Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Canoeing, Sailing and Motor Boating: Practical Boat Building and Handling With most men whose homes are beside salt water, river or lake, the desire to get a oat and navigate their own craft is ineradicable. Begin ning with the boyhood batteau, we grow to the youth '3 catboat or dory, and then to manhood 's yacht or motor boat. The sea-faring blood seems well distributed throughout the country, as wit ness the army of inland bluejackets trained at the Great Lakes and other stations far from our sea coasts. Once a sailorman, always a sailorman, - even if the craft is of the most modest pretensions. And we do not outgrow our old loves. At forty we get as much fun out of the tiny canoe as from the expensive power cruiser, and to those of us whose purse (and we are many) does not permit anything resembling a fancy yacht, the craving to venture forth on the waters is well satisfied by a cruising canoe, a small sailboat, or a twenty-foot power boat, home-built, perhaps from knockdown frames. Book Practical Boat Building for Amateurs

Download or read book Practical Boat Building for Amateurs written by Adrian Neison and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2015-03-13 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The skill necessary to build a boat of some form which will be serviceable and pleasurable is possessed by few amateurs, and as boats and canoes are now so extensively used in athletic and other amusements, and the followers of the rod and gun find them almost indispensable in certain varieties of these pursuits, no doubt very many amateurs would like a little information which would assist them to construct such things. The reason, perhaps, why amateurs do not more often try their skill on boat-building is because there are technical difficulties which seem to throw a barrier in the way of all who do not care, or have not the time, to spend on a thorough study of the subject. Such an idea is a mistake, for boat-building is well worth the amateur's attention; for it is really a simple craft, not requiring nearly so much skill and technical knowledge as good joiner’s work. For instance, anyone who can make a box or a table would he able to make an ordinary punt. This book explains and shows how to build smaller wooden boats.
