Book Introduction to Prescribed Fire in Southern Ecosystems

Download or read book Introduction to Prescribed Fire in Southern Ecosystems written by Thomas A. Waldrop and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2018-03-29 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prescribed burning is an important tool throughout Southern forests, grasslands, and croplands. The need to control fire became evident to allow forests to regenerate. This manual is intended to help resource managers to plan and execute prescribed burns in Southern forests and grasslands. A new appreciation and interest has developed in recent years for using prescribed fire in grasslands, especially hardwood forests, and on steep mountain slopes. Proper planning and execution of prescribed fires are necessary to reduce detrimental effects, such as the impacts on air and downstream water quality. Book Prescribed Fire for Maintaining Fuel breaks in the Central Sierra Nevada

Download or read book Prescribed Fire for Maintaining Fuel breaks in the Central Sierra Nevada written by Harry E. Schimke and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel-breaks are being built in central California as part of a program aimed at preventing or controlling disaster fires. This report considers and answers such questions as: When should burning be done? What factors must be considered? How should burning be done? and what are the costs?

Book Global Application of Prescribed Fire

Download or read book Global Application of Prescribed Fire written by John R. Weir and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2022-02 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Application of Prescribed Fire provides a first-hand perspective of the various methods and ways people around the world view and use prescribed fire. It covers the logistics, constraints and social dynamics surrounding the intentional use and application of fire by humans, and demonstrates how, why, when and where prescribed fire is used in different regions. Written by international experts, the book has four key objectives: explore new techniques, ideas and thoughts on how to apply prescribed fire from a global perspective; provide regional case studies covering issues that may constrain or enhance prescribed fire projects; stimulate cross-cultural conversations about how fires function in ecosystems; and relate prescribed fire to wildfire regimes with implications for protecting life and property, as well as sustaining local fire cultures and unique fire-dependent flora and fauna. Global Application of Prescribed Fire enhances our understanding and knowledge about the application of prescribed fire. This comprehensive book will provide fire practitioners, researchers, agencies and policymakers with key ecological and managerial insight of how prescribed fires are conducted around the globe.

Book Smoke from Prescribed Burning

Download or read book Smoke from Prescribed Burning written by Joel Viers and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large wildfires threaten forests and humans alike. Thinning and controlled burning can address many of the forest health and community safety concerns. However, the smoke generated during these burns can be a nuisance, a public health issue, and can have other consequences. As more acres are burned, the public will be faced with more smoke in the air. It is important to understand the importance of and the reasoning behind low-intensity burning, and the issues associated with it. Particularly in the west United States, public forestlands are overgrown and we are confronted with a choice between smaller amounts of smoke more often, or large amounts of smoke less frequently each of these choices carries trade-offs and long-term consequences.
