Book A New Method of Learning the French Language Classic Reprint

Download or read book A New Method of Learning the French Language Classic Reprint written by Jean Gustave Keetels and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Method of Learning the French Language In Parts Second and Fourth, the practical predominates; in Parts Third and Fifth, the theoretical. They are so far independent of each other, that the several parts need not be studied in the order in which they stand. The arrangement, however, was suggested by a long course of experience, and adopted after mature delibera tion. The practical develops principles, elements, and facts, in natural succession, but without regard to scientific method; the theoretical embraces, in a connected view, and in systematic order, the cognate parts that have been studied separately. By this plan, the treatment of the verbs is presented to the mind, unembarrassed with other dimculties; the student, once familiar with their forms, may enter upon a course of reading-lessons, which adds variety to the exercises, and increases his interest in the study of the language. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical French Course in Fifty Lessons: An Entirely New Method Originally written for those students who wish to master French rapidly, either for pleasure, or business, the present grammar is now used with great success in colleges and schools, also by the best private teachers, here and abroad. The ever-increasing popularity of this book, which has already reached the third edition, is the most convincing proof of its practical value. In the two preliminary lessons of this grammar the pupil is taught: First, how to pronounce, read and write French; second, how to distinguish, by a very simple rule, the gender of French nouns, and to form the plural of the same; third, how to acquire an extensive French vocabulary by mere observation. In the subsequent practical lessons the student is led, gradually and logically, through the intricacies of the lan guage, from those conventional phrases in current daily use, to the fluent form of conversation and the mastery of idiomatic French. Download or read book A Reading French Grammar written by Edward H. Magill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Reading French Grammar: A Short Method of Learning to Read the French Language No exercises in writing French are given in this grammar, for the Simple reason that it seems to the author best that a student Should, by reading, first learn how others write French before attempting to do it for himself. The time often spent in turning good English into poor French is believed to be worse than wasted, and prevents the rapid acquisition of a reading knowledge of the language. Written exercises in French are of great value and really indispensable, but they properly come later, after acquiring a considerable familiarity with the printed page. And these exercises need not be printed in a separate volume, but may be best taken from the French readers used, the student being trained in turning back into French what he has first translated into English. He thus writes with a correct model of construction constantly before him. This is of far more value than the labori ous construction of doubtful sentences by the aid of grammar and dictionary. All reference to pronunciation is omitted in this volume, simply because instruction upon this subject, to be of any practical value, must come from the lips of the living teacher, who should be either a native of France or one who has had much personal intercourse with educated French people. This knowledge cannot be imparted satisfactorily by any printed page. This little work, after many years of experience in teaching French, has been thoroughly tested by the practical work of the class-room, and it is earnestly commended to my fellow-teachers, in the hope that they may find it a practical and easy key to the delightful treasures of French literature. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Practical System for Teaching and Learning the French Pronunciation, in Seven Lessons: Illustrated and Supported by Numerous Examples From the Best French Poets To acquire the pronunciation of the French language, is the business of a few days only, provided that it is properly taught in the beginning. Yet, easy as it may be, it is necessary to have a method. There are different ways of travelling, but some of them are more speedy, and cost less trouble, or time, and are safer than others; so it is with learning. To gather and present the general principles of an art, or a science, in the smallest possible space, that the learner may get hold of them as if it were at first sight, without being perplexed or embarrassed by unintelligible or useless rules and exceptions, must necessarily be the easiest, as well as the surest way of im parting and acquiring speedily every kind of practical knowledge. Such has been the object in view in the composition and arrange ment of this small work. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
