This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have measured production of[pi][sup[+-]], [Kappa][sup[+-]], [ital p]/[ital[bar p]], [Kappa][sup 0] and[Lambda][sup 0]/[bar[Lambda]][sup 0] as a function of momentum in inclusive hadronic[ital Z][sup 0] decay events and separately in events containing primary light-([ital uds]) and[ital b]-quarks. The SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector was used to identify charged pions, kaons, and protons over most of the available momentum range 0.8[lt][ital p][lt]33 GeV/c. The neutral[Kappa][sup 0][sub s] and[Lambda][sup 0] were reconstructed using the[pi][sup+][pi][sup -] and[ital p][pi][sup -] decay modes, respectively. We present the first comparisons of momentum of charged tracks measured in the SLD Vertex Detector. Substantial differences are observed, consistent with the kinematics of[ital B]-hadron production in Z[sup 0] decays and the properties of[ital B]-hadron decays as measured at lower energies.

This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production rates and momentum distributions have been measured for[pi][sup[+-]], K[sup[+-]], p, K[sup 0][sub s], [Lambda][sup 0], K[sup*0] and[phi] in 150,000 hadronic Z[sup 0] decays recorded by the SLD detector at the SLD collider at SLAC. The analysis uses the SLD Cerenkov Ring Imaging Detector (CRID) for clean and efficient identification of charged tracks and significant background reduction. In addition, K[sup*0] production has been studied in quark and anti-quark jet samples, which were identified by their electroweak forward backward asymmetries using the SLD high electron beam polarization. A difference between the two samples is observed in the K[sup*0] rate at high momentum, consistent with leading particle and strangeness suppression hypotheses.

Book A Study of K sub S Lambda and bar Lambda Production in Hadronic Z sup 0 Decays

Download or read book A Study of K sub S Lambda and bar Lambda Production in Hadronic Z sup 0 Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a preliminary measurement of the inclusive production rates of K[sub s], A and X hadrons produced in e[sup +]e[sup [minus]] annihilation at the Z[sup 0] pole. The analysis is based upon approximately 50K Z[sup 0] decays collected in the SLD experiment at SLAC in 1993. The observed rates of (K[sub s]) = 1.02 [plus-minus] 0.02 [plus-minus] 0.09 and ([Lambda]) + ([bar [Lambda]]) = 0.38 [plus-minus] 0.01 [plus-minus] 0.04 are consistent with previous measurements. Our differential cross section peak-position results are shown to be consistent with QCD predictions based on the modified leading logarithm approximation and local parton-hadron duality.

Download or read book The Production of pi sup K sup P K and Lambda in Hadronic Z Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have measured production fractions and spectra for [pi]{sup {+-}}, K{sup {+-}} and p, and production spectra for K° and [Lambda]° in both hadronic Z° decays and a Z° → light quark (uds) subset at SLD. The SLD Cherenkov Ring Imaging Detector was used to identify charged hadrons. The CCD vertex detector was used to select the enriched uds sample. For the global sample, the results are consistent with previous experiments. The authors observe a clear flavor dependence in production spectra, but only a small effect in hadron fractions and [xi] = ln(1/x{sub p}) peak positions.

Book A Study of Correlations Between Charged Pi K and P in Hadronic Z0 Decays

Download or read book A Study of Correlations Between Charged Pi K and P in Hadronic Z0 Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a preliminary study of correlations in rapidity between pairs of identified charged pions, kaons and protons in the SLD data. Details of short-range charge correlations between all combinations of these hadron species are used to study the locality of quantum number conservation, and suggest local charge ordering along the entire hadronization chain. A strong long-range K[sup+]-K[sup -]correlation is observed at high-momentum and weaker long-range[pi][sup+]-[pi][sup -], [pi][sup+]-K[sup -] and p-K[sup -] and p[bar p] correlations are observed in light flavor events, providing new information on leading particle production in u, d and s jets. The long-range correlations observed in c[bar c] and b[bar b] events are markedly different and consistent with expectations based on known decay properties of the leading heavy hadrons. The SLC electron beam polarization is used to tag the quark hemisphere in each event, allowing the first study of rapidities signed relative to the quark (vs. antiquark) direction. Distributions of ordered, signed rapidity differences provide a new probe of the fragmentation process, including the first direct observation of baryon number ordering along the q[yields][bar q] axis.

