Book Between Mobility and Migration

Download or read book Between Mobility and Migration written by Peter Scholten and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book offers a critical perspective on intra-European mobility and migration by using new empirical data and theoretical discussions. It develops a theoretical and empirical analysis of the consequences of intra-European movement for sending and receiving urban regions in The Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Turkey, Poland and Czech Republic. The book conceptualizes Central and Eastern European (CEE) migration by distinguishing between different types of CEE migrants and consequences. This involves a mapping of migration corridors within Europe, a unique empirical analysis of consequences for urban regions, and an analysis of governance responses. Next to the European and country perspectives on this phenomenon, the book focuses on the local perspective of urban regions where most mobile citizens settle (either permanently or temporarily). This way the book puts the analysis of intra-European movement in the perspective of broader theoretical debates in migration studies and beyond.

Book Tourism Studies The Emergence of a New Systemic Approach Examples from the United States and Europe

Download or read book Tourism Studies The Emergence of a New Systemic Approach Examples from the United States and Europe written by Piero Innocenti and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of introducing this handbook derives from the realization that tourism is often the object of a single-issue analysis, lacking an organic vision. The fact that this complex phenomenon manifests itself in space meant in concrete terms and presents economic-territorial implications of varied nature privileges those who inquire it mainly from a territorial point of view, like economic geographers. The approach followed, while enhancing the three most important 'moments' in which tourism occurs, i.e. the outgoing, the movement and the incoming, is applicable both on a regional, or even local level, and on a general scale, thus allowing to make those abstractions than many scholars believe to be fundamental to the definition of their discipline as a real science.

Book Growth and Change in Post socialist Cities of Central Europe

Download or read book Growth and Change in Post socialist Cities of Central Europe written by Waldemar Cudny and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-12-29 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents multidimensional socio-economic transformations taking place in the post-socialist cities located in selected countries of the Central European region. The analysis includes case studies from the Eastern part of Germany (Chemnitz, Leipzig), Poland (Łódź, Kielce, Katowice conurbation, and peripheral urban centres from Eastern Poland), Slovakia (Bratislava, Nitra), the Czech Republic (Olomouc, Brno), and from Hungary (Pécs). The analysed urban areas have undergone far-reaching political and socio-economic changes in the last 30 years. These changes began with the collapse of communism and the centrally planned economy system in the region of Central Europe. The beginning of this period, often referred to as post-socialist transformation, dates back to 1989. The consequence of the aforementioned political processes was the multifaceted socio-economic and demographic changes that significantly affected urban areas in Central Europe. This book presents an attempt to summarize the main long-term processes of changes taking place in these urban areas and to identify contemporary and future trends in their socio-economic development. The book will be valuable to undergraduate and postgraduate students in human geography, urban studies, economy, and city marketing, especially with an interest in Central Europe.
