Book Predicting Software Development Cost for Command and Control Systems

Download or read book Predicting Software Development Cost for Command and Control Systems written by Anthony W. Fife and published by . This book was released on 2001-03 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, the Department of Defense (DoD) has relied upon commercial software estimating tools. However, these tools are somewhat unreliable when it comes to estimating military systems, particularly Command and Control Systems. The purpose of this study was to develop a parametric model using linear regression to estimate software development costs for DoD Command and Control systems. The developed model is unique in a few ways. First, the model is derived from Department of Defense command and control data. Second, while traditional models require volumes of variables to create estimates, the developed model only requires a few key variables to estimate the amount of effort necessary to complete a project. The key variables were selected through analyzing common variables used in software cost estimating.

Book Costs Aspects of Computer Programming for Command and Control

Download or read book Costs Aspects of Computer Programming for Command and Control written by Leonard Farr and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes one aspect of an ARPAsponsored project to develop improved management techniques for computer programming in command and control systems--the problem of cost estimation. The report states that although cost estimation is an important prerequisite for effective programming management, program estimates have historically been very unreliable. It discusses some of the underlying causes of the cost estimation problem and identifies about fifty factors that appear to contribute to cost. The report gives some data concerning the effects of some of the factors upon cost. (Author).

Book Cost Reporting for Development of Information Processing Systems

Download or read book Cost Reporting for Development of Information Processing Systems written by Edward A. Nelson and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes a system for the collecting and reporting on data on the resources expended in the production of computer programs. The system is intended to: (1) provide information to facilitate management control during the progress of a computer programming effort; (2) build a data bank from which better cost-estimating relationships and planning tools can be developed; (3) accomplish the above with a minimum of interference with operating personnel. The report was designed to provide sample materials necessary for the implementation of cost reporting in any organization in which computer programming is performed; it includes a description of the steps that constitute the computer programming process, the kinds of personnel who would be involved in the cost-collection and -reporting system, a recommended work flow and suggested forms for use in data collection and reporting, a work breakdown structure for associating costs with activities, and a brief discussion of the relationship of this system with several existing Department of Defense management procedures.

Book Software Cost Estimation and Sizing Methods

Book Software Acquisition Management Guidebook Cost Estimation and Measurement

Download or read book Software Acquisition Management Guidebook Cost Estimation and Measurement written by Marsha Finfer and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Software Cost Estimation and Measurement guidebook is designed to assist Air Force personnel who are responsible for estimating and controlling the costs of embedded software within command, control, and communications systems. It provides a basic understanding of the current methodologies used in the formation of Air Force and contractor software cost estimates. Insight is provided into some of the problems (and reasons for the problems) associated with software cost estimates made by both Government and industry. The guidebook discusses the role of parametric models used in cost estimation and reviews three experimental predictive models. It also discusses the process of monitoring software costs and schedules while providing guidance to relevant military regulations, specifications, standards, and supporting literature. Much of the information and guidance provided is applicable to smaller less complex systems, but in all cases, it should be tailored to the needs of individual projects. (Author).

Book Software Cost Estimation Benchmarking and Risk Assessment

Download or read book Software Cost Estimation Benchmarking and Risk Assessment written by Adam Trendowicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software effort estimation is a key element of software project planning and management. Yet, in industrial practice, the important role of effort estimation is often underestimated and/or misunderstood. In this book, Adam Trendowicz presents the CoBRA method (an abbreviation for Cost Estimation, Benchmarking, and Risk Assessment) for estimating the effort required to successfully complete a software development project, which uniquely combines human judgment and measurement data in order to systematically create a custom-specific effort estimation model. CoBRA goes far beyond simply predicting the development effort; it supports project decision-makers in negotiating the project scope, managing project risks, benchmarking productivity, and directing improvement activities. To illustrate the method’s practical use, the book reports several real-world cases where CoBRA was applied in various industrial contexts. These cases represent different estimation contexts in terms of software project environment, estimation objectives, and estimation constraints. This book is the result of a successful collaboration between the process management division of Fraunhofer IESE and many software companies in the field of software engineering technology transfer. It mainly addresses software practitioners who deal with planning and managing software development projects as part of their daily work, and is also of interest for students or courses specializing in software engineering or software project management.
