Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this jOint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 40 (thesis year 1995) a total of 10,746 thesis titles from 19 Canadian and 144 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 40 reports theses submitted in 1995, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Design and Tests of a Six stage Axial flow Compressor Having a Tip Speed of 550 Feet Per Second and a Flat Operating Characteristic at Constant Speed

Download or read book Design and Tests of a Six stage Axial flow Compressor Having a Tip Speed of 550 Feet Per Second and a Flat Operating Characteristic at Constant Speed written by Willard R. Westphal and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A six-stage axial-flow compressor with a tip speed of 550 feet per second and a flat operating characteristics at constant speed has been designed and tested. It was designed for a constant power input per pound of flow in expectation that this would result in a wider mass-flow operating range at a given stagnation-presssure ratio. The design specific weight flow was 21.3 pounds per second per square foot of frontal area at atmospheric discharge with a stagnation-pressure ratio of 3.25 and an inlet hub-tip radius ratio of 0.7. Several configurations consisting of various blade setting angles and solidities were tested. Tests showed that the design flow, pressure ratio, and flat operating characteristic were obtained over a range of 10 percent of design flow at a peak efficiency of 82 percent for design conditions. The compressor had a possible immediate application for air removal from a large slotted-throat transonic wind tunnel, but the design theory could apply to any low-speed industrial compressor or second spool of a turbojet engine.

Book A Wide Range Axial Flow Compressor Stage Performance Model

Download or read book A Wide Range Axial Flow Compressor Stage Performance Model written by Gregory S. Bloch and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic compression system response is a major concern in the operability of aircraft gas turbine engines and computer models have been developed to predict compressor response to changing operating conditions. These models require a knowledge of the steady-stage operating characteristics as inputs, which limits the ability to use them as predicting tools. The full range of dynamic axial flow compressor operation spans forward and reversed flow conditions. A model for predicting the wide flow range characteristics of axial flow compressor stages has been developed and a parametric study of the effect of changing design variables on steady-state performance has been conducted. The model was applied to a 3-stage, low-speed compressor with very favorable results and to a 10-stage, high-speed compressor with mixed results. Conclusions were made regarding the inception of stalling and the effects associated with operating a stage in a multistage environment. It was also conclude that there are operating points of an isolated compressor stage that are not attainable when that stage is operated in a multistage environment.
