Book Principles of Economics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Economics Classic Reprint written by Fred M. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Economics The principal changes in this edition are the following: dividing the chapters so as to make 37 instead of 16 as in the fourth edition; elaborating two or three chapters which were little more than lecture notes; abridging two or three discus sions which belonged rather to monograph literature; dimin ished use of formal principles; increased use of concrete illus trations and a general softening of the style. Disproportio-n and inconsistency have been diminished, but not yet removed. The most significant single change is the starting of the Crit ique of the Present Order with Distribution rather than Pro duction, - a change which naturally led to a complete reorgan ization of this discussion. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Political Economy The successive French editions of the work have undergone numerous and important changes, - changes not so much in the general scope and spirit of the book as in the manner of presenting certain sections of the subject. The fundamental purpose has remained precisely the same: to give the reader a plain statement of the accepted principles of economics a summary of the unsettled problems of the science, and a clear, brief, and impartial outline of the various solutions that have been proposed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Economics, Vol. 2 The length of the period that has elapsed since the appearance of the first volume of the English version seems to call for an apology on the part of the translator, and he tenders the same herewith. In doing so, he may, perhaps, be allowed to mention two extenuating circumstances. One is, that since the year 1903, when what has come to be known as the Fiscal Question was suddenly Sprung upon the country, the amount of time and energy at his disposal, after satisfying the claims of a very busy Department of the Public Service, has been greatly restricted. The other is, that a considerable portion of the translation had to be done a second time owing to the accidental destruction of a bundle of the completed manuscript during the translator's absence abroad. Book Elementary Principles of Economics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Principles of Economics: Together With a Short Sketch of Economic History First of all, it has been deemed well to present to the stu dent in the opening chapter an idea of what the science is, and to show him, as is being done in the present chapter, what are the main topics with which the science is con cerned. In another introductory chapter there is pre sented a discussion of some of the fundamental institutions in our social order. In the second place, it is thought advisable to give in a few chapters a skeleton outline of the economic history of mankind, with more particular attention to those late developments in English and American economic history which have given rise to existing economic conditions. This part of the subject is often omitted from elementary text-books, and therefore a word of explanation is here in place. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Key to Problems in Principles of Economics It may well be added that such a thing would not fulfil the general conditions earlier brought out. That is, it would not have even generic importance. Unless things have the capacity to satisfy our wants, they manifestly have no importance at all for us. Remember, however, that, though a thing must have utility if it is to be an economic good, still hav ing utility 'will not necessarily make that thing an economic good. It must have effective utility, effective importance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Some Leading

Download or read book Some Leading written by John Elliott Cairnes and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Some Leading: Principles of Political Economy Newly Expounded Though the following work is an attempt to recast some considerable portion of Political Economy, I should be sorry it were regarded as in any sense antagonistic in its attitude toward the science built up by the labors of Adam Smith, Malthus, Ricardo, and Mill. On the contrary, my hope is that it will - should its reasonings find acceptance - strengthen, in some sensible degree, and add consistence to that fabric. As regards those assumptions respecting human character and the physical conditions of external nature which constitute the ultimate premises of economic science, the position I have taken is identical with that of the four great writers I have named; and I have endeavored also to follow the method of combined deduction and verification by comparison with facts, which was theirs, and which is, as I believe, the only fruitful, or indeed possible method in economic inquiry. Nor do the final conclusions which I have reached differ very widely on any important points from those at which they had arrived. The points on which I have ventured to join issue with them are what, in Bacon's language, may be called the axiomata media of the science - those intermediate principles by means of which the detailed results are connected with the higher causes which produce them. If I have not deceived myself, there is in this portion of Political Economy, as at present generally received, no small proportion of faulty material; and the present work may be regarded as an attempt, so far as it goes, to replace this element of weakness with matter better fitted to endure the strain of modern criticism. Book Economic Principles Classic Reprint

Download or read book Economic Principles Classic Reprint written by Alfred William Flux and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Economic Principles His volume contains hardly any references to the writers who have built up the theories of economics and given them the form which renders them useful in understanding modern economic facts. In omitting these references, my desire has been, not merely to avoid introducing controversies which can only interest students more advanced than those for whom I wrote, but also to retain a freedom of expression which I must have denied myself had I assigned each point of doctrine to those who first, or most clearly, gave it expression. I should like to express my indebtedness to many recent writers, and, if I have given an interpretation of them, here and there, some what different from their own, i trust that I have not lost the essence of their doctrines, so far as I am able to accept them. No Cambridge student of economics in recent years can fail to have gained inspiration from contact with Professor Marshall, and the writer is conscious of a very special obligation to the teacher to whom he owes his chief guidance in economic study. As with others, so especially in this case, the acknow ledgment of inspiration carries with it no attempt to place a burden of responsibility for either the form or the substance of what is written here. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Philosophy of Wealth: Economic Principles Newly Formulated The articles referred to endeavored to contribute such share as they might toward the needed recon struction of economic theories. They endeavored to broaden the conception of wealth, as the subject of the science, to find a place in the system for the better motives of human nature, to construct a new theory of value, to apply at all points the organic conception of society, and to suggest other corrections. They tried, in general, to bring the premises of the science into better accordance with facts, and to bring the general spirit of it into greater harmony with the instinctive demands of a healthy human nature.
