Book The Future of Christian Marriage among the Igbo vis a vis Childlessnes

Download or read book The Future of Christian Marriage among the Igbo vis a vis Childlessnes written by Augustus Chukwuma Izekwe and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marriage was ordained by God for the good of spouses and for procreation. But how often does marriage turn out to bring unhappiness to partners! And how often do even happy marriages end up childless! Among the Igbo of South-eastern Nigeria, to whom offspring is the chief goal of marriage, childlessness leads often to unhappiness in marriage and not less often to the break-up of marriages or to polygamy. In this work, the author expounds the importance of marriage and its practice among the Igbo. He explains the importance of children in Igbo understanding of marriage and identifies childlessness as the key factor which could endanger (and sometimes do endanger) the Igbo acceptance of the Catholic doctrine of the indissolubility of marriage. Using the relevant clauses of the Code of Canon Law, the author explains in detail the Catholic understanding of marriage and the goals of the catholic doctrine on marriage. He writes of the possibility of marriage impediments due to impotence and sterility (that lead to childlessness) and recommends not only a thorough pre-marriage preparation but also a continual formation of marriage couples as efforts that could check the increasing rate of divorce and polygamy due to childlessness. But the author knows that childlessness can still occur despite all precautions. He therefore recommends adoption (instead of polygamy) as the ultimate panacea to childlessness in marriage. The author condemns in unmistakable terms the mentality among the Igbo which blames and traumatizes the woman in cases of childlessness.

Book Doing Ministry in the Igbo Context

Download or read book Doing Ministry in the Igbo Context written by Cajetan E. Ebuziem and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2011 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doing Ministry in the Igbo Context: Towards an Emerging Model and Method for the Church in Africaarises out of reflection on experience and practice. The volume reflects on the author's own cultural context, religious heritage, and pastoral functioning. In addition, it considers the author's personal experiences in relation to the common experiences of others within the author's cultural and religious traditions and places these experiences and the voices they represent into mutually critical correlation. Thus, commonalities and dissonances in them emerge leading to insights where to go from there in providing ministry to the People of God in the "local church" context and still within the framework of one universal church. This book presents a contextual model of local theology that begins its reflection with the Igbo cultural context. The Igbo or Nigerian or African Church can have a pattern of ministry with a model and a method that are consistent with the peoples' values. To accomplish this goal a local cultural value must be explored and brought into the scene. Since the Igbo society is the heart of Christianity and Catholicism in Africa, the author relies on Igboland as his situational context. The exploration of the indigenous Igbo value of collaboration will be an advantage in ministering to the rest of the African people who have cultural resemblances to Igbos. The African Church has to learn from the Igbo values ofumunna bu ike. Umunnais the basic Igbo unit, and possibly the most powerful missionary force in Igboland, and potentially an Igbo gift to the Church in Nigeria and Africa, and even beyond. -- Back cover.

Book From What We Should Do to Who We Should Be

This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HIV/AIDS constitutes a global problem. A good number of scholars from different nationalities, multiple rationalities, religious sensibilities, theological intelligibilities and ethical, cultural, and ecclesiastical backgrounds have affirmed that this worldwide quagmire constitutes a global health problem and social malady which does not have a well-defined geographically limited spread. The global nature of HIV/AIDS as seen in the statistics does not however undermine the fact that the effects of this sickness are not felt proportionally from one nation to another. This book proposes to situate the local as a veritable site of empowerment for communities dealing with HIV/AIDS, as it is the case with the African continent. The author of this book, over and above the way the problem of HIV/AIDS has been constructed, projected, and reviewed, decided to situate this epidemic of the 20th Century within the socio-cultural and political context of the Nigerian nation with particular reference to the Igbo people. The task of contextualizing this problem reveal the identity of the author as an Igbo, and as a theologian, who engages the indigenous ethical principles, unsophisticated traditional wisdom, cultural and religious values of his people in offering solutions that resonate the cultural identity of his people in dialogue with modern and post-modern constructs.

Download or read book The Reception of the Second Vatican Council s Liturgical Reforms in Nigeria Nsukka Diocese written by Uchenna Aba and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2016 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty years after the promulgation of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, a great moment has dawned in which a more dispassionate assessment of the reception of this important document has become imperative in order to enable the Church to undertake necessary steps in realizing the full potential of the renewal envisaged by the Council Fathers. The present study identifies peculiar and diverse challenges confronting the process of reception in the Nsukka Diocese/Nigerian Church today. However, the author acknowledges that the full reception of Sacrosanctum Concilium is still a work-in-progress. Uchenna Aba is a Catholic priest in Nsukka, Nigeria, and currently the Chaplain of St. Martin's Parish, Goch, Diocese of Muenster, Germany. Dissertation. Book The Relationship Hermeneutics in the Context of Pastoral and Catechesis Locus for Dialogue with Culture in the Missio Ecclesiae

Download or read book The Relationship Hermeneutics in the Context of Pastoral and Catechesis Locus for Dialogue with Culture in the Missio Ecclesiae written by Kingsley Anagolu and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2019 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authority-oriented pastoral/catechetical planning method, which characterizes the African mission transmission, has been problematic as it subtly neglects in its pedagogy the culture and daily life of the subject. Hence, the people operate a Christian/cultural double standard. This book proffers an alternative as the author makes the concept of the relationship hermeneutics model to a creative writing that aims towards an empirical application in the theology of inculturation, which is a subject-oriented and dialogical method that draws its strength from the incarnation prototype.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The necessity for inculturation in theology today, cannot be overstressed. It is absolutely necessary if the Church is to be in the position to offer to all peoples the mystery of salvation and the fullness of life brought by God in Christ. Inculturation demands that the revelation takes root in the culture in order to become part and parcel of the people's life pattern and to be in turn enriched by the cultural values of the people. Although the fullness of revelation took place in time, space, and culture, it is not exclusively tied up to any particular culture, race or time. Revelation cuts across all boundaries, and it is open to receive all and be received by all cultures. As the life of the Church is seen in the liturgy, the tasks facing liturgy today are quite enormous. Liturgy must seek authentic means of creating a worshipping community through the celebration of the mysteries of Christ: the Eucharist, the Sacraments, Liturgy of the hours and Sacramentals. As a holy people of God, the faithful are entitled to a liturgy that is at their disposition. They need to understand what they celebrate and participate actively in it. They require as a matter of necessity a liturgy that transforms the inner realities of their being and the entire humanity. The process of achieving this great goal constitutes the main bulk of this work. In effect, this book contains a representation of some cultural reactions to and enrichment of the reformed liturgy of the Second Vatican Council en route in Africa

Book Omumu the Igbo Life value

Download or read book Omumu the Igbo Life value written by Peter Chidi Okuma and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1998 a group of scholars with Catholic, Anglican and Jewish background gathered at a symposium to review Humanae vitae 30 years after its publication. On the 40-year anniversary of Humanae vitae in 2008, the issues raised in that controversial encyclical letter still border and affect humans especially in the light of modern scientific and biotechnological development. This book is a contribution to that debate in the sense of being unbiased and from an African perspective meant to balance the «sense and insensibilities» from both polarities of the world. It is an X-ray through a hermeneutical-anthropological «Weltanschauung» (worldview) of the Igbo of Southeastern Nigeria.
