Book PRIME

Download or read book PRIME written by Robert W. Salthouse and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Army uses prime power - large, mobile generators - in its rear areas to bridge the gap between commercial power and tactical generators. When supplying concentrations of Army units, prime power is less vulnerable than commercial power and demands less fuel and maintenance than tactical generators. The Engineering and Housing Support Center of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers procures, operates, and maintains the Army's prime power equipment. Power Requirements for Installations and Military Encampments (PRIME) is the model that the Center uses to calculate prime-power requirements for selected Army units and facilities in specific-wartime scenarios. Users can operate, understand, and maintain PRIME at a number of levels. An end user can operate PRIME simply by following the instruction on the screen. A more sophisticated user may wish to examine the underlying algorithms. Similarly, we have made it possible for the maintenance programmer to update PRIME periodically by revising only the static data files, without having to revise and recompile any of the executable machine programs. At the next level, a maintenance programmer who wishes to change PRIME can examine the program's source code and revise the program's capabilities by editing and recompiling the source code. Keywords: Electricity; Prime Power; Generators; Mobilization; Tactical generators."--Stinet.

Book Training the Best Dog Ever

    Book Details:
  • Author : Larry Kay
  • Publisher : Workman Publishing
  • Release : 2012-09-25
  • ISBN : 0761168850
  • Pages : 305 pages

Download or read book Training the Best Dog Ever written by Larry Kay and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-25 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training the Best Dog Ever, originally published in hardcover as The Love That Dog Training Program, is a book based on love and kindness. It features a program of positive reinforcement and no-fail techniques that author Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewicz used to train the White House dog, Bo Obama, and each of Senator Ted Kennedy’s dogs, among countless others. Training the Best Dog Ever relies on trust and treats, not choke collars; on bonding, not leash-yanking or reprimanding. The five-week training program takes only 10 to 20 minutes of practice a day and works both for puppies and for adult dogs that need to be trained out of bad habits. Illustrated with step-by-step photographs, the book covers hand-feeding; crate and potty training; and basic cues—sit, stay, come here—as well as more complex goals, such as bite inhibition and water safety. It shows how to avoid or correct typical behavior problems, including jumping, barking, and leash-pulling. Plus: how to make your dog comfortable in the world—a dog that knows how to behave in a vet’s office, is at ease around strangers, and more. In other words, the best dog ever.

Book Prime Power

Download or read book Prime Power written by Robert W. Salthouse and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army cannot be sure whether it has enough prime power generators to provide electricity during wartime. It has reason to believe it may not. The uncertainty - the possible deficiency - should not be tolerated. Prime power is essential. The alternatives will not suffice. Commercial utilities are not available everywhere and are too vulnerable in wartime. Tactical generators consume too much fuel, demand too much maintenance, and wear out too fast general usage. The barrier to overcoming the problem is the Army's inability to produce a sound estimate of the requirement. The current estimating method is based on an outdated and incomplete mission statement for prime power generators and employs a single, outdated, kilowatt-per-person planning factor. The mission should be restated to include: Overseas, provide reliable, mobile, and resource-efficient power to groups of Army units and essential installations behind the front combat zone; In the United States, support large, rapid population increases in Army installations during mobilization; and In the United States, provide emergency power to Army and other critical installations when commercial power distribution is disrupted. The requirements calculation should, to be more reflective of real-world forces, be based on scenario-specific simulation of peak-time power consumption by selected Army units and installations. These changes should be implemented by the Army's Engineering and Housing Support Center. Only then will the Army be in a position to rectify any prime power deficiencies. (jhd).

Book Work Hard Be Nice

Download or read book Work Hard Be Nice written by Jay Mathews and published by Algonquin Books. This book was released on 2009-01-20 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Mike Feinberg and Dave Levin signed up for Teach for America right after college and found themselves utter failures in the classroom, they vowed to remake themselves into superior educators. They did that—and more. In their early twenties, by sheer force of talent and determination never to take no for an answer, they created a wildly successful fifth-grade experience that would grow into the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP), which today includes sixty-six schools in nineteen states and the District of Columbia. KIPP schools incorporate what Feinberg and Levin learned from America's best, most charismatic teachers: lessons need to be lively; school days need to be longer (the KIPP day is nine and a half hours); the completion of homework has to be sacrosanct (KIPP teachers are available by telephone day and night). Chants, songs, and slogans such as "Work hard, be nice" energize the program. Illuminating the ups and downs of the KIPP founders and their students, Mathews gives us something quite rare: a hopeful book about education.
