Book Vacuum Methods in Electron Microscopy

Download or read book Vacuum Methods in Electron Microscopy written by Wilbur C. Bigelow and published by Ashgate Publishing. This book was released on 1994 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study provides full details and advice on the understanding and practical operation of the vacuum systems found in electron microscope laboratories. The importance of the correct functioning of these systems is too frequently underestimated, with the result that electron microscopes and other vacuum equipment, such as freeze-etching units and sputter coaters, give less than their optimum performance.

Book Principles of Electron Optics Volume 4

Download or read book Principles of Electron Optics Volume 4 written by Peter W. Hawkes and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 665 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Electron Optics: Second Edition, Advanced Wave Optics provides a self-contained, modern account of electron optical phenomena with the Dirac or Schrödinger equation as a starting point. Knowledge of this branch of the subject is essential to understanding electron propagation in electron microscopes, electron holography and coherence. Sections in this new release include, Electron Interactions in Thin Specimens, Digital Image Processing, Acquisition, Sampling and Coding, Enhancement, Linear Restoration, Nonlinear Restoration – the Phase Problem, Three-dimensional Reconstruction, Image Analysis, Instrument Control, Vortex Beams, The Quantum Electron Microscope, and much more. Includes authoritative coverage of many recent developments in wave electron optics Describes the interaction of electrons with solids and the information that can be obtained from electron-beam techniques Includes new content on multislice optics, 3D reconstruction, Wigner optics, vortex beams and the quantum electron microscope

Book Essential Ion Channel Methods

Download or read book Essential Ion Channel Methods written by P. Michael Conn and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of interest and research activity in ion channels is indicative of their fundamental importance in the maintenance of the living state. This volume was prepared with a view toward providing a sampling of the range of molecular and physical methods that are significant for the study of ion channels. As part of the Reliable Lab Solutions series, Essential Ion Channel Methods brings together chapters from volumes 293 and 294 of Methods in Enzymology. The chapters have been selected by the editor and updated, when possible, by their original authors to include new research and references. The result is a set of chapters which make use of graphics, comparisons to other methods, and provide tricks and approaches that make it possible to adapt methods to other systems. Methods are presented in a fashion that allows their replication by individuals new to the field, yet providing valuable information for seasoned investigators. Highlights top downloaded and cited chapters, authored by pioneers in the field and enhanced with graphics and easy to follow methods Loaded with detailed protocols developed and used by leaders in the field Refines, organizes and updates popular methods from one of our top selling series, Methods in Enzymology

Book Electron Microscopy at Molecular Dimensions

Download or read book Electron Microscopy at Molecular Dimensions written by W. Baumeister and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If, ten years ago, one had been asked to comment on the prospects of peering into the fmest details of biomolecular organization, most electron microscopists would, I suppose at least, have been quite en thusiastic. When, during the early seventies, several groups were success ful in visualizing single heavy atoms, which undoubtedly was a techni cal triumph, this prompted the most sanguine expectations among bi ologists. In the following years, however, it began to transpire that radiation damage might impose limitations preventing us from taking full advantage of these exciting instrumental feasibilities. Fortunately, the radiation damage nightmare did no paralyze further activities, and it was in particular the work on the purple membrane which, brilliant ly exploiting the redundancy stratagem, revealed exhilarating new perspectives. Now, almost five years later, it seemed timely and appro priate to organize an international symposium to discuss and weight recent activities and current trends in "molecular microscopy". In planning this symposium, we selected topics according to our view of what is important or will deserve more attention in the near future. Taking into consideration suggestions made by the invited participants, some supplementary aspects were included; as a conse quence, the program developed somewhat beyond the scope as adum brated by the original title of this meeting (Regular 2-D Arrays of Biomacromolecules: Structure Determination and Assembly). As the meeting was organized, we had three morning sessions aimed at reflecting the "State ofthe Art".
