Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to help practitioners and students in a wide range of construction project management professions to understand what building information modelling (BIM) and big data could mean for them and how they should prepare to work successfully on BIM-compliant projects and maintain their competencies in this essential and expanding area. In this book, the state-of-the-art information technologies that support high-profile BIM implementation are introduced, and case studies show how BIM has integrated core quantity surveying and cost management responsibilities and how big data can enable informed decision-making for cost control and cost planning. The authors' combined professional and academic experience demonstrates, with practical examples, the importance of using BIM and particularly the fusion of BIM and big data, to sharpen competitiveness in global and domestic markets. This book is a highly valuable guide for people in a wide range of construction project management and quantity surveying roles. In addition, implications for project management, facilities management, contract administration, and dispute resolution are also explored through the case studies, making this book essential reading for built environment and engineering professionals.

Book Preliminary Cost Estimating for Highway Construction Projects

Download or read book Preliminary Cost Estimating for Highway Construction Projects written by Albert F Kaminsky (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary cost estimating procedure was developed using historical highway construction project bid data for the State of Alabama Highway Department (AHD). The preliminary cost estimating procedure developed requires only project length and preliminary engineering estimates of material quantity to calculate a project cost. This procedure has specific application in estimating future project costs for budgeting purposes. The procedure developed relied upon the fact that ninety percent of the bid total cost was comprised on one-third or less of the bid pay items. The dominance of a bid by specific pay items applies to large and small projects alike. The geographic location within the State of Alabama has a negligible effect upon the cost estimating procedure. The application of the preliminary cost estimating procedure to three distinctly different types of construction projects examined in this research confirm its usefulness. The preliminary cost estimating procedure developed for the AHD is workable and can be applied to a wide range of highway construction and maintenance projects. (Author).

Book Estimating in Heavy Construction

Download or read book Estimating in Heavy Construction written by Dieter Jacob and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theoretical background as well as best practice examples of estimating in heavy construction. The examples stem from practitioners in international large-scale construction projects. As distinct from other publications on estimating, this book presents specific numbers and costs are calculated precisely. In this way the book helps to avoid errors in the estimating of construction projects like roads, bridges, tunnels, and foundations.

Book The Design of Experiments

Download or read book The Design of Experiments written by R. Mead and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-07-26 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all the experimental sciences, good design of experiments is crucial to the success of research. Well-planned experiments can provide a great deal of information efficiently and can be used to test several hypotheses simultaneously. This book is about the statistical principles of good experimental design and is intended for all applied statisticians and practising scientists engaged in the design, implementation and analysis of experiments. Professor Mead has written the book with the emphasis on the logical principles of statistical design and employs a minimum of mathematics. Throughout he assumes that the large-scale analysis of data will be performed by computers and he is thus able to devote more attention to discussions of how all of the available information can be used to extract the clearest answers to many questions. The principles are illustrated with a wide range of examples drawn from medicine, agriculture, industry and other disciplines. Numerous exercises are given to help the reader practise techniques and to appreciate the difference that good design of experiments can make to a scientific project.
