Book Catalysis by Precious Metals Past and Future

Download or read book Catalysis by Precious Metals Past and Future written by Marcela Martinez Tejada and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The future of the precious metals is shiny and resistant. Although expensive and potentially replaceable by transition metal catalysts, precious metal implementation in research and industry shows potential. These metals catalyze oxidation and hydrogenation due to their dissociative behavior toward hydrogen and oxygen, dehydrogenation, isomerization, and aromatization, etc. The precious metal catalysts, especially platinum-based catalysts, are involved in a variety of industrial processes. Examples include Pt–Rh gauze for nitric acid production, the Pt/Al2O3 catalyst for cyclohexane and propylene production, and Pd/Al2O3 catalysts for petrochemical hydropurification reactions, etc. A quick search of the number of published articles in the last five years containing a combination of corresponding “metals” (Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh and Au) and “catalysts” as keywords indicates the importance of the Pt catalysts, but also the continuous increase in the contribution of Pd and Au. This Special Issue reveals the importance of precious metals in catalysis and focuses on mono- and bi-metallic formulations of any supported precious metals and their promotional catalytic effect of other transition metals. The application of precious metals in diverse reactions, either homogeneous or heterogeneous, and studies of the preparation, characterization, and applications of the supported precious metal catalysts, are presented.

Book Precious Metals 1982

Download or read book Precious Metals 1982 written by M.I. El Guindy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precious Metals 1982 presents the variety of technical innovations in the application of precious metals. This book discusses the advances in recovery and refining and analysis of precious metals. Organized into 10 parts encompassing 47 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the fundamental experiments to elicit the mode of solidification for a small casting using the investment casting method. This text then describes the various medical uses of silver and its salts with the antibacterial properties of silver ions used in burn therapy, water purification, and to prevent infections. Other chapters consider the practical feasibility of a process involving the reaction of oxygen with gold particles in a potassium cyanide solution to produce potassium gold cyanide. This book discusses as well the major catalytic applications of the precious metals. The final chapter deals with fraud involving gold. This book is a valuable resource for engineers, metallurgists, geologists, jewelers, and goldsmiths.

Book Catalysis of Organic Reactions

Download or read book Catalysis of Organic Reactions written by Michael L. Prunier and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-12-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apply an Omnibus of Knowledge from Leaders in the Field The unexpected diversity of topics presented at previous gatherings forced organizers of 2008’s 22nd Conference on Catalysis of Organic Reactions to expand its format to reflect the remarkable current degree of specialization in the field. Catalysis of Organic Reactions contains a compilation of papers presented at the event, and subsequently, few books will be able to match the breadth and depth of its content. Featuring papers by respected scientists from academia, industry, and the governmental research-and-development sector, it covers various aspects of the production, sale, and use of catalysts for practical purposes. Articles concentrate on the general area of catalyzed synthesis, emphasizing the production of organic chemicals. With a focus on application rather than theory, the dominant theme is the traditionally practiced area of heterogeneous catalysis. Topics include: Hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis C-C coupling Amination and oxidation (including the precious metal, supported base metal, and sponge metal, Raney process, and homogeneous catalyst types) End uses of products, including industrial petrochemicals, fine chemicals, and pharma intermediates Those working with applied catalysis will benefit greatly from this consolidation of insights and reviews of the latest developments in the field. Each of the papers presented were edited by ORCS members, drawn from both academia and industry, and peer-reviewed by experts in related fields of study.
