Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Typology is an attempt to rigorously outline all existing and possible typological systems. Even though it focuses only on one particular system, namely, the Jungian typology, it has established the foundation and the methodology that underlies all systematic thought with regard to the subject. This book starts with an outline of the axioms of typology, upon which clear and thorough definitions of functions, attitudes as well as their relations with each other has been established. The chief purpose of this volume is to clearly outline the essence of typology and provide a method for further acquisition of insight with regard to this subject. Therefore, a distinction is drawn between pure and applied typology, the type itself and personalities that inhere within the type, as well as light is shed on the proper association of those concepts. The primary purpose of the outline of such fundamental notions to the subject is to allow for the reader to be clearly aware of what we already know of Jungian typology and the core of all typological systems as well as how we can acquire further reliable knowledge. Because the method with regard to both procedures is clear and rigorous, it is likely to be reliable. This volume includes the following, two essays exploring and a thorough analysis of each type. The two essays are concerned with the aforementioned issues as well as include a critique of well known works on typology. The methodology that has been established in those essays has been utilized in the body of this work, namely, the 16 profiles where our current knowledge and possible knowledge with regard to each type has been subjected to the exactest and most thorough scrutiny possible.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Typology of Scripture, or the Doctrine of Types Investigated in Its Principles, and Applied to the Explanation of the Earlier Revelations of God, Considered as Preparatory Exhibitions of the Leading Truths of the Gospel: Two Volumes in One IN now presenting the following pages to the Public, the Author has nothing to add to what is stated in the Introduction, regarding their leading object, or the Opening which at present exists for a work of this nature. It is intended to supply, what all, who have turned their attention seriously to the subject, must have felt to be a desideratum - to rescue the typology of Scripture, if possible, from the arbitrariness and uncertainty which have hitherto enveloped it, and to derive from it somewhat of real and substantial service toward the interpretation of the mind and pur poses of God. How far he has succeeded in accomplishing this end, it is of course for others, not for himself, to decide. Book excerpt: How to Study the Old Testament for Signs of Christ Believers read Scripture to follow Christ and deepen their relationship with him. But since a majority of the Bible was written before Jesus's life and death on the cross, many people rely on the Old Testament for historical context and moral guidance alone. However, when studied in detail, we see how even the Old Testament reveals Christ as the center of God's plan for redemption. Biblical Typology examines how the Old Testament foreshadows Christ, the church, and the consummation through types—or symbols—pointing toward fulfillment. Well-known for his academic yet accessible writing, Vern S. Poythress not only provides examples of types and analogies found in God's word but also teaches readers a practical framework and diagram for effectively examining them throughout Scripture. Readers will learn how to identify and interpret biblical typology for themselves as they deepen their understanding of the Bible and the wisdom of God. Great for Bible Teachers: Teaches pastors, Bible study leaders, and thoughtful lay people how to effectively study biblical typology in the Old Testament Practical How-To: Not only examines Scripture for examples of Christ in the Old Testament but teaches how readers can find types for themselves Uses Helpful Tools: Introduces a practical framework and diagram to effectively interpret typology within the Old Testament Academic yet Accessible: Written by scholar, professor, and author Vern S. Poythress

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on language universals and research on linguistic typology are not antagonistic, but rather complementary approaches to the same fundamental problem: the relationship between the amazing diversity of languages and the profound unity of language. Only if the true extent of typological divergence is recognized can universal laws be formulated. In recent years it has become more and more evident that a broad range of languages of radically different types must be carefully analyzed before general theories are possible. Typological comparison of this kind is now at the centre of linguistic research. The series empirical approaches to language typology presents a platform for contributions of all kinds to this rapidly developing field. The distinctive feature of the series is its markedly empirical orientation. All conclusions to be reached are the result of a deepened study of empirical data. General problems are focused on from the perspective of individual languages, language families, language groups, or language samples. Special emphasis is given to the analysis of phenomena from little known languages, which shed new light on long-standing problems in general linguistics. The series is open to contributions from different theoretical persuasions. It thus reflects the methodological pluralism that characterizes the present situation. Care is taken that all volumes be accessible to every linguist and, moreover, to every reader specializing in some domain related to human language. A deeper understanding of human language in general, based on a detailed analysis of typological diversity among individual languages, is fundamental for many sciences, not only for linguists. Therefore, this series has proven to be indispensable in every research library, be it public or private, which has a specialization in language and the language sciences. Book Language Typology

Download or read book Language Typology written by Alice Caffarel and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as a systemic functional contribution to language typology both for those who would like to understand and describe particular languages against the background of generalizations about a wide range of languages and also for those who would like to develop typological accounts that are based on and embody descriptions of the systems of particular languages (rather than isolated constructions). The book is a unique contribution in at least two respects. On the one hand, it is the first book based on systemic functional theory that is specifically concerned with language typology. On the other hand, the book combines the particular with the general in the description of languages: it presents comparable sketches of particular languages while at the same time identifying generalizations based on the languages described here as well as on other languages. The volume explores eight languages, covering seven language families: French, German, Pitjantjatjara, Tagalog, Telugu, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese.
