Download or read book Primitive Psycho Therapy and Quackery written by Robert Means Lawrence and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-12-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Certain historic modes of healing, including the use of medical amulets and charms, which have been regarded from early times as magical remedies, belong properly to the domain of Psychical Medicine. For the therapeutic virtues of medical amulets are not inherent in these objects, but are due to the influence exerted by them upon the imaginative faculties of the individuals who employ them. They afford powerful suggestions of healing. In this volume the writer has sought to emphasize the fact that the efficiency of many primitive therapeutic methods, and the success of charlatanry, are to be attributed to mental influence. Download or read book Primitive Psycho Therapy and Quackery Classic Reprint written by Robert Means Lawrence and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-26 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Primitive Psycho-Therapy and Quackery Certain historic modes of healing, including the use of medical amulets and charms, which have been regarded from early times as magical remedies, belong properly to the domain of Psychical Medicine. For the therapeutic virtues of medical amulets are not inherent in these ob jects, but are due to the influence exerted by them upon the imaginative faculties of the individuals who employ them. They afford powerful suggestions of healing. In this volume the writer has sought to emphasize the fact that the efficiency of many primitive therapeutic methods, and the success of charlatanry, are to be attributed to mental influence. The use of spells and incantations, the practice of laying-on of hands, the cult of relics, mes merism, and metallo - therapy, have been important factors in the evolution of modern mental healing. The method of their operation, a mystery for ages, is revealed by the word suggestion. Thus may be traced some of the steps in the development of psycho-therapy. One ruling force. Book Semiotic Approaches to Human Relations

Download or read book Semiotic Approaches to Human Relations written by Juergen Ruesch and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1951 psychiatrist Jürgen Ruesch and polymath Gregory Bateson published "Communication: The Social Matrix of Psychiatry" within which was the first designation of the discipline of human communication. Their communication model took into account the complexity of curvilinear human interaction (three dimensional, multi-directional transactions, interpreting signs and symbols in language, or semiotics) and created four divisions of communication amenable to scientific study. These are intrapersonal communication (e.g., one's own thinking); interpersonal communication (e.g., conversation); group communication (e.g., a work team); and cultural communication (e.g., a global conference). Many scholars thus consider Jürgen Ruesch as a virtual founder of the modern human science discipline of communication. This volume collects his most influential articles in that discipline.
