Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last 20 years, fundamental design concepts and advanced computer modeling have revolutionized process design for chemical engineering. Team work and creative problem solving are still the building blocks of successful design, but new design concepts and novel mathematical programming models based on computer-based tools have taken out much of the guess-work. This book presents the new revolutionary knowledge, taking a systematic approach to design at all levels.

Book Applied Chemical Process Design

Download or read book Applied Chemical Process Design written by F. Aerstin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of a new chemical plant or process from concept evaluation to profitable reality is often an enormously complex problem. Generally, a plant-design project moves to completion through a series of stages which may include inception, preliminary evaluation of economics and market, data development for a final design, final economic evaluation, detailed engineering design, procurement, erection, startup, and pro duction. The general term plant design includes all of the engineering aspects involved in the development of either a new, modified, or expanded industrial plant. In this context, individuals involved in such work will be making economic evaluations of new processes, designing individual pieces of equipment for the proposed new ventures, or developing a plant layout for coordination of the overall operation. Because of the many design duties encountered, the engineer involved is many times referred to as a design engineer. If the latter specializes in the economic aspects of the design, the individual may be referred to as a cost engineer. On the other hand, if he or she emphasizes the actual design of the equipment and facilities necessary for carrying out the process, the individual may be referred to as a process design engineer. The material presented in this book is intended to aid the latter in developing rapid chemical designs without becoming unduly involved in the often complicated theoretical underpinnings of these useful notes, charts, tables, and equations.

Book The Art of Chemical Process Design

Download or read book The Art of Chemical Process Design written by G. L. Wells and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1986 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrating all aspects of chemical process design, this book demonstrates process synthesis, material and heat balancing by manual and computerised methods, the use of flowsheeting programs and their construction, flowsheet development, plant safety, process economics and project engineering. The reader is introduced to each of the key areas and is given further information to follow these up. The process is developed as a whole entity with appropriate partitioning of certain tasks. In recent years, there has been increased activity in process synthesis, particularly in the development of heat exchanger networks and distillation trains. Various chapters describe and develop these and other areas of interest. In particular, note is made of the need to select appropriate unit operations for given process tasks. Traditional manual methods of material and heat balancing introduce the computerised methods used in flowsheeting programs. Plant safety continues to generate professional and public interest as catastrophes continue to occur. The recent developments in this area are described.
