Book Practitioners Opinions on Academics Critics on the Balanced Scorecard

Download or read book Practitioners Opinions on Academics Critics on the Balanced Scorecard written by Diogo Santiago da Silva Pessanha and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article presents a survey on the critics to the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) implementation in private organizations and the opinion of Brazilian executives from three different enterprises about these critics. As for Kaplan and Norton (1997) proposal, some outlines were not followed by the interviewed companies, such as the broad communication of BSC to employees and the budget process integration (still prevailing) to the strategic planning. The analysis of the model's critiques led to the elaboration of 18 questions. This questionnaire is a useful management tool that can be applied by both practitioners and researchers to access and/or compare the BSC implementation in different organizations. The managers agreed with at least one third of these critics. For instance, interviewees agree that cause-and-effect linear relation tends to simplify reality. Also, financial measures are still more important than those non-financial. As the major explanation for the BSC implementation is exactly to reduce the emphasis on the assistance of financial measures, this issue will continue to be discussed.

This book was released on 2021-11-03 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Additionally, each chapter includes a list of key terms and concepts, discussion items, and highlights of lessons learned. At the end of the book, there is a section on leadership and motivation theories and models, as well as a section that provides leadership style surveys and assessments that can help readers identify their leadership style, while also becoming aware of what changes in leadership style can improve workplace climate.

Book Leadership Theories and Case Studies

Download or read book Leadership Theories and Case Studies written by Garry Wade McGiboney and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective leadership does not occur by chance. Leaders must be trained and groomed for the daunting responsibility of leading organizations. Research shows that half of the people currently in leadership positions will fail. Why they fail and what can be done to prevent failure are the main subjects of this book. It shows that effective leadership is possible and illustrates why and how, based on research and case studies from an epidemiological perspective. The epidemiological word “determinant” is used frequently, and is a word that no other book on leadership uses. Epidemiologists work from two basic principles: namely, that all diseases have determinants and that diseases do not occur randomly. In other words, there are always causes for diseases and patterns that describe how diseases spread. Effective and ineffective leadership always have determinants that are not randomly distributed; the impacts are uniformly and deeply spread throughout an organization. Like the epidemiologists, this book not only identifies leadership determinants, but also provides research-based “antidotes” at the end of each chapter, along with a summary of the most salient points in the chapter. This book offers examples of leadership and governance from the non-profit sector, businesses, public and private education, higher education, and other organizations, highlighting over 50 case studies to illustrate concepts about leadership.

Book The Concept and Use of the Balanced Scorecard in a Competitive Environment

Download or read book The Concept and Use of the Balanced Scorecard in a Competitive Environment written by Gerard H. Th Bruijl and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the introduction of the balanced scorecard (BSC), academics and professionals have criticized the practice of traditional measures, such as profits, ex-post costs, and return on investment as unsatisfactory for decision making in an organizational environment. Also, Martello, Watson, and Fischer (2016) denoted that strategic planning process has been advanced and applied successfully by many businesses, non-profit organizations, and governmental entities. However, the strategic process has been complicated by a rapidly changing environment, such as the impact of globalization, electronic commerce, workforce diversification, government regulations, learning organization, technological advancements, environmental factors, and stiffer competition. Arguably, depending only on current financial measures of performance does not reflect the position of present resource decisions for future financial enactment. Since the 1980s, academics and professionals like Johnson and Kaplan (1987), Cross and Lynch (1988), Dixon, Nanni, and Vollman (1990), and Rappaport (1999) have been working on literature recommending more non-financial measures for evaluating and managing organizations.
