Download or read book Sayre Family written by Ralph Hall Sayre and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-07-08 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Sayre came with his family from England to Lynn, Massachusetts, in the early 1630's. Among descendants of Thomas were clergymen, surgeons, attorneys, ambassadors, and representatives of almost every profession. Francis B., cowboy, professor of law, and ambassador, was son-in-law of President Woodrow Wilson. Zelda was the wife of American novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and subject of one of his books. David A. was a silversmith, banker, and founder of Lexington's Sayre School. Many Sayre descendants were taken by wars in service to America and never had the chance to win recognition for their inherent abilities. SAYRE FAMILY, Another 100-years, in a large part, focuses on the early pioneers who came to or passed through the Ohio Valley of West Virginia and Ohio. At least three direct descendants of Thomas had made settlements in that area by the Nineteenth Century. One, David Sayre, came from New Jersey about 1778, and left many descendants who still lived in that area at the beginning of the Twenty-first Century. The bulk of this genealogy covers those, while other Sayre families whose ancestral links were not discovered are also included. The three generations of ancestors above each family block makes tracing easier.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nestled in the heart of Paris, the American Cathedral of the Holy Trinity today stands as one of the great buildings of this ancient city. The history of the church itself presents a rich portrait of lively men and women who made it their mission to serve God and the people of Paris with all their hearts. Meticulously researched, A History of the American Pro-Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, Paris, 1815-1980 delivers an impressive narrative on each period of growth and development within this church. Beginning with the American Episcopal Church's need to serve Americans living in Paris, author Cameron Allen traces the development of the foundational congregation, the building of the first church, and its organization over the years. Allen draws on diary entries, church documents, and other primary sources to reveal the personalities behind church leaders, including W. O. Lamson, who formally established the church, the pivotal role of J. P. Morgan, organist L. K. Whipp, and German Colonel Rudolph Damrath, a Lutheran minister who took over during the German Occupation of France during World War II. In addition, he discusses the church's role during major historical events and its present needs. This inspiring, well-written history provides an excellent resource for current and past church members, rectory libraries, and historians.

Britain's Royal Families provides in one volume, complete genealogical details of all members of the royal houses of England, Scotland and Great Britain - from 800AD to the present. Drawing on countless authorities, both ancient and modern, Alison Weir explores the crown and royal family tree in unprecedented depth and provides a comprehensive guide to the heritage of today's royal family – with fascinating insight and often scandalous secrets. 'Staggeringly useful... combines solid information with tantalising appetisers.’ Mail on Sunday

This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ivan Dixon's 1973 film, The Spook Who Sat by the Door, captures the intensity of social and political upheaval during a volatile period in American history. Based on Sam Greenlee's novel by the same name, the film is a searing portrayal of an American Black underclass brought to the brink of revolution. This series of critical essays situates the film in its social, political, and cinematic contexts and presents a wealth of related materials, including an extensive interview with Sam Greenlee, the original United Artists' press kit, numerous stills from the film, and the original screenplay. This fascinating examination of a revolutionary work foregrounds issues of race, class, and social inequality that continue to incite protests and drive political debate.

Download or read book Princely India Re imagined written by Aya Ikegame and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India’s Princely States covered nearly 40 per cent of the Indian subcontinent at the time of Indian independence, and they collapsed after the departure of the British. This book provides a chronological analysis of the Princely State in colonial times and its post-colonial legacies. Focusing on one of the largest and most important of these states, the Princely State of Mysore, it offers a novel interpretation and thorough investigation of the relationship of king and subject in South Asia. The book argues that the denial of political and economic power to the king, especially after 1831 when direct British control was imposed over the state administration in Mysore, was paralleled by a counter-balancing multiplication of kingly ritual, rites, and social duties. The book looks at how, at the very time when kingly authority was lacking income and powers of patronage, its local sources of power and social roots were being reinforced and rebuilt in a variety of ways. Using a combination of historical and anthropological methodologies, and based upon substantial archival and field research, the book argues that the idea of kingship lived on in South India and continues to play a vital and important role in contemporary South Indian social and political life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To honour the Queen Mother and mark the occasion of her 100th birthday, Dundurn Press is publishing a biography of this remarkable woman in words and pictures. Since her marriage to George VI, the Queen Mother has been a public figure who has always evoked passionate reactions: whether it was the anonymous soldier who vowed "to fight for that little lady," Adolf Hitler who described her as "the most dangerous woman in Europe," or the Canadian journalist who coined the expression "the Queen Mum." A Canadian perspective on a sovereign who created and cultivated a special relationship with Canada informs The Queen Mother and Her Century. The first of many tours of Canada, the Royal Tour of 1939, which gave Canadians our initial opportunity to experience the Queen Motherâe(tm)s personal magnetism first-hand, is described in detail, along with the many Canadian relationships the Queen Mother has formed since. The Queen Mother and Her Century is a wonderful album-sized (81/2âe x 11âe ) commemorative keepsake and makes a thoughtful gift for the many admirers of the Queen Mother. The text and 120 colour photographs are complemented by time bars, lists of the Queen Motherâe(tm)s official tours, associations the Queen Mother is patron of, places that are named after the Queen Mother, and the Royal Family tree.
