A large body of data, however, appears to deviate from the predictions of both approaches. Some general remarks are made concerning the problem of pre-compound decay'', and then the Monte Carlo simulation, Boltzmann equation, and exciton model are described in moderate detail. The models are intercompared, and the present situation and prospects are sketched. (13 figures) (RWR).
