Book excerpt: In our quest for health and longevity, we eat organic foods, take vitamins and nutrients-and, of course, exercise. We are aware that regular checkups by health professionals provide essential feedback, allowing us to understand what we are doing right and where it would be wise to change our behavior. We have conditioned ourselves to see our dentist every six months and to schedule an annual appointment with our family physician or internist to know where we stand regarding our vitals and biochemistry panels.Yet when it comes to exercise in general, and yoga and Pilates in particular, this system of regular checkups and science-based modifications is oddly absent. Most of us take a faith-based approach to exercise practice: we genuinely believe it will help us, and until our bodies balk, we cling to that belief even when the evidence is slight or nonexistent.Think about it: How do we really know what movements are best suited for our body type? What are the long-term effects of yoga, Pilates, or any other exercise regimen on our particular body? It's a vital question, and there's no reason it should go unanswered. Just as a dentist or physician can predict certain conditions, a biomechanical evaluation from a Certified Fellow of Chiropractic Biophysics? can help prevent pain or injury by prescribing precise movements that fit each body type.Since this type of assessment is not yet the standard in our society, we see a growing epidemic of painful conditions and injuries directly related to physical fitnessactivities. Yoga and Pilates are at the forefront of this trend, thanks to their enormous popularity: an estimated 64 million people in the United States regularly participate in one or the other. With this surge in participation over the last 20 years, I started to notice an escalating number of injuries and pain as a result of people engaging in these systems of movement. I became determined to find out why this was occurring by analyzing scientific research, to offer helpful guidance for yoga and Pilates practitioners. I describe what I have discovered in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortlisted for the Business Book Awards 2022 Many of us are striving to reach our full potential at work and beyond - to achieve our goals, rise to challenges and connect well with others. But how can we actively develop our performance, while also taking care of our well-being and life satisfaction? The Performance Curve is a ground-breaking guide to success and happiness in both work and life. Rather than telling you what to do, this book allows you to come up with a roadmap for evolving your inner operating system (your mindsets, emotions and habits) for your unique circumstances. Crucially, this book explores both how you can improve individual performance and how to build relationships and cultures that bring out the best others. By interweaving individual and collective development, this approach is transformational for building leadership and organizational performance. The Performance Curve is a powerful combination of neuroscience, psychological research and practical guidance. These concepts are then brought to life through the stories of remarkable individuals from different sectors, including business, the arts, academia and not-for-profits. Laura Watkins and Vanessa Dietzel draw upon their vast experience and research as consultants and leadership coaches to deliver a ground-breaking guide to enhancing your performance in your life and career.

Book excerpt: Thrown into their past by failed attempts to weaponize time, a small fleet of stranded future warships struggles to stop millennia of war and suffering before it starts, helping to guide us into a peaceful, technologically advanced future. To their growing frustration, we, their distant ancestors, seem determined to resist that vision. Then, success! They defeat the enemy who first attacks earth, but he is not where and when he was supposed to be. How can that be? Has history changed? Or was their history wrong? All of their plans rely on that history! Frustration builds and conflict grows as they struggle to find a path forward while the planet gets worse and worse. They know another attack is imminent, it must be, their history says so. But they can’t do it alone and they can’t rely on the planet. Some argue to take over outright, using their growing military power to impose order, exploiting the population’s growing populism to take over. Others say they should reach out to their long-time allies, involving them in a struggle for their survival much earlier. To make things worse, after decades of ignoring the signs, some people on the planet begin to suspect something is going on. Sure they are alone in the universe, they turn to their enemies on Earth. Tensions rise as fear and populism push the planet closer to the brink. Then history changes again …. The second book in the Circle of Time series, this book continues the struggle to save Humanity.
