Book Azumaya Algebras Actions and Modules

Download or read book Azumaya Algebras Actions and Modules written by Darrell Haile and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of a conference in honor of Goro Azumaya's seventieth birthday, held at Indiana University of Bloomington in May 1990. Professor Azumaya, who has been on the faculty of Indiana University since 1968, has made many important contributions to modern abstract algebra. His introduction and investigation of what have come to be known as Azumaya algebras subsequently stimulated much research on such rings and algebras, as well as applications to geometry and number theory. In addition to honoring Professor Azumaya's contributions, the conference was intended to stimulate interaction among three areas of his research interests; Azumaya algebras, group and Hopf algebra actions, and module theory. Aimed at researchers in algebra, this volume contains contributions by some of the leaders in these areas.

Book Hopf Algebras and Their Actions on Rings

Download or read book Hopf Algebras and Their Actions on Rings written by Susan Montgomery and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1993-10-28 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last ten years have seen a number of significant advances in Hopf algebras. The best known is the introduction of quantum groups, which are Hopf algebras that arose in mathematical physics and now have connections to many areas of mathematics. In addition, several conjectures of Kaplansky have been solved, the most striking of which is a kind of Lagrange's theorem for Hopf algebras. Work on actions of Hopf algebras has unified earlier results on group actions, actions of Lie algebras, and graded algebras. This book brings together many of these recent developments from the viewpoint of the algebraic structure of Hopf algebras and their actions and coactions. Quantum groups are treated as an important example, rather than as an end in themselves. The two introductory chapters review definitions and basic facts; otherwise, most of the material has not previously appeared in book form. Providing an accessible introduction to Hopf algebras, this book would make an excellent graduate textbook for a course in Hopf algebras or an introduction to quantum groups.

Book Perspectives in Ring Theory

Download or read book Perspectives in Ring Theory written by Freddy Van Oystaeyen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings is composed of the papers resulting from the NATO work-shop "Perspectives in Ring Theory" and the work-shop "Geometry and Invariant The ory of Representations of Quivers" . Three reports on problem sessions have been induced in the part corresponding to the work-shop where they belonged. One more report on a problem session, the "lost" problem session, will be published elsewhere eventually. vii Acknowledgement The meeting became possible by the financial support of the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The people at this division have been very helpful in the orga nization of the meeting, in particular we commemorate Dr. Mario di Lullo, who died unexpectedly last year, but who has been very helpful with the organization of earlier meetings in Ring Theory. For additional financial support we thank the national foundation for scientific research (NFWO), the rector of the University of Antwerp, UIA, and the Belgian Ministry of Education. We also gladly acknowledge support from the Belgian Friends of the Hebrew University and the chairman Prof. P. Van Remoortere who honored Prof. S. Amitsur for his continuous contributions to the mathematical activities at the University of Antwerp. I thank the authors who contributed their paper(s) to this proceedings and the lecturers for their undisposable contributions towards the success of the work-shop. Finally I thank Danielle for allowing me to spoil another holiday period in favor of a congress.

Book Group Rings Crossed Products and Galois Theory

Download or read book Group Rings Crossed Products and Galois Theory written by Donald S. Passman and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For readers with a basic graduate level background in algebra, these ten articles provide a readable introduction to three major interrelated subjects of noncommutative algebra. The theme is the interplay between group theory and ring theory, dealing specifically with group rings, crossed products, and the Galois theory of rings. The author has carefully included most definitions, to keep the required background minimal. Furthermore, each article contains a selection of results on the given topic, a limited number of proofs or sketches, and at least a few open problems.

Book Abelian Groups and Noncommutative Rings A Collection of Papers in Memory of Robert B Warfield Jr

Download or read book Abelian Groups and Noncommutative Rings A Collection of Papers in Memory of Robert B Warfield Jr written by László Fuchs and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of research papers is dedicated to the memory of the distinguished algebraist Robert B. Warfield, Jr. Focusing on abelian group theory and noncommutative ring theory, the book covers a wide range of topics reflecting Warfield's interests and includes two articles surveying his contributions to mathematics. Because the articles have been refereed to high standards and will not appear elsewhere, this volume is indispensable to any researcher in noncommutative ring theory or abelian group theory. With papers by some of the major leaders in the field, this book will also be important to anyone interested in these areas, as it provides an overview of current research directions.

Book Localization in Noetherian Rings

Download or read book Localization in Noetherian Rings written by A. V. Jategaonkar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1986-03-13 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph first published in 1986 is a reasonably self-contained account of a large part of the theory of non-commutative Noetherian rings. The author focuses on two important aspects: localization and the structure of infective modules. The former is presented in the opening chapters after which some new module-theoretic concepts and methods are used to formulate a new view of localization. This view, which is one of the book's highlights, shows that the study of localization is inextricably linked to the study of certain injectives and leads, for the first time, to some genuine applications of localization in the study of Noetherian rings. In the last part Professor Jategaonkar introduces a unified setting for four intensively studied classes of Noetherian rings: HNP rings, PI rings, enveloping algebras of solvable Lie algebras, and group rings of polycyclic groups. Some appendices summarize relevant background information about these four classes.

Book Noncommutative Noetherian Rings

Download or read book Noncommutative Noetherian Rings written by John C. McConnell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a reprinted edition of a work that was considered the definitive account in the subject area upon its initial publication by J. Wiley & Sons in 1987. It presents, within a wider context, a comprehensive account of noncommutative Noetherian rings. The author covers the major developments from the 1950s, stemming from Goldie's theorem and onward, including applications to group rings, enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, PI rings, differential operators, and localization theory. The book is not restricted to Noetherian rings, but discusses wider classes of rings where the methods apply more generally. In the current edition, some errors were corrected, a number of arguments have been expanded, and the references were brought up to date. This reprinted edition will continue to be a valuable and stimulating work for readers interested in ring theory and its applications to other areas of mathematics.
