Book Encyclopedia of Sacred Theology

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Sacred Theology written by ABRAHAM KUYPER (JR.) and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encyclopedia of Sacred Theology: Its Principles is the second in a three-volume series. Written by Abraham Kuyper and translated into English by Reverend J. Hendrick Devries, it is a massive book about the history of theology and its place amongst the sciences. This volume does not contain the typical contents of an encyclopedia. Instead of a series of short entries on a variety of topics, Kuyper's book reads much more like a history text. The book is divided into three parts, each of which consists of multiple chapters. The first part is a discussion of the very name of the Theological Encyclopedia, and whether this is an appropriate naming convention to follow. The second part examines the organism of science, and theology's place within the accepted scientific disciplines. The third and final part is a detailed discussion of theology itself, with chapters on the conception, methods and history of the discipline, and more. The book concludes with a brief index of the topics discussed and the proper names referred to. Kuyper's work is extensive and challenging. The book presents an extremely detailed and nuanced discussion of the nature of theology. At more than 700 pages, it is no short work, particularly when one considers that it is only one volume in a three-volume set. Kuyper's Encyclopedia of Sacred Theology: Its Principles is an advanced work about the study of theology. It is not a 'light' read, but one that contains an enormous amount of information. For those serious about the study of theology, Kuyper's work cannot be missed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Principles of Sacred Liturgy written by Christopher Carstens and published by LiturgyTrainingPublications. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus’ saving Paschal work continues today in the liturgy and sacraments. They have the power to sanctify and beatify those who engage the liturgy with proper minds and hearts. In this comprehensive and accessible book, Christopher Carstens opens up the ritual elements mystagogically: that is, he leads participants from what they can sense—a calendar day, a musical instrument, and word—to what is otherwise undetectable: Jesus Christ. He examines the core meaning of each liturgical element in creation, in the culture, in the Old Testament, in Christ, and in heaven. This book is an excellent resource for pastors, seminarians, permanent deacons and deacon candidates, lay ministers, and parish liturgy coordinators.

Book General Principles of Sacramental Theology

Download or read book General Principles of Sacramental Theology written by Roger W. Nutt and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Principles of Sacramental Theology addresses a current lacuna in English language theological literature. Bernard Leeming’s highly respected book Principles of Sacramental Theology was published more than sixty years ago. Since that time, there has been a noted decrease, especially in English language sacramental theology, in treatments of the basic topics and principles – such as the nature of the sacraments of signs, sacramental grace, sacramental character, sacramental causality, sacramental intention, the necessity and number of the sacraments, sacramental matter and form, inter alia – which apply to all of the sacraments. This book will be of use in seminary, graduate, and undergraduate courses. The sacraments play an irreplaceable role in pursuing a Universal Call to Holiness that is so central to Vatican II’s teaching.

Book excerpt: 'Sacred Mysteries' opens by reflecting on the continual process of reform in the church and on the foundational principles for all liturgical action. It then moves to a discussion of each of the sacraments, with particular reference to the way they are ritualized in the assembly. A final chapter addresses practices that can cloud the experience of mystery during liturgical celebrations and thus inhibit rather than enhance the power of the rite.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hughes discusses Aquinus' work regarding the apparently irreconcilable theses of natural and revealed theology, and he argues that Aquinas fails in his attempt to reconcile absolute simplicity with the doctrines of the Trinity and the Incarnation. Hughes also offers a provocative account of divine simplicity and explores its implications for the Thomistic doctrines of the Trinity and Incarnation.

Download or read book Theologia Prima written by David W. Fagerberg and published by LiturgyTrainingPublications. This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Liturgical Theology" is often a convenient label for any theology that has loosely to do with worship or Eucharist. In this innovative book, David Fagerberg distinguishes liturgical theology from a general theology of worship. He proposes two defining attributes of liturgical theology: (1) "lex orandi": It is manifested in the Church's historical rites. (2) "theologia prima": It is theology done by the liturgical community. Theologia Prima is a thorough revision of Dr. Fagerberg's groundbreaking, What Is Liturgical Theology? A Study in Methodology (1992). It contains three new chapters as well as well as more anecdotal material derived from Dr. Fagerberg's extensive experience as a teacher and theologian.
