Book Field Trials of Health Interventions

Download or read book Field Trials of Health Interventions written by Peter G. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access title available under the terms of a CC BY-NC 4.0 International licence. It is free to read at Oxford Scholarship Online and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. Before new interventions are released into disease control programmes, it is essential that they are carefully evaluated in field trials'. These may be complex and expensive undertakings, requiring the follow-up of hundreds, or thousands, of individuals, often for long periods. Descriptions of the detailed procedures and methods used in the trials that have been conducted have rarely been published. A consequence of this, individuals planning such trials have few guidelines available and little access to knowledge accumulated previously, other than their own. In this manual, practical issues in trial design and conduct are discussed fully and in sufficient detail, that Field Trials of Health Interventions may be used as a toolbox' by field investigators. It has been compiled by an international group of over 30 authors with direct experience in the design, conduct, and analysis of field trials in low and middle income countries and is based on their accumulated knowledge and experience. Available as an open access book via Oxford Medicine Online, this new edition is a comprehensive revision, incorporating the new developments that have taken place in recent years with respect to trials, including seven new chapters on subjects ranging from trial governance, and preliminary studies to pilot testing.

Book A Preliminary Investigation of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Small Inclined Air Outlets at Transonic Mach Numbers

Download or read book A Preliminary Investigation of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Small Inclined Air Outlets at Transonic Mach Numbers written by Paul E. Dewey and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aerodynamic characteristics of several outlets with inclined or curved axes discharging air into a transonic stream have been investigated. The data presented herein show the discharge coefficient of such outlets and the static-pressure distribution in the vicinity of the outlets for several values of stream Mach number and discharge flow parameter. Tuft observations, showing the vortex formations caused by the outlet discharge from a perpendicular and an inclinded outlet, are also presented.

Book Preliminary Investigation of the Compressive Strength and Creep Lifetime of 2024 T3 formerly 24S T3 Aluminum alloy Plates at Elevated Temperatures

Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of the Compressive Strength and Creep Lifetime of 2024 T3 formerly 24S T3 Aluminum alloy Plates at Elevated Temperatures written by Eldon E. Mathauser and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of elevated-temperature compressive strength and creep tests of 2024-T3 (formerly 24S-T3) aluminum-alloy plates supported in V-grooves are presented. For determining elevated-temperature strength, where creep effects are negligible, a relation previously developed for predicting plate compressive strength at room temperature was satisfactory. Creep-lifetime results are presented for the plates in the form of master creep-lifetime curves by using a time-temperature parameter that is convenient for summarizing tensile creep-rupture data. A comparison is made between tensile and compressive creep lifetime for the plates, and the magnitude by which the design stress is decreased because of material creep and loss of strength due to exposure at elevated temperatures is indicated.

Book Preliminary Investigation of Shield to Improve Angle of attack Performance of Nacelle type Inlet

Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of Shield to Improve Angle of attack Performance of Nacelle type Inlet written by Milton A. Beheim and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted at Mach numbers between 1.6 and 2.0 on the use of a shield along the upper-half periphery of the cowl of a conical inlet to improve performance at angle of attack. The best results were obtained with the shield mounted in such a manner that an air gap existed between the shield and the cowl lip. Zero-angle-of-attack performance was not appreciably affected. At an angle of attack of 8 degrees distortion was about half that without the shield, and subcritical stability was improved.

Book Preliminary Investigation of a Paraglider

Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of a Paraglider written by Francis Melvin Rogallo and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary investigation of the aerodynamic and control characteristics of a flexible glider similar to a parachute in construction has been made at the Langley Research Center to evaluate its capabilities as a reentry glider. Preliminary weight estimates of the proposed vehicle indicate that such a structure can be made with extreamly low wing loading. Maximum temperatures during the reentry maneuver might be held as low as about 1,500 degrees F.
