Download or read book Introduction to Futures and Options Markets in Australia written by Alex Frino and published by . This book was released on 2004-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Futures and Options Markets in Australia is the only text of its kind dedicated to a thorough treatment of Australian futures and options. It provides a detailed analysis of the major products in the Australian market as well as a discussion of the market itself. In conjunction with the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), the text introduces SFE contracts, and through concrete examples, describes their pricing and use in speculation, hedging and arbitrage. There are a significant number of subtleties in Australian futures and options contracts, and this means that the treatment of futures and options markets provided in other texts has its limitations. Introduction to Futures and Options Markets in Australia aims to address these limitations, thus making it an ideal complement to any futures and options text.

Book The Future of Financial Regulation

Download or read book The Future of Financial Regulation written by Iain G MacNeil and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Financial Regulation is an edited collection of papers presented at a major conference at the University of Glasgow in spring 2009, co-sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council World Economy and Finance Programme and the the Australian Research Council Governance Research Network. It draws together a variety of different perspectives on the international financial crisis which began in August 2007 and later turned into a more widespread economic crisis following the collapse of Lehman Brothers in the autumn of 2008. Spring 2009 was in many respects the nadir since valuations in financial markets had reached their low point and crisis management rather than regulatory reform was the main focus of attention. The conference and book were deliberately framed as an attempt to re-focus attention from the former to the latter. The first part of the book focuses on the context of the crisis, discussing the general characteristics of financial crises and the specific influences that were at work this time round. The second part focuses more specifically on regulatory techniques and practices implicated in the crisis, noting in particular an over-reliance on the capacity of regulators and financial institutions to manage risk and on the capacity of markets to self-correct. The third part focuses on the role of governance and ethics in the crisis and in particular the need for a common ethical framework to underpin governance practices and to provide greater clarity in the design of accountability mechanisms. The final part focuses on the trajectory of regulatory reform, noting the considerable potential for change as a result of the role of the state in the rescue and recuperation of the financial system and stressing the need for fundamental re-appraisal of business and regulatory models.

Book The Future of High Cost Credit

Download or read book The Future of High Cost Credit written by Jodi Gardner and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07-14 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a new way of thinking about the controversial and complex challenges associated with the regulation of high-cost credit, specifically payday lending. These products have received significant attention in both the media and political arena. The inadequacy of regulatory interventions has created ongoing problems with the provision of high-cost credit, particularly for consumers with lesser bargaining power and who are already financially vulnerable. The book tackles two specific gaps in the existing literature. The first involves inadequate analysis of the relevant philosophical concepts around high-cost credit, which can result in an over-simplification of what are particularly complex issues. The second is a lack of engagement in both the market and lived experience of borrowers, resulting in limited understanding of those who use these financial products. The Future of High-Cost Credit explores the theoretical grounding, policy initiatives and interdisciplinary perspectives associated with high-cost credit, making a novel and insightful contribution to the existing literature. The problems with debt extend far beyond the legal sphere, and the book will therefore be of interest to many other academic disciplines, as well as for those working in public policy and 'the third sector'.

Book Stochastic Volatility

Download or read book Stochastic Volatility written by Neil Shephard and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-03-10 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic volatility is the main concept used in the fields of financial economics and mathematical finance to deal with time-varying volatility in financial markets. This book brings together some of the main papers that have influenced the field of the econometrics of stochastic volatility, and shows that the development of this subject has been highly multidisciplinary, with results drawn from financial economics, probability theory, and econometrics, blending to produce methods and models that have aided our understanding of the realistic pricing of options, efficient asset allocation, and accurate risk assessment. A lengthy introduction by the editor connects the papers with the literature.
