During this five-day stay here, the lives of thousands were changed. Seeds of devotion to the Lord were planted, many of which have now fructified. Now almost two decades after his departure from this mortal world, many are beginning to realise the significance of his visit and how great a personality he is. Prabhupada’s greatness lies not only in his personal presence but is seen more in his gifts to the world— his movement, books, temples and festivals. As the ambassador of Lord Sri Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he always puts Krsna first. He preached the eternal message of the Absolute Truth ‘as it is’ and ignited the flame of devotion to Krsna in the hearts of millions. In his absence the mission he started continues to grow rapidly. While others are busy building houses for themselves, Prabhupada truly build A House For The Whole World To Live in.

Book Proselytizing and the Limits of Religious Pluralism in Contemporary Asia

Download or read book Proselytizing and the Limits of Religious Pluralism in Contemporary Asia written by Juliana Finucane and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-21 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together a range of critical studies that explore diverse ways in which processes of globalization pose new challenges and offer new opportunities for religious groups to propagate their beliefs in contemporary Asian contexts. Proselytizing tests the limits of religious pluralism, as it is a practice that exists on the border of tolerance and intolerance. The practice of proselytizing presupposes not only that people are freely-choosing agents and that religion itself is an issue of individual preference. At the same time, however, it also raises fraught questions about belonging to particular communities and heightens the moral stakes in involved in such choices. In many contemporary Asian societies, questions about the limits of acceptable proselytic behavior have taken on added urgency in the current era of globalization. Recognizing this, the studies brought together here serve to develop our understandings of current developments as it critically explores the complex ways in which contemporary contexts of religious pluralism in Asia both enable, and are threatened by, projects of proselytization.

Book The Founder of the Hare Krishnas as Seen by Devotees

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hare Krishna movement is one of the most well-known new religious movements in the Western societies. It was founded in New York in 1966 by the Indian monk A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda (1896-1977). The fact that it emerged during the heyday of the countercultural protests is often invoked in the explanations of its success. This book offers a completely new account for the rise and growth of the Hare Krishna movement by analysing it from the viewpoint of cognitive science of religion. It focuses on the charisma of the founder-guru through the writings of his earliest disciples and also takes a close look at the theology and ritual practices of the movement.

This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The word dharma, originally from the Sanskrit, refers to the inherent, unchanging nature of something – sugar’s dharma is to be sweet, water’s dharma is to be wet, and fire’s dharma is to emit heat and light. Dharma also refers to our natural duty. We humans have ordinary dharma and an ultimate dharma that relates to who we are at soul level. That dharma requires that we ask existential questions and then seek ultimate answers – questions such as Who am I? Why am I here? and What is my ultimate purpose? Dharma, the Way of Transcendence is a compilation of lectures on human dharma given by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1972 as he toured India. Here he teaches that the dharma of all humans and every other living embodied soul – is service. No one can exist for a moment without serving someone or something else, even if it’s only the mind and senses. So the question is, whom or what can we serve if we want to be truest to ourselves?

Book On Speaking Strongly in Srila Prabhupada s Service

Download or read book On Speaking Strongly in Srila Prabhupada s Service written by Vikas Swami Bhakti and published by . This book was released on 2012-07-11 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Speaking Strongly in Srila Prabhupada s Service was written for the perusal of all members of Srila Prabhupada s ISKCON, especially for devotees who feel impelled to follow Srila Prabhupada s example of preaching Krsna s message in a strong, clear, provocative manner. Speaking Strongly is particularly for those who maintain Srila Prabhupada s vision of ISKCON as a revolutionary movement with a mission to change society, to rouse people to think about life s important questions, and to get them to embrace the only permanent solution to life s problems: Krishna consciousness. In Speaking Strongly, Bhakti Vikasa Swami submits hundreds of quotes wherein Srila Prabhupada indicates that his followers should speak strongly for the benefit of the world and not shy away from embracing the uncompromising, realistic style of sastra, which presents not vague notions such as spreading-love, but solutions to the undeniable problems of material existence, and is especially relevant to the disastrous condition of human society today. Taking a holistic and practical approach, Bhakti Vikasa Swami carefully examines the pros and cons of speaking strongly under various circumstances.. Drawing on almost fourty years of personal experience, the author discusses issues such as: - Who is qualified to speak strongly? - When should strong speech be used? - Is the strong preacher a fanatic? - Is strong speaking contrary to humility? - When and how should tact be employed? The ultimate merit of On Speaking Strongly in Srila Prabhupada s Service is that it reminds the reader of what ISKCON is supposed to be a distinct, vital spiritual movement and offers a philosophical basis from which to help restore ISKCON to its original glory."

