Book Prestressed Concrete Caisson Island

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete Caisson Island written by Norwegian Contractors and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The primary objective of this study is the derivation of a concept for a technically and economically feasible production and oil storage platform to be deployed in the Beaufort Sea. Full fabrication and installation of topside facilities are to be completed in southern yards prior to towing to the Beaufort Sea. Ballasting materials placed into the structure, after installation at the site, are to be of no structural significance except that of providing additional weight. The secondary objective of the study is to assess the structure, with respect to costs, and design, for variations in water depth, foundation specifications, storage volume and topside facilities weights, in order to clearly identify the sensitivity of the structure to changes in these parameters. Input specifications for the following design dependent areas were provided by Dome Petroleum Ltd. and form the basis for the study: 1. Basic structure requirements and configuration. 2. Environmental criteria, including summer and winter conditions. 3. Foundation. 4. Functional parameters such as water depth, oil storage capacity, top facilities, weights and deck loading intensities. 5. Maximum number of conductors in the structure. 6. Oil, for storage system evaluation. 7. Draft limitation during towing to the Beaufort Sea. 8. Ballasting and fill material. ... Input specifications ... and platform configuration and design ... formed the basis for the study"--Leaves 3-4.

Book Islands for Offshore Nuclear Power Stations

Download or read book Islands for Offshore Nuclear Power Stations written by Binnie & Partners and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Working Group "0ffshore Nuclear Power Plants" was established by the Commission of the European Communities in 1971. At that time it appeared that the option offered by creating new sites offshore should be explored. The present development of nuclear power has not, however, reached the stage where offs hore siting can be considered as a near or medium term proposition. The purpose of this report is to summarize the state of the art for the provision of floating or fixed structures, or man-made islands of the size needed for the construction of nuclear and other power stations. It describes the main factors which must be taken into account in the design and location of such islands and provides an indication of feasibility and cost for each design at the present time. It deals mainly with the civil engineering problems and not other major factors, such as the law of the sea, the rights of countries to locate nuclear establishments off their coast, their safety, security, the energy connection with the mainland, the marine ecology, the logistics, etc. ; many of these problems are directly related to the site and have major economic and political implications. By studying application examples the Working Group has occupied itself with these other factors.

Book Geotechnical Engineering Handbook Elements and Structures

Download or read book Geotechnical Engineering Handbook Elements and Structures written by Ulrich Smoltczyk and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-05-06 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3 of this Handbook deals with foundations. It presents spread foundations starting with basic designs right up the necessary proofs. The section on pile foundations covers possible types of piles and their design, together with their load-bearing capacity, suitability, sample loads and testing. A further chapter explains the use, manufacture and calculation of caissons, illustrated by real-life examples. There is comprehensive coverage of the possibilities for stabilising excavations, together with the relevant area of application, while another section is devoted to the useful application of trench walls. Shore protection is treated in a special contribution covering sheet pile walls, while all types of slope protection and retainments are described in detail with excellent illustrations. Two further contributions are devoted to the special topics of machine foundations and foundations in subsidence regions. The entire book is an indispensable aid in the planning and execution of all types of foundations found in practice, whether for academics or practitioners.

Book Caisson Retained Island Beaufort Sea

Download or read book Caisson Retained Island Beaufort Sea written by John Fitzpatrick and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This project was assigned to Swan Wooster on an urgent basis in mid-May, 1980, with the intention of installing the caisson units during the fall of the same year. Consequently little time was available for researching alternatives to the four sided, four caissoned system as originally proposed by Dome engineers. During the early weeks of design the system was modified by Swan Wooster to an eight-sided, four unit system and concrete was chosen as the most suitable construction material, from the point of view of cost and availability within the tight time schedule. With the decision to postpone construction startup to 1981, more time became available to review the possible alternatives to the above concept and to see if a preferable system could be devised. The review, nevertheless, confirms the choice of the original basic system (modified to 8 sides) as being the one most suited to the design criteria and the conditions for mobilization, set-down and re-use of the structure" -- ASTIS [online] database.

Book Concrete Structures for Oil and Gas Fields in Hostile Marine Environments

Download or read book Concrete Structures for Oil and Gas Fields in Hostile Marine Environments written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 2008-12-01 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete offshore structures have been successfully delivered to the international oil and gas industry for more than 35 years. Some 50 major concrete platforms of different shapes and sizes, supporting large production and storage facilities, are currently operating in hostile marine environments worldwide and have excellent service records. After some years with little development activity, today there is a renewed interest in robust structures for the Arctic environment, for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals and for special floating barges and vessels. Currently, concrete solutions are being considered for projects north and east of Russia, north of Norway and offshore Newfoundland, among others. Concrete is also in increasing demand in built up coastal areas for a variety of purposes such as harbour works, tunnels and bridges, cargo terminals, parking garages and sea front housing developments where durability and robustness are essential. The mandate of fib Task Group 1.5 was to gather the experience and know-how pertinent to the development, design and execution of offshore concrete structures, and to elaborate on the applicability of concrete structures for the Arctic environments. The findings of the Task Group are presented in fib Bulletin 50. The report is based on experience gained from the design, execution and performance of a number of offshore concrete structures around the world and in particular in the North Sea. Ongoing inspections have shown excellent durability and structural performance, even in structures that have exceeded their design lives, in conditions often characterized by extreme wave loads, freezing conditions, hurricane force winds and seismic actions. This forms the "background" for discussing the applicability of concrete structures for the Arctic regions. Although to a large extent dedicated to oil- and gas- related structures, the report is also relevant to other marine applications where the same design principles, material selection criteria and construction methods apply. fib Bulletin 50 is not in itself a code, nor is it a textbook. Rather, extensive reference is made to proven and readily available design codes and construction guides, as well as relevant papers and proceedings and other fib publications.
