Download or read book Gas and Particle Phase Measurements of Atmospheric Organic Compounds written by Douglas A. Lane and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is becoming increasingly important to understand how and why semivolatile atmospheric pollutants partition between gas phase and particulate matter in the atmosphere. In this text the world's leading researchers in the field explain the significance of gas/particle ratios; physical and chemical parameters determining how semivolatiles partition in the atmosphere; how gas/particle ratio measurements are made; what artefacts occur during sampling; and novel new techniques and instruments for obtaining artefact-free results. Intended to be a reference book and a guide for those who study the gas/particle ratios of semivolatile atmospheric compounds. This book will be of interest to beginners in the field as well as those who have been involved in the field for many years and would like, in a single reference text, a comprehensive compendium of what is known about the theory and practice of gas/particle phase measurements.

Book Adsorption Analysis Equilibria And Kinetics With Cd Containing Computer Matlab Programs

Download or read book Adsorption Analysis Equilibria And Kinetics With Cd Containing Computer Matlab Programs written by Duong D Do and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-09-22 with total page 915 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers topics of equilibria and kinetics of adsorption in porous media. Fundamental equilibria and kinetics are dealt with for homogeneous as well as heterogeneous particles. Five chapters of the book deal with equilibria and eight chapters deal with kinetics. Single component as well as multicomponent systems are discussed. In kinetics analysis, we deal with the various mass transport processes and their interactions inside a porous particle. Conventional approaches as well as the new approach using Maxwell-Stefan equations are presented. Various methods to measure diffusivity, such as the Differential Adsorption Bed (DAB), the time lag, the diffusion cell, chromatography, and the batch adsorber methods are also covered by the book. It can be used by lecturers and engineers who wish to carry out research in adsorption. A number of programming codes written in MatLab language are included so that readers can use them directly to better understand the behavior of single and multicomponent adsorption systems.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thougtit that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 31 (thesis year 1986) a total of 11 ,480 theses titles trom 24 Canadian and 182 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base tor these titles reported will greatly enhance the value ot this important annual reterence work. While Volume 31 reports theses submitted in 1986, on occasion, certain univer sities do re port theses submitted in previousyears but not reported at the time.

Book Two Dimensional Modelling of Volatile Organic Compounds Adsorption in a Fixed Bed Adsorber

Download or read book Two Dimensional Modelling of Volatile Organic Compounds Adsorption in a Fixed Bed Adsorber written by Dereje Tamiru Tefera and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this research two-dimensional mathematical models were developed to study adsorption of single component volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and competitive adsorption of n-component mixtures of VOCs from dilute gas streams in a fixed-bed adsorber. The models consist of the macroscopic mass, energy and momentum conservation equations and isotherm equations. Langmuir isotherm was used for single component VOC adsorption, while a new multicomponent isotherm model was derived to predict adsorption equilibria of VOCs mixture from single component isotherm data. The models were validated with experiments wherein deviation between measured and modeled data was quantified using the mean absolute relative error (MARE). The single component adsorption model predicted the breakthrough curves of the tested VOCs (acetone, benzene, toluene and 1, 2, 4-trimethylbenzene as well as the pressure drop and temperature during benzene adsorption with MRAE of 2.6, 11.8, and 0.8%, respectively. The model also showed very good sensitivity to the changes in operations variables such as temperature and superficial velocity of the carrier gas, channeling, and adsorbent particle size. The competitive adsorption model predicted the breakthrough profiles of binary and eight-component VOCs mixtures with 13 and 12%, MRAE respectively while that of the adsorbed amounts was 1 and 2%, respectively. These results indicate the accuracy of the models to simulate a fixed bed adsorber and their potential to be used for enhancing absorber design and optimization.

Download or read book Gas Adsorption Equilibria written by Jürgen U. Keller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-23 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to present for the first time experimental methods to measure equilibria states of pure and mixed gases being adsorbed on the surface of solid materials. It has been written for engineers and scientists from industry and academia who are interested in adsorption based gas separation processes and/or in using gas adsorption for characterization of the porosity of solid materials. This book is the result of a fruitful collaboration of a theoretician (JUK) and an experimentalist (RS) over more than twelve years in the field of gas adsorption systems at the Institute of Fluid- and Thermodynamics (IFT) at the University of Siegen, Siegen, Germany. This collaboration resulted in the development of several new methods to measure not only pure gas adsorption, but gas mixture or coadsorption equilibria on inert porous solids. Also several new theoretical results could be achieved leading to new types of so-called adsorption isotherms based on the concepts of molecular association and – phenomenologically speaking – on that of thermodynamic phases of fractal dimension. Naturally, results of international collaboration of the authors over the years (1980-2000) also are included.
