Book Stability of Structures

Download or read book Stability of Structures written by Chai H Yoo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-05-12 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current trend of building more streamlined structures has made stability analysis a subject of extreme importance. It is mostly a safety issue because Stability loss could result in an unimaginable catastrophe. Written by two authors with a combined 80 years of professional and academic experience, the objective of Stability of Structures: Principles and Applications is to provide engineers and architects with a firm grasp of the fundamentals and principles that are essential to performing effective stability analysts. Concise and readable, this guide presents stability analysis within the context of elementary nonlinear flexural analysis, providing a strong foundation for incorporating theory into everyday practice. The first chapter introduces the buckling of columns. It begins with the linear elastic theory and proceeds to include the effects of large deformations and inelastic behavior. In Chapter 2 various approximate methods are illustrated along with the fundamentals of energy methods. The chapter concludes by introducing several special topics, some advanced, that are useful in understanding the physical resistance mechanisms and consistent and rigorous mathematical analysis. Chapters 3 and 4 cover buckling of beam-columns. Chapter 5 presents torsion in structures in some detail, which is one of the least well understood subjects in the entire spectrum of structural mechanics. Strictly speaking, torsion itself does not belong to a topic in structural stability, but needs to be covered to some extent for a better understanding of buckling accompanied with torsional behavior. Chapters 6 and 7 consider stability of framed structures in conjunction with torsional behavior of structures. Chapters 8 to 10 consider buckling of plate elements, cylindrical shells, and general shells. Although the book is primarily devoted to analysis, rudimentary design aspects are discussed. Balanced presentation for both theory and practice Well-blended contents covering elementary to advanced topics Detailed presentation of the development

Book Extended Tables of Stiffness and Carry over Factor for Structural Members Under Axial Load

Download or read book Extended Tables of Stiffness and Carry over Factor for Structural Members Under Axial Load written by Eugene E. Lundquist and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: The tables of stiffness and carry-over factor that were presented in NACA Technical Note No. 652 have been extended to include the stiffness of a member with the far end subjected to a moment equal and opposite to the moment applied at the near end. These tables are of use in solving problems in the stability of structural members under axial load as well as in the usual applications of the Cross method of moment distribution when the effects of axial load in the members are considered. The values presented are for structural members in which the cross section and the axial load do not vary along the length of the member. The interval between successive values of the argument is small enough to make interpolation unnecessary in engineering calculations.

Book Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Structural Stability and Dynamics

Download or read book Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Structural Stability and Dynamics written by K. K. Ang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 1090 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ICSSD 2002 is the second in the series of International Conferences on Structural Stability and Dynamics, which provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences in structural stability and dynamics among academics, engineers, scientists and applied mathematicians. Held in the modern and vibrant city of Singapore, ICSSD 2002 provides a peep at the areas which experts on structural stability and dynamics will be occupied with in the near future. From the technical sessions, it is evident that well-known structural stability and dynamic theories and the computational tools have evolved to an even more advanced stage. Many delegates from diverse lands have contributed to the ICSSD 2002 proceedings, along with the participation of colleagues from the First Asian Workshop on Meshfree Methods and the International Workshop on Recent Advances in Experiments and Computations on Modeling of Heterogeneous Systems. Forming a valuable source for future reference, the proceedings contain 153 papers OCo including 3 keynote papers and 23 invited papers OCo contributed by authors from all over the world who are working in advanced multi-disciplinary areas of research in engineering. All these papers are peer-reviewed, with excellent quality, and cover the topics of structural stability, structural dynamics, computational methods, wave propagation, nonlinear analysis, failure analysis, inverse problems, non-destructive evaluation, smart materials and structures, vibration control and seismic responses. The major features of the book are summarized as follows: a total of 153 papers are included with many of them presenting fresh ideas and new areas of research; all papers have been peer-reviewed and are grouped into sections for easy reference; wide coverage of research areas is provided and yet there is good linkage with the central topic of structural stability and dynamics; the methods discussed include those that are theoretical, analytical, computational, artificial, evolutional and experimental; the applications range from civil to mechanical to geo-mechanical engineering, and even to bioengineering."

Book Stability of Structures

Download or read book Stability of Structures written by Z. P. Ba?ant and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A crucial element of structural and continuum mechanics, stability theory has limitless applications in civil, mechanical, aerospace, naval and nuclear engineering. This text of unparalleled scope presents a comprehensive exposition of the principles and applications of stability analysis. It has been proven as a text for introductory courses and various advanced courses for graduate students. It is also prized as an exhaustive reference for engineers and researchers. The authors' focus on understanding of the basic principles rather than excessive detailed solutions, and their treatment of each subject proceed from simple examples to general concepts and rigorous formulations. All the results are derived using as simple mathematics as possible. Numerous examples are given and 700 exercise problems help in attaining a firm grasp of this central aspect of solid mechanics. The book is an unabridged republication of the 1991 edition by Oxford University Press and the 2003 edition by Dover, updated with 18 pages of end notes.
