The underbelly TDCJ’s executive culture of cover up is exposed. TDCJ has hired the lowest qualified of the applicant pool many times in the last 25 years and regularly destroys statistics on violence. TDCJ Dir. Collier led the prison to model Louisiana Warden Burl Cain, the most scandal-ridden in penal history according to a host of published news stories for 20 years. Therein, Collier led TDCJ to favor the smallest segment of religious society within Evangelical Dominionism. Texas has no business endorsing the truth of any religion over another. We close with a proposal that utilizes the 400,000,000 hours of officer contact over ten years as a definitive influence in contrast to a commissioner that spends less than 10 minutes on each decision. Maness has been lobbying Austin for 15 years to definitively access staff for his “100,000 Mothers’ 1% Certainty Parole Texas Constitutional Amendment,” which would revolutionize prison culture and save Texans millions of the dollars.

Book Practicality of Grace in Protestant Theology

Download or read book Practicality of Grace in Protestant Theology written by Michael G. Maness and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-20 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 15 articles were chosen by Testamentum Imperium Founder Kevaughn Mattis with Michael G. Maness from among 163 articles published in the 2011 online journal. Each author was chosen for their expertise and decades of experience in the practice of pastoral care in their unique fields. How the practicality of grace applies in suicide, sex addiction, sexual assault, shame, hospital or prison chaplaincy, even in eschatology and forgiveness is covered by these veterans in the field. The articles touch a broad scope of affliction from physical to moral dilemmas. And part of the choice was not to find from the 163 those who see eye-to-eye. We desired to share the unique expertise. Each author is a weathered captain who has ferried souls across tumultuous waves of grief, confusion, self-control, and internal torment to a port of healing and peaceful victory. Book Making Poems

Download or read book Making Poems written by Todd F. Davis and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2010-02-02 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This diverse collection of poems and companion essays by forty nationally and internationally known poets allows readers to experience the creative process through the eyes and voice of each poet. No matter how often we are told that revision is an essential component of poetic composition, it can be difficult to resist the temptation to think of the poem as having sprung spontaneously, Athena-like, from the writer's head. By exposing readers to the finished product as well as the poet's own account of the poem's creation, Making Poems offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the poetic process that will fascinate both beginning and established writers. The book also affords poetry instructors an opportunity to demonstrate to their students the ways in which poems can originate from seemingly mundane and unlikely sources.

Book The Hour of Sunlight

Download or read book The Hour of Sunlight written by Sami al Jundi and published by Bold Type Books. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a teenager in Palestine, Sami al Jundi had one ambition: overthrowing Israeli occupation. With two friends, he began to build a bomb to use against the police. But when it exploded prematurely, killing one of his friends, al Jundi was caught and sentenced to ten years in prison. It was in an Israeli jail that his unlikely transformation began. Al Jundi was welcomed into a highly organized, democratic community of political prisoners who required that members of their cell read, engage in political discourse on topics ranging from global revolutions to the precepts of nonviolent protest and revolution. Al Jundi left prison still determined to fight for his people's rights -- but with a very different notion of how to undertake that struggle. He cofounded the Middle East program of Seeds of Peace Center for Coexistence, which brings together Palestinian and Israeli youth. Marked by honesty and compassion for Palestinians and Israelis alike, The Hour of Sunlight illuminates the Palestinian experience through the story of one man's struggle for peace.
