Book Precise Measurement of the Neutron Magnetic Form Factor from Quasielastic 3 rvec H e rvec E E

Download or read book Precise Measurement of the Neutron Magnetic Form Factor from Quasielastic 3 rvec H e rvec E E written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polarized 3He targets have proven to be a useful tool for studying the electric and magnetic form factors of the neutron, and the spin structure of the neutron. The neutron magnetic form factor at low Q2 was determined previously at MIT-Bates from the quasielastic 3{ital {rvec H}e({rvec e}, e{sup '})} process. New experiment was planned at TJNAF to systematically measure the inclusive 3He quasielastic transverse asymmetry, A{sub T{sup '}}, at Q2 = 0.1 - 0.5 (GeV/c)2 with high statistical and systematic accuracy. A 2% statistical uncertainty is aimed at all the pro- posed values of Q2, and 3% systematic uncertainty for A{sub T{sup '}} can be achieved for this experiment. The precise data will constrain theoretical calculations of 3He quasielastic asymmetry. Furthermore, the neutron magnetic form factor at Q2 = 0.1 - 0.5 (GeV/c)2 will be extracted from the measured asymmetries with an overall uncertainty of 2%. Precise measurements of {ital G{sup n}{sub M}} at low Q2 will resolve the discrepancy among the existing data in the same Q2 region.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 34003 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have measured the transverse asymmetry A{sub T'} in the quasi-elastic 3/rvec He/(/rvec e/, e') process with high precision at Q2-values from 0.1 to 0.6 (GeV/c)2. The neutron magnetic form factor G{sub M}(superscript n) was extracted at Q2-values of 0.1 and 0.2 (GeV/c)2 using a non-relativistic Faddeev calculation which includes both final-state interactions (FSI) and meson-exchange currents (MEC). Theoretical uncertainties due to the FSI and MEC effects were constrained with a precision measurement of the spin-dependent asymmetry in the threshold region of 3/rvec He/(/rvec e/, e'). We also extracted the neutron magnetic form factor G{sub M}(superscript n) at Q2-values of 0.3 to 0.6 (GeV/c)2 based on Plane Wave Impulse Approximation calculations.

Book A Precise Measurement of the Neutron Magnetic Form Factor GMn in the Few GeV2 Region

Download or read book A Precise Measurement of the Neutron Magnetic Form Factor GMn in the Few GeV2 Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The neutron elastic magnetic form factor GMn has been extracted from quasielastic electron scattering data on deuterium with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. The kinematic coverage of the measurement is continuous from Q2=1 GeV2 to 4.8 GeV2. High precision was achieved by employing a ratio technique in which many uncertainties cancel, and by a simultaneous in-situ calibration of the neutron detection efficiency, the largest correction to the data. Neutrons were detected using the CLAS electromagnetic calorimeters and the time-of-flight scintillators. Data were taken at two different electron beam energies, allowing up to four semi-independent measurements of GMn to be made at each value of Q2. The dipole parameterization is found to provide a good description of the data over the measured Q2 range.

Download or read book Measurements of the Neutron Electric to Magnetic Form factor Ratio G En written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 25205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report values for the neutron electric to magnetic form factor ratio, G{sub En}/G{sub Mn}, deduced from measurements of the neutron's recoil polarization in the quasielastic 2H({rvec e}, e(prime){rvec n}) 1H reaction, at three Q2 values of 0.45, 1.13, and 1.45 (GeV/c)2. The data at Q2 = 1.13 and 1.45 (GeV/c)2 are the first direct experimental measurements of GEn employing polarization degrees of freedom in the Q2> 1 (GeV/c)2 region and stand as the most precise determinations of GEn for all values of Q2.

Book A Measurement of the Neutron Electric Form Factor at Very Large Momentum Transfer Using Polaried Electrions Scattering from a Polarized Helium 3 Target

Download or read book A Measurement of the Neutron Electric Form Factor at Very Large Momentum Transfer Using Polaried Electrions Scattering from a Polarized Helium 3 Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge of the electric and magnetic elastic form factors of the nucleon is essential for an understanding of nucleon structure. Of the form factors, the electric form factor of the neutron has been measured over the smallest range in Q2 and with the lowest precision. Jefferson Lab experiment 02-013 used a novel new polarized 3 He target to nearly double the range of momentum transfer in which the neutron form factor has been studied and to measure it with much higher precision. Polarized electrons were scattered off this target, and both the scattered electron and neutron were detected. Gn E was measured to be 0.0242 ± 0.0020(stat) ± 0.0061(sys) and 0.0247 ± 0.0029(stat) ± 0.0031(sys) at Q2 = 1.7 and 2.5 GeV2, respectively.

  • Pages : 440 pages

Download or read book The Nucleon Optical Model written by Peter Edward Hodgson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleon optical model is widely used to calculate the elastic scattering cross-sections and polarisations for the interaction of neutrons and protons with atomic nuclei. The optical model potentials not only describe the scattering but also provide the wave functions needed to analyse a wide range of nuclear reactions. They also unify many aspects of nuclear reactions and nuclear structure. This book consists of a comprehensive introduction to the subject and a selection of papers by the author describing the optical model in detail. It contains full references to the original literature with many examples of the application of the model to the analysis of experimental data.

Book Vibronic Interactions Jahn Teller Effect in Crystals and Molecules

Download or read book Vibronic Interactions Jahn Teller Effect in Crystals and Molecules written by Michael D. Kaplan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based mostly on the reports presented at the XVth International lahn-Teller Symposium on Vibronic Interactions in Crystals and Molecules and NATO Advanced Research Workshop Colossal Magnetoresistance and Vibronic Interactions that took place at Boston on August 16-22 of the year 2000. This is the first time the Symposium took place in the USA where recently the giant splash of the attention to the 1 ahn-Teller effect occurred. This tremendous interest to the field all over the world is reflected not only in the numerous publications in many American and European 10urnals, but of the leading scientists from additionally in the Symposium's participation the well known Universities, National Laboratories and industrial companies, which was the largest in the history of the Symposium. The renaissance of the 1ahn-Teller physics is closely related to the three fundamental discoveries in science. The most significant among them is the discovery of high-Tc superconductivity by K. -A. Muller and G. Bednorz, for whom the "1ahn-Teller idea" was the motivation in their search. The result of this search is well known - a wide spectrum of the 1ahn-Teller ion based materials with Tc between 24K and 135K were found. The second discovery is the existence of a new polymorph of carbon - the C60. The microscopic analysis of all physical, chemical and biological properties of the buckyballs is based on 1ahn-Teller type of interactions. The third is colossal magnetoresistance.
