Book Praxeology as a Challenge

Download or read book Praxeology as a Challenge written by Anna Herbert and published by Waxmann Verlag. This book was released on 2013 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question, 'how to do things with words?' (John L. Austin) could characterize the field of pedagogy in general, if not also practices, structural and material aspects had to be taken into account. The empirical question how social practices constitute a (binding) reality comes close to the praxeological perspective. On one side, 'praxeology' is a specific methodological approach to explore practices empirically. On the other side, it covers philosophical or sociological theories of action regarding sociality as generated by social practices and contextual structures. Practices are supposed to transmit, constitute and create ?establish e.g. social orders. The focus lies on corporal, performative and emergent aspects of the practices. All the mainly empirical studies in this volume deal with the praxeological question how sociality is generated in dynamic and relational actions in a pedagogical frame.

Book excerpt: 2021 Hardcover Reprint of the 1949 Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "Human Action: A Treatise on Economics" is the first comprehensive treatise on economics written by a leading member of the modern Austrian school of economics. Von Mises' contribution was very simple, yet at the same time extremely profound: he pointed out that the whole economy is the result of what individuals do. Individuals act, choose, cooperate, compete, and trade with one another. In this way Mises explained how complex market phenomena develop. Mises did not simply describe economic phenomena - prices, wages, interest rates, money, monopoly and even the trade cycle - he explained them as the outcomes of countless conscious, purposeful actions, choices, and preferences of individuals, each of whom was trying as best as he or she could under the circumstances to attain various wants and ends and to avoid undesired consequences. Hence the title Mises chose for his economic treatise, "Human Action."

Book Action and Reaction in the World System

Download or read book Action and Reaction in the World System written by Thierry de Montbrial and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book occupies the same niche as Raymond Aron’s 1962 classic, Peace and War: A Theory of International Relations. While Aron wrote during the Cold War, Thierry de Montbrial writes about the post-Soviet international system, a system that is multipolar, ideologically heterogeneous, and therefore highly unstable. In this book, de Montbrial lays the foundation for a praxeology, or a “science of action,” to facilitate a better understanding of the dynamics of international problems and a more systematic approach to policy making. He develops a model to analyze different types of international problems that arise from interactions between different “active units,” which he then applies to a range of current and historical problems. A major contribution to international relations theory and winner of the 2002 Georges Pompidou Prize in its original French edition, this book offers the necessary keys to decrypt the international system in the twenty-first century. It has been published internationally in seven languages.

Book International Practice Theory

Download or read book International Practice Theory written by Christian Bueger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Practice Theory is the definitive introduction to the practice turn in world politics, providing an accessible, up-to-date guide to the approaches, concepts, methodologies and methods of the subject. Situating the study of practices in contemporary theory and reviewing approaches ranging from Bourdieu’s praxeology and communities of practice to actor-network theory and pragmatic sociology, it documents how they can be used to study international practices empirically. The book features a discussion of how scholars can navigate ontological challenges such as order and change, micro and macro, bodies and objects, and power and critique. Interpreting practice theory as a methodological orientation, it also provides an essential guide for the design, execution and drafting of a praxiographic study.

Book Design Methodology and Relationships with Science

Download or read book Design Methodology and Relationships with Science written by Marc J de Vries and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many business corporations are faced with the challenge of bringing together quite different types of knowledge in design processes: knowledge of different disciplines in the natural and engineering sciences, knowledge of markets and market trends, knowledge of political and juridical affairs. This also means a challenge for design methodology as the academic discipline that studies design processes and methods. The aim of the NATO ARW of which this book is the report was to bring together colleagues from different academic fields to discuss this increasing multidisciplinarity in the relationship between design and sciences. This multidisciplinarity made the conference a special event. At a certain moment one of the participants exclaimed: "This is not a traditional design methodology conference!" Throughout the conference it was evident that there was a need to develop a common language and understanding to enable the exchange of different perspectives on design and its relationship with science. The contributions that have been included in this book show these different perspectives: the philosophical, the historical, the engineering perspective and the practical designer's experience.

Book How We Use the Media

Download or read book How We Use the Media written by Benjamin Krämer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-06 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume considers strategies, modalities, and styles of media use and reception. Dynamic changes in media technology and infrastructure have spurred important changes in media use. Looking at these developments within the common conceptual framework of reception strategies, modes and styles of media use and reception, this volume is highly relevant against the background of the changing media environment. When it comes to media use and reception, communication research has mainly dealt with two much-cited questions: What do the media do with the people? What do the people do with the media? In comparison, the discipline has devoted less attention to how the media are used, the modalities, patterns or configurations of the actual practices of media use. The volume features original contributions, both empirical and theoretical, on the key concepts and approaches in the field, covering old and new media and different types of media content. Offering a comprehensive overview of existing research as well as promoting original findings and insights, the volume will be of interest to communication researchers, students, and scholars.
