It is commonly used to detect abnormal heart rhythms and investigate the cause of chest pains. It is important for clinicians to recognise and interpret ECG patterns accurately to ensure correct diagnosis and effective treatment. This book is step by step guide to performing and interpreting ECGs. Divided into 11 sections, the text begins with an overview of the history of ECGs and the physiology of the heart and its conduction system. The next chapters discuss the basics of ECG, the leads and their placement, and normal ECG morphology. The following sections cover systematic interpretation of ECGs, arrhythmias, paediatric ECG interpretation and congenital anomalies, and finally, differential diagnosis. The second edition of this practical guide has been fully revised to include the latest advances in the field. Line diagrams and clinical images further enhance learning. Book ECGs for the Emergency Physician 1

Download or read book ECGs for the Emergency Physician 1 written by Amal Mattu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over 200 traces to test your knowledge, this book is a first class learning tool for emergency physicians. Basic student-level knowledge of ECGs is assumed, so the reader can move directly to learning about the more complex traces that occur in the emergency department. The level of difficulty is stratified into two sections for specialists in training and specialist emergency physicians. A minimum amount of information is given beneath each trace, as if in the real situation. The full clinical description is printed in a separate section to avoid the temptation of “looking”. Accompanied by learning points, and with the cases presented randomly, this book provides a rich source of information on the interpretation of ECGs – a core skill for all emergency department staff.

ECG interpretation is a difficult skill to master and often students must learn and practice it on their own time. Fast and Easy ECG is designed to bring the classroom to the student through the use of sidebar instructor comments, questions, and clinical tidbits. Concepts are learned through a philosophy of repetition, anatomical understanding of dysrhythmias and practice. The companion DVD brings an ECG instructor (co-author Dr. Keith Wesley) to the reader by providing lectures of important concepts and skills. Fast and Easy ECGs covers the 5-step process for basic ECG interpretation and introduces the reader to concepts in 12-lead ECG interpretation.

Book A Practical Approach to EKG Interpretation

Download or read book A Practical Approach to EKG Interpretation written by Raj K. Anand and published by . This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During my 38 years of teaching experience, I have been repeatedly reminded of the difficulty which the students feel in comprehending the method to calculate the QRS axis. More importantly, they lack in their understanding of basic principles which form the very foundation of the approach to diagnosis of a rhythm in an electrocardiogram. These two areas have always been of great concern to me. Therefore, I have created a new method for calculating the QRS axis. This method is more efficient than the conventional approach, and easier to understand. The feedback from the students has been very encouraging. I share this new approach with the readers of this book, in chapter 11. Basic principles required for a better understanding of the approach to analysis of a rhythm in an EKG have been explained in detail in chapters 9 and 10. Every attempt has been made to make sure that the approach is practical and easy to understand. A series of 25 EKG tracings along with step by step guidance to reach the diagnosis has been provided on pages 275 - 326 for an in-depth understanding of the art of EKG interpretation. Another important observation concerns the lack of follow up practice of EKG interpretation by the students, due to lack of availability of time to sit down with a cardiologist on a regular basis. A follow up practice is crucial to maintaining the skill, after initial learning of how to read an EKG. This challenge has been met by providing a series of 72 EKG tracings along with interpretation for each tracing, at the back section of the book, whereby, the students can practice and improve their skill at their own convenient time on a regular basis.

Book Twelve Lead Electrocardiography

Download or read book Twelve Lead Electrocardiography written by D. Bruce Foster and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-26 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a fully revised and updated edition of the major work that teaches health professionals to utilize the 12-lead ECG in daily clinical practice. It deals with the analysis of the morphology of ECG waveforms in order to diagnose many conditions not related to rhythm, including ischemia, acute myocardial infarction, and hypertrophy of the heart muscle. Almost all other texts of morphologic interpretation for non-cardiologists rely heavily on memorizing electrocardiographic patterns. This book is unique due to its different technique, leading the reader through easily understood electrophysiologic principles, and then allowing the reader to deduce what the 12 lead electrocardiogram will look like under various circumstances.
