Book Quantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington University

Download or read book Quantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington University written by David Emmick and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-11-04 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Validity coefficients of predictors of graduate school success at Western Washington University fall in the range of .2 to .4 typically found in similar studies. Data from 2,323 students for the period 1976 and 1980 were analyzed. The correlation with GGPA was .19 for GREA; .05 for GREQ; .10 for GREV; .14 for MAT; and, .34 for VGPA. Correlations for selected subpopulations show some increase in the correlation coefficients over the total group. Subgroup correlations are compared with median correlations from previous studies. The MAT and GREV have high correlations with each other and correlate similarly with other variables. The MAT and GREV would appear to be equivalent measures. In an attempt to enlarge on the meaning of success, two criterion variables, GGPA and TIME, were analyzed. A canonical correlation of .34 (redundancy =.055) was found between these criteria and the group of predictors: GREA, GREV, GREQ, MAT, UGPA.

Book Factors Influencing Professional Success in the Master of Science in Applied Psychology

Download or read book Factors Influencing Professional Success in the Master of Science in Applied Psychology written by Joel T. Mueller and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is empirically unknown what student behaviors are predictive of post-graduate professional success. The purpose of this study is to explore the predictors that determine post-graduate professional success within the University of Wisconsin-Stout's Master of Science in Applied Psychology (MSAP) program. The present research used prospective and archival data from 52 former students who have been previously enrolled in the MSAP. Various factors were considered when defining the composition of post-graduate professional success including time to graduate, time to secure a job, salary, and occupational prestige. Although no singular student activity can be attributed for the degree to which a student is successful after graduation, it was hypothesized that student professionalism, student involvement and admissions criteria would have statistical relationships with and be predictors of post-graduate professional success. Student professionalism was hypothesized to be the greatest predictor of post-graduate professional success. However, the interaction between student professionalism and involvement was also essential for producing successful post-graduate students. The present research recommends that the MSAP continues to assess professionalism and focuses on providing and guiding students with low professionalism opportunities to become involved in activities such as internships, practicums, committees/organizations/groups, or extracurricular research.
