Book Standard Guidance for the Preparation of Quality Assurance Project Plans

Download or read book Standard Guidance for the Preparation of Quality Assurance Project Plans written by Russell H. Plumb and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the mission to conceive and execute civil works projects in the nation's waterways. Projects relating to this mission are subject to various environmental regulations that require the collection of environmental data for project planning, design, construction, and operation. These data-collection processes must be performed under controlled conditions to be legally defensible. An effective quality assurance (QA) plan is needed to meet these requirements. in response to the need for a guidance document to assist Corps personnel with the preparation of QA project plans, a task group met and recommended the preparation of a single standardized approach that would be applicable to all civil works data-collection programs. This guidance report was prepared in response to this recommendation.

Book Risk Engineering

Download or read book Risk Engineering written by A.V. Gheorghe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial development is essential to improvement of the standard of living in all countries. People's health and the environment can be affected, directly or indirectly by routine waste discharges or by accidents. A series of recent major industrial accidents and the effect of pollution highlighted, once again, the need for better management of routine and accidental risks. Moreover, the existence of natural hazards complicate even more the situation in any given region. In the past effort to cope with these risks, if made at all, have been largely on a plant by plant basis; some plants are well equipped to manage environmental and health hazards, while others are not. Managing the hazards of modern technological systems has become a key activity in highly industrialised countries. Decision makers are often confronted with complex issues concerning economic and social development, industrialisation and associated infrastructure needs, population and land use planning. Such issues have to be addressed in such a way that ensures that public health will not be disrupted or substantially degraded. Due to the increasing complexity of technological systems and the higher geographical density of punctual hazard sources, new methodologies and a novel approach to these problems are challenging risk managers and regional planers. Risks from these new complex technological systems are inherently different form those addressed by the risk managers for decades ago.

Book Coordination Breakdown Management in Surgical Units

Download or read book Coordination Breakdown Management in Surgical Units written by Svetlena Taneva and published by Svetlena Taneva. This book was released on 2011-05-11 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communication and coordination breakdowns represent the leading cause of adverse events in healthcare. This is especially true in the operating room environment - the wrong patient may be operated on, the wrong procedure may be performed, or consideration of specific patient information may be missed in surgery planning, preparation and execution. This book presents an in-depth study of the impact of breakdowns on surgical work in two large urban hospitals. The focus of analysis is set beyond teamwork dynamics to include system level communication and coordination processes. The book presents a breakdown detection method as a first step in the management of breakdowns. The knowledge acquired through a series of hospital studies is also translated into system design guidelines tailored to the requirements of the surgical setting.
