Book Prestressed zero Maintenance Pavements

Download or read book Prestressed zero Maintenance Pavements written by Amir Naoum Hanna and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Although sections of prestressed concrete pavements were first built 30 years ago, the techniques of design and construction are still undergoing development. This report summarizes the principal developments in this field since the first prestressed pavement was constructed at the Paris International Airport at Orly in 1946. The review covers papers, articles and reports published in the technical and society proceedings of many countries. The report describes the history of prestressed concrete pafement, and the features of prestressed concrete pavements constructed in various parts of the world, prestressing methods used on different projects, joint details used on various projects, particularly for those built in the U.S., information on performance, load tests and measurements on prestressed concrete pavements, methods used for designing prestressed concrete pavements"--Technical report documentation p.

Book Unique Concepts and Systems for zero maintenance Pavements

Download or read book Unique Concepts and Systems for zero maintenance Pavements written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document is a State-of-the-Art report surveying many new, as well as infrequently used techniques for improving the performance of the components of pavement systems. The goal of this work was to identify important factors affecting the design of new structural systems for "zero-maintenance" pavements. The three basic components of the conventional pavement system--the subgrade, the subbase and base, and the surface course--have been examined. The latest techniques of strengthening and stabilizing the subgrade component, and preserving its improved properties are reviewed. The feasibility of utilizing synthetic aggregates and waste products in "zero-maintenance" pavements is addressed. The utilization of new materials and new systems such as prefabricated panels and pile supported pavements have also been investigated. Evaluations of existing information on the individual pavement system components have been synthesized to produce one modified conventional, and seven new structural pavement systems that may be capable of satisfying "zero-maintenance" criteria.

Book Prestressed Pavement

Download or read book Prestressed Pavement written by Shiraz D. Tayabji and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computerized procedure for the thickness design of "zero-maintenance" prestressed pavements is presented. Factors considered in developing the design procedure include traffic loading, temperature and moisture variations in concrete slab, loss of subbase support, properties of concrete, subbase and subgrade, and effective mid-slab prestress. The procedure is based on flexural stress analysis and prevention of bottom transverse cracking that may initiate from the longitudinal edge of the slab in the vicinity of midslab. Input for the computer program include axle load distribution, wheel placement, traffic distribution during the day, temperature data, load transfer effectiveness, and effective prestress at mid-slab. Program output is in terms of total fatigue consumption at the end of design life. If the fatigue consumption is less than 100 percent, then the thickness meets design criteria. A design example is presented for a rural four-lane highway in Illinois.

Book Identification of Candidate Zero Maintenance Paving Materials

Download or read book Identification of Candidate Zero Maintenance Paving Materials written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A broad spectrum of materials which may have potential for improving the characteristics of pavements with regard to reducing future maintenance were reviewed with those materials or materials systems possessing the most advantages being considered as candidates for a zero maintenance paving system. These included Gussasphalt, asbestos asphalts, sulfur modified asphalts, noncalcareous inorganic cements (sulfur and phosphate), expansive cements, fiber reinforced concrete, polymers in concretes, sealants, ceramics, prestressed concrete and vacuum processed concrete.

Book Identification of Candidate Zero Maintenance Paving Materials

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A broad spectrum of materials which may have potential for improving the characteristics of pavements with regard to reducing future maintenance were reviewed with those materials or materials systems possessing the most advantages being considered as candidates for a zero maintenance paving system. This volume considers fiber reinforced concrete, polymers in concretes, sealants, ceramics, prestressed concrete and vacuum processed concrete. These materials were compared to conventional asphalt and portland cement concrete systems on the basis of mechanical properties, ease of construction and maintenance, environmental compatibility, availability, cost, and possible uses. None of the materials or materials systems studied will provide a singular answer to the problem of zero maintenance. However, many of the materials possess characteristics which could be incorporated into pavements to greatly extend the period prior to maintenance.

Book Zero maintenance Pavements

Download or read book Zero maintenance Pavements written by Michael I. Darter and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents results achieved during the first year's effort to determine performance requirements and capabilities of heavily trafficked conventional pavements to provide zero-maintenance performance. Five types of pavements are under consideration in this study: plain jointed concrete, reinforced jointed concrete, continuously reinforced concrete, flexible, and composite pavements. An extensive field survey of over 60 pavements carrying high traffic volumes was conducted and comprehensive analytical analyses were performed. A wealth of basic data has been accumulated for the development of zero-maintenance pavement design procedures during the next phase of the project.
