Book Predicting NCLEX RN Failure in a Pre licensure Baccalaureate Nursing Program

Download or read book Predicting NCLEX RN Failure in a Pre licensure Baccalaureate Nursing Program written by Meagan Riley Rogers and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduates of pre-licensure baccalaureate nursing programs must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, or NCLEX-RN®. First-time pass rates are the primary quality indicator for nursing programs. National pass rates are approximately 90% and schools falling below 85% face funding and accreditation risks. Schools of nursing have adopted stringent admission and progression policies based on predictors of licensure success. However, there is a gap in the current body of evidence associated with predictors of NCLEX-RN® failure. Nursing programs using predictors of success for admission and progression decisions are shutting the door of opportunity on students who could be successful if given the opportunity. The purpose of this dissertation is to develop a model that predicts NCLEX-RN® failure to guide nursing program policy and intervention for at-risk nursing students.

Book Predictors of Academic Success for Undergraduate Nursing Students and Graduates

Download or read book Predictors of Academic Success for Undergraduate Nursing Students and Graduates written by Claudia Dean Horton and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The independent variables are demographics, prenursing science course grades, grades in junior and senior nursing courses and GPAs calculated at specific points in the educational process. The best variables to predict graduation are three junior level nursing courses, the junior level GPA, and the GPA of all nursing courses. For predicting passing NCLEX, the best predictors are ExitExams (the integration of scores earned on the Mosby's RN AssessTest and the RN Comprehensive Predictor exam), the junior level GPA, and the cumulative college GPA. Neither demographic variables, nor prenursing science course grades, nor the number of C grades earned in nursing courses were predictive of graduation or of passing NCLEX.

Book Predictors of Early Academic Success and Program Completion Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students

Download or read book Predictors of Early Academic Success and Program Completion Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT ALDEN, KATHRYN RHODES. Predictors of Early Academic Success and Program Completion Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students. (Under the direction of Duane Akroyd.) The Nursing Undergraduate Retention and Success (NURS) Model (Jeffreys, 2004) was the theoretical framework for a study that examined the predictive value of selected cognitive (cumulative GPA, science GPA, science credits, previous degree, reading comprehension, math skill), noncognitive (stress), and demographic (age, ethnicity) student profile characteristics on the early academic success and on-time program completion of baccalaureate nursing students. The sample consisted of 370 BSN students at a public university in the Southeast. Data were collected from an existing student database. The dependent variable, early academic success, was based on grades in nursing courses during the first two semesters. The dependent variable, program completion, was measured as on-time graduation at the end of six semesters or graduation being delayed or denied. Three of the independent variables (reading comprehension, math skill, and stress) were measures from the Nurse Entrance Test. The results of logistic regression analysis showed that for the model predicting early academic success (Ï! = 57.76, p

Book Prediction of Success in Baccalaureate Nursing Education in a Private Christian University

Download or read book Prediction of Success in Baccalaureate Nursing Education in a Private Christian University written by Cynthia A. McGuire and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to determine which nursing school entrance requirements and nursing school performance indicators best predict student performance in the nursing program at Bob Jones University. Part of successful nursing education is to carefully identify the students who have sufficient academic ability to complete the work in a rigorous course of study. This study is important because it can help to validate the current entrance requirements in this nursing program and also to ascertain whether any changes need to be made. Revising the entrance requirements, based on the findings from a careful research study, should lead to increased success in the nursing program and on the NCLEX-RN. In addition, no matter what the entrance requirements are, it is inevitable that students will be admitted into the nursing clinical courses who later demonstrate weaknesses that indicate a high risk for failure in the program and on the NCLEX-RN. Early remediation strategies with these students can increase the probability of their success. This study intends to use both the entrance requirements and nursing school performance indicators to identify those students, as early as possible in the nursing program, who will most benefit from early remediation. - Introduction.

Book Baccalaureate Nursing Student Success on the First Attempt of the NCLEX RN Exam

Download or read book Baccalaureate Nursing Student Success on the First Attempt of the NCLEX RN Exam written by Phillip J. Moore and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to determine if success on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) was correlated with a specific combination of academic variables. A retrospective, nonexperimental correlation design was utilized, which included both descriptive and inferential statistical procedures to determine positive correlation. Data was collected from the academic records of baccalaureate nursing students (N=225) who attended and completed the traditional and accelerated programs between 2005 and 2009. Independent academic variables included both prerequisite and nursing courses, as well as prerequisite, nursing and cumulative GPAs and ATI RN predictor test score. Eighteen of the 30 independent variables were found to correlate with NCLEX-RN success. Among those 18 correlating variables seven were noted to have a stronger correlation. Understanding the aspects of a nursing program that demonstrates correlation provides the nursing students, educators, and the profession as a whole opportunity to increase the possibility of success.
