Book A Wind tunnel Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Predicting Static Stability and Control Characteristics of Flexible Aircraft

Download or read book A Wind tunnel Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Predicting Static Stability and Control Characteristics of Flexible Aircraft written by Irving Abel and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation of analytical techniques for predicting certain stability and control characteristics of a large flexible aircraft is presented. Analytical methods based on both the model approach and flexibility influence coefficients are developed to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of a flexible airplane. These methods are then applied to a flexibly scaled model of a supersonic transport configuration. Comparisons of wind-tunnel data, calculations based on the model approach, and flexibility influence coefficients are presented over the Mach number range from 0.6 to 2.7. An examination of the results obtained from this study indicates that both analytical techniques predict reasonably well the effect of flexibility on the basic longitudinal characteristics and that both techniques give generally comparable results.

Book Aerodynamic Design of Transport Aircraft

Download or read book Aerodynamic Design of Transport Aircraft written by Ed Obert and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the demise of Fokker in 1996 one feared that interest in aeronautical engineering would strongly diminish. Two years later the situation was re-appraised, and the interest in aeronautical engineering remained, so the course was reinstated. This title includes the author's lecture notes from these courses.

Book Advanced Aircraft Flight Performance

Download or read book Advanced Aircraft Flight Performance written by Antonio Filippone and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 665 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses aircraft flight performance, focusing on commercial aircraft but also considering examples of high-performance military aircraft. The framework is a multidisciplinary engineering analysis, fully supported by flight simulation, with software validation at several levels. The book covers topics such as geometrical configurations, configuration aerodynamics and determination of aerodynamic derivatives, weight engineering, propulsion systems (gas turbine engines and propellers), aircraft trim, flight envelopes, mission analysis, trajectory optimisation, aircraft noise, noise trajectories and analysis of environmental performance. A unique feature of this book is the discussion and analysis of the environmental performance of the aircraft, focusing on topics such as aircraft noise and carbon dioxide emissions.

Book Investigation of Methods for Predicting the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Two lobed Parawing

Download or read book Investigation of Methods for Predicting the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Two lobed Parawing written by M. R. Mendenhall and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study seeks to develop accurate methods for predicting the longitudinal aerodynamic characteristics of two-lobed conical parawings with leading-edge booms for high aspect ratios and high slackness. For prediction purposes, the assumption was made that the booms and canopy can be considered separately. The canopy was then considered to have a known shape for purposes of determining its aerodynamic performance. Various theoretical methods were studied for determining canopy aerodynamic characteristics, including profile drag, Force increments due to the leading-edge booms were studied both analytically and empirically.

Book Investigation of the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Model Wing propeller Combination and of the Wing and Propeller Separately at Angles of Attack Up to 90

Download or read book Investigation of the Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Model Wing propeller Combination and of the Wing and Propeller Separately at Angles of Attack Up to 90 written by John W. Draper and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of an investigation conducted in the Langley 300 mph 7- 10-foot wind tunnel for the purpose of determining the aerodynamic characteristics of a model wing-propeller combination, and of the wing and propeller separately at angles of attack up to 90 degrees. The tests covered thrust coefficients corresponding to free-stream velocities from zero forward speed to the normal range of cruising speeds. The results indicate that increasing the thrust coefficient increases the angle of attack for maximum lift and greatly diminishes the usual reduction in lift above the angle of attack for maximum lift.
