Book Presenting Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley

Download or read book Presenting Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley written by Henry Lightfoot and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02-07 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley are the most popular presenting team on British TV today, and with their new role as hosts of ITV's Daybreak, the revamped GMTV, it looks like their stars are continuing to rise. Chiles had been fronting BBC's The One Show since it was first aired in 2006, but when Bleakley joined the following year it quickly became clear that they were a magical combination. For almost three years they thrilled audiences and, with their easy banter and laid-back style, they made The One Show a firm favourite in the early evening schedule. This fascinating biography studies the careers of the presenters -- from Bleakley's childhood in Northern Ireland and first job in radio, to Chiles' rise through the ranks, presenting Working Lunch, The Apprentice: You're Fired! and Match of the Day 2. It examines what exactly it is that makes them what can only be described as a dream team.

Book excerpt: Marty Morrissey - GAA broadcaster extraordinaire and one of the hardest-working people in show business - has been to every corner of Ireland (and a few interesting ones further afield) in his illustrious career. Everywhere he goes, he makes friends and hears terrific stories - and sometimes he becomes a character in them. Now he's sharing them with us, in a book full of his trademark warmth, wit and energy. Starting with his childhood in the Bronx and west Clare, Marty introduces us to the people and places that have mattered most to him. He takes us through his adventures as a Gaelic footballer and hurler, schoolteacher, and coach of schools teams and underage sides for his beloved club, Kilmurry Ibrickane. And he tells the story of his remarkable rise as a broadcaster, from the back of tractors and trailers flatbed trucks to Croke Park on All Ireland finals days - despite having being told by RTÉ Sport that his voice on an early audition tape was 'too thin, too high-pitched'. Now, having established himself as a beloved figure across the full spectrum of the Irish airwaves, Marty is ready to show us who he really is. It's Marty! is an invitation to join the Marty Party, a rollicking ride through contemporary Irish life and sport, from a true national treasure. _______________________ 'There's a lot of craic and a lot of warmth in it' Newstalk 'Fantastic!' 2FM Breakfast 'A really good read . . . honest and really funny' Miriam O'Callaghan

Crowned at twenty-five, she was already a wife and mother as she began her journey towards becoming a queen. As Britain lifted itself out of the shadow of war, the new monarch faced her own challenges. Her mother doubted her marriage; her uncle-in-exile derided her abilities; her husband resented the sacrifice of his career and family name; and her rebellious sister embarked on a love affair that threatened the centuries-old links between the Church and the Crown. This is the story of how Elizabeth II drew on every ounce of resolve to ensure that the Crown always came out on top. Written by the show’s historical consultant, royal biographer Robert Lacey, and filled with beautifully reproduced archival photos and show stills, The Crown: The Official Companion: Volume 1 adds expert and in-depth detail to the events of the series, painting an intimate portrait of life inside Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street. Here is Elizabeth II as we’ve never seen her before.

Book excerpt: ‘A very readable history of the British way of life viewed through its homes’ Choice Magazine In recent years house histories have become the new frontier of popular, participatory history. People, many of whom have already embarked upon that great adventure of genealogical research, and who have encountered their ancestors in the archives and uncovered family secrets, are now turning to the secrets contained within the four walls of their homes and in doing so finding a direct link to earlier generations. And it is ordinary homes, not grand public buildings or the mansions of the rich, that have all the best stories. As with the television series, A House Through Time offers readers not only the tools to explore the histories of their own homes, but also a vividly readable history of the British city, the forces of industry, disease, mass transportation, crime and class. The rises and falls, the shifts in the fortunes of neighbourhoods and whole cities are here, tracing the often surprising journey one single house can take from an elegant dwelling in a fashionable district to a tenement for society’s rejects. Packed with remarkable human stories, David Olusoga and Melanie Backe-Hansen give us a phenomenal insight into living history, a history we can see every day on the streets where we live. And it reminds us that it is at home that we are truly ourselves. It is there that the honest face of life can be seen. At home, behind closed doors and drawn curtains, we live out our inner lives and family lives.
