Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by Andrew D. Ketsdever and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2003-05-19 with total page 1118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in these proceedings were peer reviewed. The RGD Symposia are highly inter-disciplinary and encompass all aspects of rarefaction and non-equilibrium phenomena in gases. Rarefied flow phenomena include the mechanics and physics of low density gases and the analysis of flows which take place on a spatial scale comparable to the mean free path of a gas. Topics covered include: Kinetic theory and transport theory; numerical methods including direct simulation Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics; gas-surface phenomena; nano- and microscale flows; molecular beams, atom and molecular optics; clusters and aerosols; external flows including space and vacuum technologies; plume flows; hypersonic flows; molecular collision dynamics; relaxation processes; ionized gas flows; physics of the space environment; plasma processing; experimental techniques; diagnostics including laser induced fluorescence and electron beams; applications. With the increase in space activities and microfabrication capabilities, new themes have emerged including rarefied hypersonic flows, non-equilibrium gases, plasma processing, nano- and micro-scale flows at relatively high pressures, along with parallel and hybrid computational developments. Because the RGD Symposia are recognized as the principle forum for the presentation of recent advances in this field, it is a must for engineers and scientists in a variety of specialties.

Download or read book Hypersonic Vehicles written by Giuseppe Pezzella and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some sixty years after the experimental flights of the North American X-15 hypersonic rocket-powered aircraft, sustained hypervelocity travel is still the next frontier in high-speed transportation. Today, there is much excitement and interest regarding hypersonic vehicles. In fact, many aerospace agencies, large industries, and several start-ups are involved in design activities and experimental campaigns both in wind tunnels and in-flight with full-scale experimental flying test beds and prototypes to make hypersonic travel almost as easy and convenient as airliner travel. Achieving this goal will radically revolutionize the future of civil transportation. This book contains valuable contributions that focus on various design issues related to hypersonic aircraft.
Download or read book Hypersonic Aerothermodynamics written by John J. Bertin and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A modern treatment of hypersonic aerothermodynamics for students, engineers, scientists, and program managers involved in the study and application of hypersonic flight. It assumes an understanding of the basic principles of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, compressible flow, and heat transfer. Ten chapters address: general characterization of hypersonic flows; basic equations of motion; defining the aerothermodynamic environment; experimental measurements of hypersonic flows; stagnation-region flowfield; the pressure distribution; the boundary layer and convective heat transfer; aerodynamic forces and moments; viscous interactions; and aerothermodynamics and design considerations. Includes sample exercises and homework problems. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Download or read book Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics written by John David Anderson and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained text for those students and readers interested in learning hypersonic flow and high-temperature gas dynamics. It assumes no prior familiarity with either subject on the part of the reader. If you have never studied hypersonic and/or high-temperature gas dynamics before, and if you have never worked extensively in the area, then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you have worked and/or are working in these areas, and you want a cohesive presentation of the fundamentals, a development of important theory and techniques, a discussion of the salient results with emphasis on the physical aspects, and a presentation of modern thinking in these areas, then this book is also for you. In other words, this book is designed for two roles: 1) as an effective classroom text that can be used with ease by the instructor, and understood with ease by the student; and 2) as a viable, professional working tool for engineers, scientists, and managers who have any contact in their jobs with hypersonic and/or high-temperature flow.
Download or read book Vision and Voyages for Planetary Science in the Decade 2013 2022 written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-01-30 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, planetary science has seen a tremendous growth in new knowledge. Deposits of water ice exist at the Moon's poles. Discoveries on the surface of Mars point to an early warm wet climate, and perhaps conditions under which life could have emerged. Liquid methane rain falls on Saturn's moon Titan, creating rivers, lakes, and geologic landscapes with uncanny resemblances to Earth's. Vision and Voyages for Planetary Science in the Decade 2013-2022 surveys the current state of knowledge of the solar system and recommends a suite of planetary science flagship missions for the decade 2013-2022 that could provide a steady stream of important new discoveries about the solar system. Research priorities defined in the report were selected through a rigorous review that included input from five expert panels. NASA's highest priority large mission should be the Mars Astrobiology Explorer Cacher (MAX-C), a mission to Mars that could help determine whether the planet ever supported life and could also help answer questions about its geologic and climatic history. Other projects should include a mission to Jupiter's icy moon Europa and its subsurface ocean, and the Uranus Orbiter and Probe mission to investigate that planet's interior structure, atmosphere, and composition. For medium-size missions, Vision and Voyages for Planetary Science in the Decade 2013-2022 recommends that NASA select two new missions to be included in its New Frontiers program, which explores the solar system with frequent, mid-size spacecraft missions. If NASA cannot stay within budget for any of these proposed flagship projects, it should focus on smaller, less expensive missions first. Vision and Voyages for Planetary Science in the Decade 2013-2022 suggests that the National Science Foundation expand its funding for existing laboratories and establish new facilities as needed. It also recommends that the program enlist the participation of international partners. This report is a vital resource for government agencies supporting space science, the planetary science community, and the public.
