Book Apollo Milton Obote

Download or read book Apollo Milton Obote written by Omongole R. Anguria and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some people, Obote is a Ugandan hero: the founder of the nation, a nationalist, pan- Africanist and socialist. To others, he was a tribalist, a regionalist and megalomaniac who ruled by the army and terrorised his opponents. To the Baganda, he was the man who destroyed their land and humiliated their people, who imposed one-party dictatorship, and nurtured Idi Amin. To others, he was a victim of the colonial system, a man who achieved much, but who also made avoidable mistakes with major implications for his country - 'a great statesman who made great mistakes', according to Uganda's leading public intellectual, Ali Mazrui. By all standards, Obote is a controversial and enigmatic figure, worthy of serious examination. This book comprises a collection of newspaper articles and commentaries by politicians, journalists and his family, relating to the man Ugandans love to hate. It includes contributions from Obote's long time nemesis, President Museveni. Some fifty articles aim to portray the many conflicting and complementary readings of Obote, and draw conclusions as to his genuine nature and political record.

Book What Is Wrong with Black People How Post slave Psychology and Afrocentricity are Joining with Colonialism to Undermine Black Africa s Cultural Integrity

Download or read book What Is Wrong with Black People How Post slave Psychology and Afrocentricity are Joining with Colonialism to Undermine Black Africa s Cultural Integrity written by Joe Mintsa and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-12-24 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mood in the world today is such that either you believe that Black people are natural slaves, or you believe that White people are evil by nature. In either case, you are in a stalemate: you can't change "nature," can you? -- Yet, not only is it very improbable for someone to turn up slave or evil just by nature; it is neither demonstrable that evil is conditioned by skin colour. The question, here, is: why should evil be White; and why should evil's target be Black? In other words, what is wrong with evil always tending to choose Black? In fact, the actual question is: what is wrong with Black people always tending to be evil's preferred targets? -- This book simply personifies a totally different type of intuition, where the most unsuspected a " yet, the most damning a " causes of the suffering and the struggles of Africans in today's world are not only laid open with courage, but also resolved with vision.

Book A Giant Tree has Fallen

Download or read book A Giant Tree has Fallen written by Seifudein Adem and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book memorialising the life and work of Ali Alamin Mazrui comprises more than 130 tributes written by people ranging from heads of state to journalists. Presented here are those tributes for which copyright permissions were received from among the hundreds that appeared online and print. In preparing this book, it was made very clear that, unlike other books of tributes to great men and women, there would be no segmentation of the sections based on writers and speakers positions in life. Instead, it was decided that the tributes be presented in alphabetical order based on writers and speakers last names. The decision hinged on the fact that Mazur would not have apposed any segmentation of people by class, race, ethnicity and gender etc. Nonetheless, out of great respect for Mazurs immediate family members, their tributes are presented first, followed by those from his global family members. Also included at the beginning of the book are three chapters that comprise an introductory essay, a brief biography of Mazur, and an essay on metaphorical-linguistic analysis of the tributes that follow. The book also has a preface by the coeditors and a forward by Salim Ahmed Salim, the former Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania and Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the Africa Union. Dr. Salim, who served as the Secretary-General of the OAU from 1989 to 2001, was Mazuris friend and contemporary. Mazruri once described Salim as Mr Africa and the first real postcolonial Secretary-General of the OAU.

Book To the Hague from Nabinene

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book This book is an autobiography in which Judge Nsereko narrates the story of his journey from Nabinene, his home village in rural Uganda, to The Hague, the legal capital of the world. It also gives an overview of his scholarly activities and professional experience. It is a fascinating story, replete with anecdotes, including those of life under successive despotic regimes since Uganda’s independence. It is testimony to the value of good education and hard work, to the power of resilience and to the inestimable grace of God. It is also proof to the truth that it is not how you start but how you end that ultimately matters. About the Author Daniel David Ntanda Nsereko served as Judge of the Appeals Chamber at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), in The Hague, Netherlands, from 2012 to 2023. Prior to joining the STL, Nsereko also served as Judge of the Appeals Division at the International Criminal Court (ICC), also in The Hague. Before his election to the ICC, he was Professor of Law at the University of Botswana where he served as Head of the Department of Law for eight years. He also taught law at Makerere University in Uganda and at the University of British Columbia in Canada as Owen Brown Visiting Professor of Law. At the time of his election as Judge of the ICC, he was a List Counsel, a lawyer admitted to represent accused persons and victims before the Court. Whilst at the STL, Judge Nsereko was elected member of the Advisory Committee on Nominations of Judges, which vets candidates and advises States Parties to the Rome Statute on their suitability for election as judges of the ICC. He served on the Committee for six years. He is a distinguished scholar, particularly in the fields of international law, international criminal law and human rights. He is also an advocate and has practised law in Uganda.

Book China s Diplomacy in Eastern and Southern Africa

Download or read book China s Diplomacy in Eastern and Southern Africa written by Seifudein Adem and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contemporary discourse on China-Africa relations, there are, on the one hand, the Sino-pessimists who see China as a giant vacuum-cleaner, sucking up Africa’s resources in order to fuel its own rapid industrialization, and destroying Africa’s development potential in the process. On the other hand, the Sino-optimists see China as the ultimate savior of Africa, capable of or willing to 'develop' the continent. Between the two divergent schools of thought are those sitting on the fence for the time being, the Sino-pragmatists, who are less sanguine for sure about what Africa would gain from China-Africa relations, but are nevertheless willing to reserve judgment until the dust settles. This book is innovative in two ways: it introduces a regional approach to the study of China-Africa relations by focusing on Eastern and Southern Africa; and it puts forward a disciplinary framework- disciplinary in both senses of that term- for interrogating the burgeoning literature about China-Africa relations by conceptualizing the three schools of thought mentioned above.
