Book Prince William Sound Marine Bird Surveys Synthesis and Restoration

Download or read book Prince William Sound Marine Bird Surveys Synthesis and Restoration written by Aly McKnight and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small boat surveys were conducted to estimate marine bird and sea otter populations in Prince William Sound, Alaska during March and July 2007, using methods developed in 1989-1991. Biologists examined trends of marine birds in the oiled and unoiled areas of the sound from 1989-2007. Data indicated that most taxa for which injury was previously demonstrated were not recovering. During winter three taxa had increasing population trends, while fourteen taxa did not exhibit any trend toward recovery. During summer three taxa showed trends consistent with a recovering population, and fifteen taxa showed no trend toward recovery. Densities of sea otters in March and July surveys showed no trend toward recovery. The study focused on seabirds, but also included other birds and various marine mammals.
