Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dry-Fly Fishing Those who have been fishing the floating fly for many years may be surprised to learn how much misconception exists regarding their favourite method. It is still looked upon in many quarters as something mysterious, something demanding superlative skill and even erudition, something applicable only to certain waters whereas the fact is that it is as simple as it is deadly, and more generally useful than any other. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of Dry Fly Fishing and Salmon Fly Fishing This consists, in the first place, in the life-history of the salmon, from the time it is deposited as ova by the parent fish in the redd until it attains its full grown state. I have ventured, when dealing with this interesting matter, to introduce some original theories as regards those questions which are still a subject of controversy. In the second place, I have dealt with the different methods of casting, and by plates and diagrams have endeavoured to show the various casts for presenting the lure to the salmon, and explained the methods to be adopted when actually fishing. Book The Dry Fly and Fast Water

Download or read book The Dry Fly and Fast Water written by George Michel Lucien La Branche and published by Greycliff Publishing Company. This book was released on 1998 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time ever in the world of fly fishing, a classic work has been updated into a fully illustrated, modern format. This new volume of The Dry Fly and Fast Water The Dry Fly and Fast Water established George La Branche conservationist, angler, naturalist as a man ahead of his time. In this landmark work his instructions on reading the water and presentation (explaining such techniques as the bounce cast, line control, and 'creating a hatch'), and his descriptions of rise forms and how to read them are all as fresh today as they were more than eighty years ago. In fact, his discussion of fishing a dry fly on fast water heresy when he wrote it has not been improved upon in the modern literature. Any angler who reads this book whether rank novice or seasoned expert and applies La Branche's wisdom will catch more fish on the dry fly.

Halford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Development of the Dry Fly, the New Dry Fly Patterns, the Manipulation of Dressing Them and Practical Experiences of Their Use His persistent and logical advocacy of this theory impressed me very much, and impelled me to try and design a number of flies for use on the south country and other chalk streams which would carry out in detail his well-conceived ideas. He was one Who never spared himself whether in business or in sport, and being naturally a delicate man, his health unfortunately gave way under the strain, and on the zlst of March 1904 he passed away, to the intense grief of a large circle of sympathising friends. It should be recognised by one and all that any improvement in the sport of the dry-fly man effected by the use of these new patterns is primarily due to him as the originator of the idea, and I therefore think that the portrait of the late Edgar Williamson is the most appropriate frontispiece for this volume. Book excerpt: Merging a poetic reverence for the art of fly fishing with a wealth of practical information and technical advice, Vincent Marinaro's, A Modern Dry-Fly Code is the classic guide to dry-fly fishing. Originally written in 1950 as the sport was languishing for lack of innovation, this book helped bring about a fly-fishing renaissance on riverbanks across America. An ideal book for readers who share Marinaro's deep reverence for the fisherman's connection to the unspoiled natural world, A Modern Dry-Fly Code will have you yearning for the sound of running brook water, eager to try some of the author's legendary fly patterns, casting techniques, and scouting tips. The product of a lifetime of experience wading in the waters of the Letort, Big Spring, and other south Pennsylvania streams, A Modern Dry-Fly Code significantly changed the way American anglers think about dry-fly fishing. In addition to detailed information on matching hatches, trout behavior and biology, and where and when to cast which types of flies, Marinaro introduces several ideas of his own invention based on the results of his many experimental outings. Among the revolutionary ideas set forth in this book are Marinaro's 'minutiae', miniscule flies designed to imitate the dozens of tiny insects that swarm over the surface of the water as well as his thorax-style technique for crafting superb dry-flies.For beginners and expert fishermen alike, there is much wisdom to be gleaned from Marinaro's inventive and curious inquiry into the nature and practice of fly-fishing.
