Book Presidential Campaigns and Environmental Policy

Download or read book Presidential Campaigns and Environmental Policy written by Travis Reid Glendenning and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports on a comparative analysis of the environmental policy campaign promises and in-term performances of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. The study divides environmental policy promises into domestic and global issues, and evaluates presidential performance with campaign promises, categorizing performance into five categories: comparable action, partially comparable action, no action, mixed action, and contrary action. Results of the analysis reveal a markedly lower level of promise fulfillment for environmental promises, particularly promises concerning global environmental issues, than for campaign promises in general. The promise fulfillment disparity arises from the intergenerational and politically subordinate nature of environmental policy.

Book The Obama Presidency

Download or read book The Obama Presidency written by William Crotty and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012-05-10 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this illuminating examination of the Obama presidency, the contributors describe the policy directions followed, and the administration’s level of success in achieving its objectives. Throughout the Obama administration, efforts were intended to alleviate the worst of the economic stress facing the nation, move the president closer to the center of the American political spectrum, and prepare for the upcoming reelection campaign, to be fought primarily on the same issues as the earlier one. The contributors present an analysis of the motivations and political thinking underlying the administration’s action along with assessments of the policy consequences of the issue agenda favored and the public’s reaction. The Obama Presidency is an in-depth account of one of the most intriguing and important presidencies at a time of economic crisis that goes a long way in explaining the policy decisions made and their political consequences, as well as the choices facing a nation in transition.

Book The Promise and Performance of American Democracy

Download or read book The Promise and Performance of American Democracy written by Jon R. Bond and published by Wadsworth Publishing Company. This book was released on 2006 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grounded in basic political science research, yet readily accessible to undergraduates, PROMISE AND PERFORMANCE uses the title's theme as an organizing framework for studying American Politics. The promise of democracy is analyzed using four core values: Popular Sovereignty, Political Freedom, Political Equality and Majority Rule/Minority Rights and is further explored in several new features including Living the Promise and Promise and Policy boxes. The performance part of the theme is then integrated with an assessment at the end of every chapter along with a concluding policy chapter. Solid scholarship and writing makes this an ideal text not just for reading and learning, but also as an example of how political science is researched and written by the practitioners in academia.

It charts his first year from both historical and contemporary political standpoints, and in the context of comparative pieces stacking Trump's performance against Gold-standard presidents such as Reagan, Kennedy and the last 'outsider', Eisenhower.
