Download or read book Practical Geometry Part Two written by Kwang S. Ko and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study guide written primarily for middle and high schoolers in order for them to learn relevant math concepts at their level. There is an introduction before each chapter that describes what will be covered. Chapter 7 discusses similarity, which explains the ratio between two numbers, discern proportions and their properties, identifies the properties of similar polygons, and proves that two triangles can be similar with different postulates and theorems, as well as learning how to identify dilations and its properties. Chapter 8 covers right triangles, which demonstrates how to solve problems involving similar triangles formed by the altitude that is perpendicular to the hypotenuse, finding the lengths of the sides of a triangle with the Pythagorean Theorem, using side lengths to classify triangles and angles measures and finding their length in special right triangles, and to find the magnitude and direction of a vector. Chapter 9 deals with circles that discuss segments and lines related to circles, use properties of tangents, arcs, and chords of a circle as well as the properties of inscribed angles and inscribed polygons of a circle, and finding and graphing the equation of a circle. Chapter 10 teaches areas of polygons and circles, which can describe the angle measures of polygons, the areas of regular polygons as well as the perimeters and areas of similar figures, the circumference and arc length of circles, and the areas of circles and their sectors. Each concept has a step-by-step explanation on how to approach the problems. Afterwards, there is a self- test that assesses the knowledge of the student, and at the end of the book, there is a review test that examines the student's knowledge of all the previous chapters.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Sunday, PhD
  • Publisher : Independently Published
  • Release : 2021-05-16

Download or read book Practical Geometry Algorithms written by Daniel Sunday, PhD and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-05-16 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents practical geometry algorithms with computationally fast C++ code implementations. It covers algorithms for fundamental geometric objects, such as points, lines, rays, segments, triangles, polygons, and planes. These algorithms determine the basic 2D and 3D properties, such as area, distance, inclusion, and intersections. There are also algorithms to compute bounding containers for these objects, including a fast bounding ball, various convex hull algorithms, as well as polygon extreme points and tangents. And there is a fast algorithm for polyline simplification using decimation that works in any dimension. These algorithms have been used in practice for several decades. They are robust, easy to understand, code, and maintain. And they execute very rapidly in practice, not just in theory. For example, the winding number point in polygon inclusion test, first developed by the author in 2000, is the fastest inclusion algorithm known, and works correctly even for non-simple polygons. Also, there is also a fast implementation of the Melkman algorithm for the convex hull of a simple polyline. And much more. If your programming involves geometry, this will be an invaluable reference.

Book excerpt: The purpose of the project is to provide the most up-to-date survey on issues dealing with practical geometry and how it might have been applied in the design of medieval architecture. Chronologically, the topics cover a wide span - from early Medieval through Late Gothic. Geographically, the monuments under discussion range from Early Medieval Florence through Carolingian Germany, Crusader Cyprus, Romanesque France and Gothic England. The applications of both geometry and metrology are considered in this volume, often with illustrations generated by computer-assisted design (CAD) software. The project therefore offers recent scholarship in the field, as well as cutting-edge technology which helps propel the pursuit of such studies. To this end, the project is the first of its kind both in terms of its focus and its comprehensiveness. Such a project is sorely needed to introduce this highly specialized discipline to other historians of art, history, and science of the Middle Ages, as well as historians in most humanistic areas.

Book The Engineering of Medieval Cathedrals

Download or read book The Engineering of Medieval Cathedrals written by Lynn T. Courtenay and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great cathedrals and churches of the medieval West continue to awe. How were they built, and why do they remain standing? What did their builders know about what they were doing? These questions have given rise to considerable controversy, which is fully reflected in the papers selected here. The first section of the book is concerned with the medieval builders and their design methods; the second focuses on engineering issues in the context of the infamous collapse of the choir at Beauvais in 1284. The following papers extend the analysis into the 15th century, looking for example at Brunelleschi’s dome for Florence Cathedral, and deal with the often neglected structures of roofs, towers and spires.
