Book Practical Petroleum Geochemistry for Exploration and Production

Download or read book Practical Petroleum Geochemistry for Exploration and Production written by Harry Dembicki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical Petroleum Geochemistry for Exploration and Production provides readers with a single reference that addresses the principle concepts and applications of petroleum geochemistry used in finding, evaluating, and producing petroleum deposits. Today, there are few reference books available on how petroleum geochemistry is applied in exploration and production written specifically for geologists, geophysicists, and petroleum engineers. This book fills that void and is based on training courses that the author has developed over his 37-year career in hydrocarbon exploration and production. Specific topical features include the origin of petroleum, deposition of source rock, hydrocarbon generation, and oil and gas migrations that lead to petroleum accumulations. Also included are descriptions on how these concepts are applied to source rock evaluation, oil-to-oil, and oil-to-source rock correlations, and ways of interpreting natural gas data in exploration work. Finally, a thorough description on the ways petroleum geochemistry can assist in development and production work, including reservoir continuity, production allocation, and EOR monitoring is presented. Authored by an expert in petroleum geochemistry, this book is the ideal reference for any geoscientist looking for exploration and production content based on extensive field-based research and expertise. Emphasizes the practical application of geochemistry in solving exploration and production problems Features more than 200 illustrations, tables, and diagrams to underscore key concepts Authored by an expert geochemist that has nearly 40 years of experience in field-based research, applications, and instruction Serves as a refresher reference for geochemistry specialists and non-specialists alike

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Oil Geology: The Application of Geology to Oil Field Problems In making a revision of the first edition the author wishes especially to thank Messrs. Johnson and Huntley of Pittsburgh, and Fred Pack on the United States Geological Survey, for their published criticisms of the first edition of "Practical Oil Geology." He also wishes to thank his many friends and fellow geologists and engineers, especially Mowry Bates and J. W. Lewis of Tulsa, for their suggestions. The industry is so extensive and the work of the geologist is so broad that the writer feels he has but touched on the many uses of geology in oil-field practice, but he hopes the book will prove useful. Certainly it has already more than fulfilled the writer's expectations for which he is deeply appreciative to the reading public. Book Oil Field Production Geology

Download or read book Oil Field Production Geology written by Mike Shepherd and published by AAPG. This book was released on 2009-09-20 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book was written for students, new professionals in oil companies, and for anyone with an interest in reservoir geology. It explains the background to production geology in the context of oil field subsurface operations. It also gives practical guidelines as to how a production geologist can analyze the reservoir geology and fluid flow characteristics of an oil field with the aim of improving hydrocarbon recovery. Advice is given on how to search for the remaining oil volumes in a producing field, where these pockets are typically found, and then how to plan wells to target these volumes."--Publisher's description.

Download or read book Popular Oil Geology written by Victor Ziegler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Popular Oil Geology The following pages represent an elaboration of a number of popular lectures in the geology of oil and gas. These were delivered during the past winter, in part at the Colorado School of Mines and in part in the City of Denver, under the auspices of the Colorado State Oil Commission. This little book is not intended to be a general treatise on the subject of oil and gas geology. It is not intended for the experienced oil geologist. It is written for the man without technical or scientific training in this branch of geology. Every attempt has been made to present in as simple language as possible the fundamental principles of oil geology, and to render these intelligible to the layman who may be interested in this subject from the practical standpoint, or for the sake of making investments, or perhaps only because of a desire to add to his general knowledge. Anyone who wishes to continue his studies in this subject is referred to the treatises mentioned below, or to the authors Principles of Oil Geology, which is now in preparation, and to which this little book is really an introduction. I have not hesitated to draw liberally on the literature of petroleum. Because of the nature of the book, and in the desire to keep it as free as possible from unnecessary material, I have purposely refrained from citations and acknowledgments in the text. I have used most freely the following works: Bacon and Hamor, "The American Petroleum Industry"; Johnson and Huntley, "Oil and Gas Production"; A. Beeby Thompson, "Oil Field Development"; Hager, "Practical Oil Geology"; and Cunningham Craig, "Oil Finding". Book Petroleum Formation and Occurrence

Download or read book Petroleum Formation and Occurrence written by B. Tissot and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of this book Petroleum Formation and Occurrence by Bernard Tissot and Dietrich Welte will indeed be welcomed by pertroleum geologists, petroleum geochemists, teachers and students in these fields, and all others who are interested in the origin and accumulation of hydrocarbons in nature. It is indeed a privilege for us to have the opportunity of sharing with these two eminent scientists the wealth of information they have acquired and developed during long careers devoted to concentrated scholarly study and practical investigation of the nature, origin, and occurrence of petroleum. Professor Bernard Tissot graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines in 1954 and from the Ecole Nationale Superieure du Petrole in 1955. In 1955 he received a D. E. S. in geology from the University of Grenoble and then began research work on petroleum geology at the Institut Fran~ais du Petrole. He was made head of the Department of Geochemistry in 1965, and since 1970 has also been teaching organic geochemistry at the Ecole Nationale Superieure du Petrole where he became Profes sor in 1973. Professor Tissot has had a broad and varied background of practical experience. He has been a member of exploration teams in France, New Caledonia, and Sahara. In 196G-1963 he headed a mission of the IFP to the Department of National Development of Australia.

Book Geology in Petroleum Production

Download or read book Geology in Petroleum Production written by A.J. Dikkers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1985-11-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical book for geologists involved in petroleum production, here is a comprehensive review of basic techniques in production geology, the links with related subjects, and the function of geologists in the planning and operation of all phases of oilfield development. The first part discusses the basic techniques used in the analysis and graphic representation of the stratigraphy, tectonic structure, reservoir sedimentology and hydrocarbon distribution of an oilfield. The second part describes how this knowledge is applied in the various phases of field development. The mutual support between production geology and neighbouring disciplines such as seismology, log interpretation, reservoir engineering is stressed. Throughout the book, the text is secondary to the illustrations; these are examples, mostly hypothetical, of conditions and techniques discussed, designed so as to bring out as clearly as possible the importance of the points made. It is thus an ideal book for graduate students, specializing in petroleum geology and for participants in post-graduate courses, in universities or within industry.