Book New Religious Movements in Modern Asian History

Download or read book New Religious Movements in Modern Asian History written by David W. Kim and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides evidence that the emergence of Asian new religious movements (NRMs) was predominantly the result of anti-colonial ideology from local religious groups or individuals. The contributors argue that when traditional religions were powerless to maintain their cultural heritage, the leadership of NRMs adduced alternative principles, and the new teachings of each NRM attracted the local people enough for them to change their beliefs. The contributors argue that, as a whole, the Asian new religious movements overall were very ardent and progressive in transmitting their new ideologies. The varied viewpoints in this volume attest to the consistent development of Asian NRMs from domestic and international dimensions by replacing old, traditional religions.

Book Srila Prabhupada lilamrta volume 1

Download or read book Srila Prabhupada lilamrta volume 1 written by Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami and published by The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. This book was released on with total page 1279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Srila Prabhupada-lilamrta tells the story of a remarkable individual and a remarkable achievement. The individual is A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada: philosopher, scholar, religious leader, saint. The achievement is the revolutionary transplantation of a timeless spiritual culture from ancient India to twentieth-century America. This first of two volumes begins with the story of the events leading up to Srila Prabhupada's meeting his guru, an encounter that ignited in Srila Prabhupada a slowburning flame of desire to take Krishna consciousness to the Western world. His early life was a period of patient and transcendent determination as he prepared for a mission that would later be crowned with astounding success. In August and September of 1965 Srila Prabhupada traveled alone aboard a steamship from India to New York City, with no more than the equivalent of eight dollars in his pocket and no institutional backing, but with unshakable faith in Lord Krishna and the instructions of his spiritual master. It is the 1960s, an era in which the children of those who fought World War II were leading a sweeping revolt against a society losing its soul to godless mass consumerism. Into this milieu Srila Prabhupada brought a vision for a new kind of society, a society born of a radical transformation of human consciousness from materialism to the loftiest spiritual and ethical idealism. By 1967 he had arrived in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, America's counter-culture capital, where he continued his work of calling America's youth to live up to their higher spiritual ideals and distributing the holy name of Krishna indiscriminately. By the end of the volume, we have seen Srila Prabhupada in England (meeting the Beatles), Holland, Japan, Africa, and finally back in India, where he triumphantly returned with his "dancing white elephants" – a group of his mostly Caucasian Western followers. The research team assembled by the author traveled throughout the world to gather thousands of hours of interviews with hundreds of people who knew Srila Prabhupada; diaries and memoirs from his students; and more than seven thousand of Srila Prabhupada's letters. Then the author and his team distilled this voluminous firsthand source material into a rich composite view of Srila Prabhupada, a dazzling and colorful picture of one of the most remarkable lives of our times.

This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renunciation Through Wisdom is a collection of essays originally written in Bengali and published by Srila Prabhupada in India during the 1940s. They were later translated into English by his disciples. In these essays Srila Prabhupada expands on themes found in the Bhagavad-gita, discussing such topics as why people are averse to God, the ultimate causes of suffering, and how the world’s troubles are extraordinarily fleeting when seen from the standpoint of eternity. Students of Srila Prabhupada will recognize the same common-sense writing style in Renunciation Through Wisdom as in his later, well-known works such as Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita As It Is, as well as his expertise at distilling the essence of India's ancient Vedic wisdom into powerful, convincing, practical, and easily readable directives.
