Book Principles of CASE Tool Integration

Download or read book Principles of CASE Tool Integration written by Alan W. Brown and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1994-09-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools typically support individual users in the automation of a set of tasks within a software development process. Such tools have helped organizations in their efforts to develop better software within budget and time constraints. However, many organizations are failing to take full advantage of CASE technology as they struggle to make coordinated use of collections of tools, often obtained at different times from different vendors. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the CASE tool integration problem, and describes practical approaches that can be used with current CASE technology to help your organization take greater advantage of integrated CASE.

Book An Investigation Into the State of the Practice of CASE Tool Integration

Download or read book An Investigation Into the State of the Practice of CASE Tool Integration written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second half of 1992, a team of the SEI CASE Environments Project conducted a study into the state of the practice with respect to the operational use of integrated Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. After many false starts, we interviewed a number of examples of large organizations with integrated CASE tools in operational use on software development projects. Compared to the state of the art described in much of the literature, what was found might be considered modest. Compared to industry norms, it was quite impressive, representing significant commitment, ingenuity, and significant attention to end user needs. This report details our observations and analyzes the current state of the practice of CASE tool integration as revealed by our study. It also speculates on reasons for the modest state of the practice.

Book The Impact Of Case Technology On Software Processes

Download or read book The Impact Of Case Technology On Software Processes written by Daniel E Cooke and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-03-07 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review volume consists of articles concerning CASE technology and research as discussed from two perspectives. For the most part, the available CASE technology is intended to automate certain phases of the software development life cycle. The book contains articles which focus on how the current technology alters the nature of software engineering efforts. Papers which delve into the knowledge a software engineer needs to possess and how the software engineer's work content has or may change are included. Cultural as well as technical considerations are discussed. The current CASE technology exists to automate phases of the software development life cycle, thus affecting software development in the short term, but we cannot ignore the CASE research efforts toward a higher generation language. Such a language should affect software development in the long term. Papers suggesting how these languages may alter the nature of software engineering in the future are presented.

Book CASE Tool Integration and Standardization

Download or read book CASE Tool Integration and Standardization written by Paul F. Zarrella and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to specific technical and methodological solutions, standards efforts are viewed as a possible path to tool integration. To date, formal efforts have done little to resolve the integration problems, but de facto standards may well become the cornerstone of future CASE tool evolution."

Book Issues and Techniques of CASE Integration with Configuration Management

Download or read book Issues and Techniques of CASE Integration with Configuration Management written by Carnegie-Mellon University. Software Engineering Institute and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations need to address how to make CASE tools from different vendors work effectively with an organization's CM policies and tools (in effect, integrate CASE with CM) within the context of the rapidly evolving state of commercial integration technology. This report describes key issues of the integration of CASE with CM from a third-party integrator's perspective, i.e., how to approach the integration of CASE and CM in such a way as to not require fundamental changes to the implementation of the tools or CM systems themselves."

Book Tool Integration and Environment Architectures

Download or read book Tool Integration and Environment Architectures written by Kurt C. Wallnau and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of environment framework technology to support CASE federation is predicated on an improved understanding of the techniques and issues of tool integration. One reflection of this improved understanding is recognition of the need to address integration mechanisms, tool semantic integration, and tool process integration as separate but related issues. This paper describes the evolution of environment architectures to support federated CASE integration and outlines the implications of this evolution on the technical issues of CASE tool integration."

Book Software Engineering Principles and Practices 2nd Edition

Download or read book Software Engineering Principles and Practices 2nd Edition written by Khurana Rohit and published by Vikas Publishing House. This book was released on 2010 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of Software Engineering-Principles and Practices has become more comprehensive with the inclusion of several topics. The book now offers a complete understanding of software engineering as an engineering discipline. Like its previous edition, it provides an in-depth coverage of fundamental principles, methods and applications of software engineering. In addition, it covers some advanced approaches including Computer-aided Software Engineering (CASE), Component-based Software Engineering (CBSE), Clean-room Software Engineering (CSE) and formal methods.Taking into account the needs of both students and practitioners, the book presents a pragmatic picture of the software engineering methods and tools. A thorough study of the software industry shows that there exists a substantial difference between classroom study and the practical industrial application. Therefore, earnest efforts have been made in this book to bridge the gap between theory and practical applications. The subject matter is well supported by examples and case studies representing the situations that one actually faces during the software development process. The book meets the requirements of students enrolled in various courses both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, such as BCA, BE, BTech, BIT, BIS, BSc, PGDCA, MCA, MIT, MIS, MSc, various DOEACC levels and so on. It will also be suitable for those software engineers who abide by scientific principles and wish to expand their knowledge. With the increasing demand of software, the software engineering discipline has become important in education and industry. This thoughtfully organized second edition of the book provides its readers a profound knowledge of software engineering concepts and principles in a simple, interesting and illustrative manner.

Detailed appendices give selection criteria and forms. The practical and readable style make it particularly suitable for those in information management and system development.

Book CASE Tool Simplification Via Task sensitive Metaphor

Download or read book CASE Tool Simplification Via Task sensitive Metaphor written by Rozita Naghshin and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) and in particular IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) tools play a major role in the software development and maintenance process. They promise to assist software engineers in achieving several complex software development tasks while increasing their productivity and performance. However, the complexity of their interfaces has made these tools not always useful and very difficult to learn and master. One of the causes for this complexity is the fact that these tools are functionality-oriented rather than human-centric. The interface of these tools has not been developed according to the real users' characteristics, and there is a gap between the user's conceptual model and CASE tool features. In this thesis, we proposed a framework to simplify the complexity of the interface. Our approach starts from the development of an effective set of developers' personae that model developers' behaviors and characteristics. Using these personae, we developed a method to reduce the complexity of CASE tools. This method combines a task-sensitive user interface metaphor with visual communication design principles. Several empirical studies were conducted while building and validating our framework.
