Book Primary Health Care People Practice Place

Download or read book Primary Health Care People Practice Place written by Gavin J. Andrews and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health care is constantly undergoing change and refinement resulting from the adoption of new practices and technologies, the changing nature of societies and populations, and also shifts in the very places from which care is delivered. Primary Health Care: People, Practice, Place draws together significant contributions from established experts across a variety of disciplines to focus on such changes in primary health care, not only because it is the most basic and integral form of health service delivery, but also because it is an area to which geographers have made significant contributions and to which other scholars have engaged in 'thinking geographically' about its core concepts and issues. Including perspectives from both consumers and producers, it moves beyond geographical accounts of the context of health service provision through its explicit focus on the practice of primary health care. With arguments well-supported by empirical research, this book will appeal not only to scholars across a range of social and health sciences, but also to professionals involved in health services.

Book Handbook for conducting assessments of barriers to effective coverage with health services

Download or read book Handbook for conducting assessments of barriers to effective coverage with health services written by Theadora Swift KOLLER and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-06-25 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the most recent data available , 4.5 billion people were not fully covered by essential health services in their countries in 2021. Likewise, in 2019, the total population experiencing financial hardship was estimated to be 2 billion people. To scale up action to leave no one behind, WHO’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work, 2025-2028 (GPW 14) has an explicit and strong commitment to equity. In support of this, WHO has released a handbook with methods for the identification of barriers to effective coverage with health services. The 8-module handbook applies mixed method research approaches -- grounded in the Tanahashi framework for effective coverage -- to focus on barriers experienced by potential users and non-users of health services. The handbook facilitates the capturing of evidence on the interface between the population and the services. The handbook has four objectives. 1.To orient national authorities and partners on key concepts, definitions, frameworks and principles relevant to barriers assessments. 2.To build the capacity of national authorities and partners to design a research plan and apply diverse methods (e.g. informant interviews, literature reviews, quantitative analysis and focus groups) in barriers assessments. 3.To provide guidance for reporting on barrier assessment findings in a clear and actionable manner and convening key stakeholders to deliberate next steps. 4.To adapt the methods for humanitarian contexts, accounting for the need for differentiated approaches.

Book excerpt: Primary health care (PHC) began as a solution to problems in the developing world and is coming to be seen as a profound challenge to medical attitudes the world over. The book points to three issues at the root of PHC - universal availability of essential health care to individuals, families and population groups according to need, the involvement of communities in planning, delivering and evaluating such care and an organized active role for other sectors in health activities. It is pointed out although these principles may seem uncontroversial their introduction in developing countries has been far from smooth. When it comes to the north the principles of equity, participation and intersectoral collaboration have been resisted even more strongly by both planners and the medical establishment. By examining the lessons learnt from the developing countries, the author demonstrates the necessity to de-professionalize health. He writes at a time when resistance to PHC in the Third World is increasingly being based on dubious northern models for health care. This book demonstrates the way in which a strategy for survival in poor regions becomes a model for adequate and sustainable living everywhere.

Download or read book Health care accreditation and quality of care written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2022-07-31 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accreditation of health care facilities or organizations is a frequently applied intervention to improve quality of care. However, the evidence of its effectiveness is mixed, and its impact on wider health system goals is frequently unclear. This discussion paper explores its use globally as a health care quality intervention. The paper uses a broad evidence base of accreditation, quality interventions and health systems research, combined with global interdisciplinary experience and expertise, and outlines the linkages between accreditation and other key attributes of the health system. Using a health systems lens, the paper discusses strategic questions that a health system decision-maker might consider when deliberating accreditation or similar interventions. This paper is aimed at health system leaders looking to improve quality of care and wishing to understand how accreditation can impact on the wider health system and quality landscape. The audience also includes any organization wishing to further its understanding about the value and application of quality interventions.

Book Managing Primary Health Care

Download or read book Managing Primary Health Care written by Richard Heaver and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper looks at the way in which the pattern of disease is changing in developing countries, and the implications this has for the way in which primary health care (PHC) programs should be designed and managed. In the absence of an accepted methodology for discussing health management issues, it attempts to develop a conceptual framework suited to analyzing an environment of dynamic change. It applies this framework first to the management of primary health care programs provided by governments, and then to the role of the non-government sector in primary care. The paper draws broad clients. If the general approach adopted seems useful, the conceptual framework needs next to be applied to a series of specific country cases to test its validity and refine it, and to adapt the general conclusions to local cultural, administrative and political conditions.
