Book Preventing the Poaching of Personnel

Download or read book Preventing the Poaching of Personnel written by Sean M. Fazande and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This paper takes aim at the retention problem in the Air Force exploring the primarily pilots, but also cyberwarriors. As the Air Force adapts to societal influences, knowing how leaders affect commitment to service is key to retaining people in critically manned positions. Bolstering the US Air Forces ability to identify the key components that drive an individual to forgo their commitment to service will allow Air Force leaders to counter their impact. This paper used an evaluation method to determine how to improve organizational commitment. Throughout this paper the analysis highlighted intrinsic investments as the most powerful anchors to organizational commitment. This paper also explored the varying impacts of leadership styles on generational differences and how they influence individuals. This paper resulted in a recommendation for a culture shift in how leader career paths are managed in relation to their primary AFSC and the use of graduated benefits over time"--Abstract.

Book Situational Prevention of Poaching

Download or read book Situational Prevention of Poaching written by Andrew Lemieux and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, criminologists have looked for scientific ways to study, understand, and ultimately prevent crime. In this volume, a unique offense, poaching, is explored in various contexts to determine what opportunity structures favor this crime and how situational crime prevention may reduce its prevalence. The data sources used range from publically available secondary data about animal populations, to interviews with hunters, to actual law enforcement data collected inside protected areas. Various methods are utilized to look for patterns in poaching behaviour regarding where poachers strike, which species they target and their modus operandi. Collectively, the volume shows that principles of criminal opportunity theory and situational crime prevention are useful for studying and preventing poaching in a variety of contexts. The methods employed by each chapter are easily replicated and meant to stimulate empirical poaching research where data is available. While the theoretical grounding of this volume is drawn from criminology, it is written for a broad audience of academics, practitioners and those interested in wildlife conservation.

It highlights big business, government corruption and inept enforcement, involved in the illegal operations in Africa and Asia. The book records factual information that digs deep into the ongoing slaughter where many animals are killed for their ivory, some for their meat and skins, and other parts that end up in Asian medication myths. Book Restrictive Covenants in Employment Contracts and Other Mechanisms for Protection of Corporate Confidential Information

Download or read book Restrictive Covenants in Employment Contracts and Other Mechanisms for Protection of Corporate Confidential Information written by Pascal Lagesse and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book came about following the International Bar Association's annual conference that was held in Prague in September of 2005. One of the sessions at this conference co-chaired by Pascale Lagesse and Mariann Norrbom was entitled 'Restrictive covenants in employment contracts and other mechanisms for protection of corporate confidential information.' International panelists consisted of members of the legal profession, corporate representatives and a court justice. Discussions focused on key issues and the concerns companies have when seeking to protect their confidential information, and insight was given into what employers can do in order to ensure that their employees do not take valuable company information with them upon leaving the company. Using a case study as a basis, particular emphasis was placed on non-solicitation and non-compete covenants, and the extent to which an employer can rely on such covenants when protecting his interests. The specific situation of a key employee who left her employer to join a competitor was addressed, and the types of action the employer could take in order to avoid the solicitation of his clients and staff and prevent his employees from competing against him were discussed. This book picks up where the session left off, and consists of no less than 13 contributions from individuals from 5 continents. Each country representative has been asked to respond to a series of pertinent questions on the subjects of restrictive covenants and protection of confidential information, in order to give a comparative overview of how these issues are treated in different jurisdictions. This comprehensive publication will be a valuable resource tool for legal practitioners, employers, HR professionals and anyone interested in the field of employment law.

Book Creating Silicon Valley in Europe

Download or read book Creating Silicon Valley in Europe written by Steven Casper and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2007-07-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the 1990s and early 2000s the strength of the United States economy has been linked to its ability to foster large numbers of small innovative technology companies, a few of which have grown to dominate new industries, such as Microsoft, Genentech, or Google. US technology clusters such as Silicon Valley have become tremendous engines of innovation and wealth creation, and the envy of governments around the world. Creating Silicon Valley in Europe examines trajectories by which new technology industries emerge and become sustainable across different types of economies. Governments around the world have poured vast sums of money into policies designed to foster clusters of similar start-up firms in their economies. This book employs careful empirical studies of the biotechnology and software industries in the United States and several European economies, to examine the relative success of policies aimed at cultivating the 'Silicon Valley model' of organizing and financing companies in Europe. Influential research associated with the 'varieties of capitalism' literature has argued that countries with liberal market orientations, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, can more easily design policies to cultivate success in new technology industries compared to countries associated with organized economies, such as Germany and Sweden. The book's empirical findings support the view that national institutional factors strongly condition the success of new technology policies. However, the study also identifies important cases in which radically innovative new technology firms have thrived within organized economies. Through examining case of both success and failure Creating Silicon Valley in Europe helps identify constellations of market and governmental activities that can lead to the emergence of sustainable clusters of new technology firms across both organized and liberal market economies.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Family Policy

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Family Policy written by Neil Gilbert and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-10 with total page 1089 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook examines contemporary trends and issues in the formation of families over the different stages of the life cycle and how they interact with family-oriented social policies of modern welfare states, mainly in the OECD countries of Western Europe, East Asia and the U.S. Focusing largely on family needs in the early stages of the life course, the conventional package of policies tends to emphasize programs and benefits clustered around measures to support marriage, childbearing, care, the reconciliation of employment and childcare during the preschool years. Drawing on a multidisciplinary group of experts from many countries, this book extends the conventional perspective on family policy by also looking at later phases of the family life course. In taking a life course perspective, this Handbook extends the purview to encompass the three main stages of family life. These are (1) cohabitation, marriage and starting a family; (2) the early years of parenting, care and employment, and (3) the period of transitions and later life: family breakdown and intergenerational supports across the life course.