Book The pi sup emission Puzzle in 4 Over Lambda He Decay

Download or read book The pi sup emission Puzzle in 4 Over Lambda He Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The observed [pi][sup +] emission from the weak decay of 4 over [Lambda] He has long been an intriguing puzzle. Experimentally, the [pi][sup +] to [pi][sup [minus]] ratio for 4 over [Lambda] He decay is about 5%. Because mesonic decay modes of the free [Lambda] ([yields] p + [pi][sup [minus]], n + [pi][sup 0]) produce no [pi][sup +]s, more complicated mechanisms must be responsible for the [pi][sup +] decay of 4 over [Lambda] He. Dalitz and von Hippel explored two-body decay processes of the type: (1) [Lambda] [yields] [pi][sup 0] + n decay followed by a [pi][sup 0] + p [yields] [pi][sup +] + n charge-exchange reaction, and (2) [Sigma][sup +] [yields] [pi][sup +] + n decay following a [Lambda] + p [yields] [Sigma][sup +] + n conversion. They concluded that neither process could account for even a 1% [pi][sup +] + n decay as a p-wave process ruled out the promising explanation coming from von Hippel's calculations, which had found that s-wave [Sigma][sup +] decay might yield a sufficiently high rate. Cieply and Gal re-examined the charge-exchange contribution and concluded that, although up-to-date input parameters yield a 1.2% branching ratio, the charge-exchange mechanism cannot account for the experimental value of about 5%.

Download or read book PRELIMINARY STUDY OF D0 K PI PI0 DECAYS WITH DALITZ PLOTS written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle physicists study the smallest particles and most basic rules of their interactions in humankind's current scope. The Charm Analysis Working Group (CWG) of the BaBar Collaboration studies decays involving the charm quark. They currently study mixing in D decays, an interesting and poorly understood phenomenon in current physics models. We, as part of the CWG, investigated the plausibility of using Dalitz plots and the BaBar analysis framework to study mixing in Wrong Sign (WS) D[sup 0][yields] K[pi][pi][sup 0] decays. Others in the CWG have studied mixing in the 2-body decay, D[sup 0][yields] K[pi]. The 3-body decay analyzed with the RooFitDalitz analysis package and Dalitz plots provides more information and another way of separating Doubly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays (DCSD) from mixing--which share the same end products. Through doing many simulations, we have demonstrated the usefulness of this approach. We selected D[sup 0][yields] K[pi][pi][sup 0] events from Simulation Production run No. 4 (SP4) and BaBar's run 1 and run 2. We made Dalitz plots with this data. Now that we better understand Dalitz plots and software, we plan to select WS D[sup 0][yields] K[pi][pi][sup 0] events and perform rate fits as discussed in BaBar Analysis Document (BAD) No. 443, as well as fits for several different decay times and resonances, in order to further distinguish DCSD from mixing.

Download or read book Analysis of D0 K Pi Pi0 Decays written by Michael Galante Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0} decays, herein are presented the methods and results of a search for D{sup 0}-{bar D}{sup 0} mixing, a measurement of the branching ratio R {equivalent_to} {Lambda}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0})/{Lambda}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0}), and measurements of the contributions from D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{rho}{sup -}, K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}, K*{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}; 230.4 fb{sup -1} of data collected from the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider during 2000-2004 (Runs 1-4) are analyzed. An event-level tagging technique is developed, which facilitates the accurate determination of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed resonance contributions by suppressing background from Cabibbo-favored decays. The branching ratio is measured as R = (0.214 {+-} 0.008 (stat) {+-} 0.008 (syst))%, with (46.1 {+-} 3.3 (stat) {+-} 2.9 (syst))% of D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0} decays proceeding through the channel D{sup 0} {yields} K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}. The data are consistent with the null-D-mixing hypothesis at a confidence level of 10%, and the expected value of {+-} {radical}(x{sup 2} + y{sup 2}) is measured as -0.013 {+-} 0.010 (stat), indicating negative interference between mixing and doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay. The expected value of the integrated mixing rate is (x{sup 2} + y{sup 2})/2 = (0.013 {+-} 0.013 (stat))%.

Book The pi sup Decay of Light Hypernuclei

Download or read book The pi sup Decay of Light Hypernuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The observed [pi][sup +] emission from the weak decay of the [sup 4][sub [Lambda]]He hypernucleus has been an intriguing puzzle for more than 30 years, because the Lambda decays in free space only by emission of a [pi][sup [minus]] or a [pi][sup 0]. We re-examine this puzzling weak decay with our focus upon a decay mechanism involving the [Sigma][sup +]N [r-arrow] [pi][sup +]nN decay of a virtual [Sigma][sup +], stemming from [Lambda]N to [Sigma]N conversion (mixing) within the hypernucleus. We emphasize the observed energy distribution of the observed [pi][sup +]s compared to that of [pi][sup -]s in standard mesonic decay as well as the isotropic angular distribution of the [pi] [sup +]s. Competing suggestions to explain the positive pion weak decay have been offered. A possible search for [pi][sup +] decay from the other [Lambda] hypernuclei is explored as means to test our hypothesis.
