Book Precision Electroweak Physics with the SLD SLC

Download or read book Precision Electroweak Physics with the SLD SLC written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following a brief review of a commonly used general framework for the analysis of radiative corrections and possible new physics, the recent precision results from the SLD/SLC are discussed and used to test the standard electroweak model. In the 1993 SLD/SLC run, the SLD recorded 50,000 Z events produced by the collision of longitudinally polarized electrons on unpolarized positrons at a center-of-mass energy of 91.26 GeV. The luminosity-weighted average polarization of the SLC electron beam was (63.0 ± 1.1)%. We measure the left-right cross-section asymmetry in Z boson production, A{sub LR}, to be 0.1628 ± 0.0071 (stat) ± 0.0028 (syst) which determines the effective weak mixing angle to be sin2 [theta]{sub W}{sup eff} = 0.2292 ± 0.0009 (stat) ± 0.0004 (syst). When averaged with our 1992 result, we obtain sin2 [theta]{sub W}{sup eff} = 0.2294 ± 0. 0010. This result differs from analogous LEP results at the level of about 2.5 [sigma]. The world averages of electroweak data are comfortably in agreement with the standard model.

Book Precision Electroweak Physics at Electron Positron Colliders

Download or read book Precision Electroweak Physics at Electron Positron Colliders written by Stefan Roth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This up-to-date volume reviews the recent contributions of electron-positron colliders to the precision test of the electroweak Standard Model. In particular, it contains a short summary of the measurements at the Z resonance and gives an overview of the electroweak processes above the Z. Subsequently, the measurement of the W mass at LEP is discussed in detail. The implications for the precision test of the Standard Model are presented, giving the status of the global electroweak fit before the startup of Large Hadron Collider. The final chapters give an outlook on the electroweak physics at a future linear collider. The book also features many illustrations and tables. Readers obtain a coherent overview of the results of 20 years of electroweak physics conducted at electron-positron colliders.

Book Electroweak Precision Tests at LEP

Download or read book Electroweak Precision Tests at LEP written by Wolfgang Hollik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review gives a brief discussion of the structure of the Standard Model and its quantum corrections. The predictions for the vector boson masses, the neutrino scattering cross-sections and the Z0 resonance observables are presented. The influence of virtual new physics effects on the observables is discussed with the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model taken as an example. Experimental measurements of electroweak observables are described with reference to studies performed at the e+e- collider LEP at energies close to the Z0 peak. The theoretical predictions are compared with experimental data and their implications for the Standard Model are discussed.

Book Electroweak Results from the SLD Experiment

Download or read book Electroweak Results from the SLD Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an overview of the electroweak physics program of the SLD experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). A data sample of 550K Z° decays has been collected. This experiment utilizes a highly polarized electron beam, a small interaction volume, and a very precise pixel vertex detector. It is the first experiment at a linear electron collider. We present a preliminary result for the weak mixing angle, sin2([theta]{sub W}{sup eff}) = 0.23110 ± 0.00029. We also present a preliminary result for the parity violating parameter, A{sub b} = 0.898 ± 0.029. These measurements are used to test for physics beyond the Standard Model.

Download or read book Precision Tests of the Standard Electroweak Model written by Paul Langacker and published by World Scientific Publishing Company Incorporated. This book was released on 1994-10-31 with total page 950 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and the properties of the Z and W bosuns have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the programme are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results and prospects.

Book Electroweak Physics at the LHC

Download or read book Electroweak Physics at the LHC written by Matthias U. Mozer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-24 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book discusses the recent experimental results obtained at the LHC that involve electroweak bosons. The results are placed into an appropriate theoretical and historical context. The work pays special attention to the rising subject of hadronically decaying bosons with high boosts, documenting the state-of-the-art identification techniques and highlighting typical results. The text is not limited to electroweak physics in the strict sense, but also discusses the use of electroweak vector-bosons as tool in the study of other subjects in particle physics, such as determinations of the proton structure or the search for new exotic particles. The book is particularly well suited for graduate students, starting their thesis work on topics that involve electroweak bosons, as the book provides a comprehensive description of phenomena observable at current accelerators as well as a summary of the most relevant experimental techniques.

Book Electroweak Physics at LEP and LHC

Download or read book Electroweak Physics at LEP and LHC written by Arno Straessner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-31 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During more than 10 years, from 1989 until 2000, the LEP accelerator and the four LEP experiments, ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, have taken data for a large amount of measurements at the frontier of particle physics. The main outcome is a thorough and successful test of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. Mass and width of the Z and W bosons were measured precisely, as well as the Z and photon couplings to fermions and the couplings among gauge bosons. The rst part of this work will describe the most important physics results of the LEP experiments. Emphasis is put on the properties of the W boson, which was my main research eld at LEP. Especially the precise determination of its mass and its couplings to the other gauge bosons will be described. Details on physics effects like Colour Reconnection and Bose-Einstein Correlations in W-pair events shall be discussed as well. A conclusive summary of the current electroweak measurements, including low-energy results, as the pillars of possible future ndings will be given. The important contributions from Tevatron, like the measurement of the top quark and W mass, will round up the present day picture of electroweak particle physics.

Book Highlights of the SLD Physics Program at the SLAC Linear Collider

Download or read book Highlights of the SLD Physics Program at the SLAC Linear Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting in 1989, and continuing through the 1990s, high-energy physics witnessed a flowering of precision measurements in general and tests of the standard model in particular, led by ee− collider experiments operating at the Z° resonance. Key contributions to this work came from the SLD collaboration at the SLAC Linear Collider. By exploiting the unique capabilities of this pioneering accelerator and the SLD detector, including a polarized electron beam, exceptionally small beam dimensions, and a CCD pixel vertex detector, SLD produced a broad array of electroweak, heavy-flavor, and QCD measurements. Many of these results are one of a kind or represent the world's standard in precision. This article reviews the highlights of the SLD physics program, with an eye toward associated advances in experimental technique, and the contribution of these measurements to our dramatically improved present understanding of the standard model and its possible extensions.
